@Jaredan - Lunari Genocide and The Moonstone: A Question
Everyone here knows the Lunari were wiped out by the Solari some time ago. The exact time isn't mentioned anywhere in any knowledge base that we have, and Leona's entrance into the world, and Diana's were far enough back that they still reflect much of the old lore, along with Nami to some degree. But with Nami's lore comes a very interesting question when you consider the situation.
Nami's lore establishes that the Moonstone needs to be replaced every 100 years, and requires the trade of an Abyssal Pearl, which she snagged like a total fishy badass. However, as most of us know, when she arrived in the cove to make the trade, there was no one to greet her, which had never happened before according to legend.
This presents a weird continuity problem to some degree, possibly.
If the Lunari are indeed the people responsible for the Moonstones, the event that killed them off, the Genocide, would have had to have happened within the last 100 years. That means that, historically speaking, it would have had to have happened very, very recently. For example, the Titanic sank in 1912. That's over 100 years ago, and yet we have pretty solid records of that event. Now, it's possible that the world of Runeterra doesn't have news that travels that fast, but since it's a world brimming with magic, and has the capability for a newspaper to bring news to various corners of the world (even if it isn't the JoJ, the universe has evidence to support a publication like it could still feasibly exist), and people who travel and know tales of such things (lorekeepers, bards, storytellers aplenty), it seems completely impossible that the Solari could cover up the genocide of an entire religious sect that should have feasibly existed for ages before then.
Now, we only know the story from Diana's point of view, and it seems reasonable that the Solari, at least within their own group, could feasibly forbid the discussion of the topic of heresy and cover up the genocide pretty heavily. That seems to be the case with Diana. But, that would also suggest that the rest of Runeterra, who would probably know there was, at one time, two sects worshiping heavenly bodies on Targon, and not just one, would know that some really messed up stuff happened there.
We know that Demacia and Noxus have both had Rakkor soldiers fight in their battles as mercenaries of sorts, assuming that hasn't been changed with the lore changes. So, it's also likely that both Demacia and Noxus know about the Solari killing off the Lunari. That said, it seems highly unlikely that Demacia would be totally comfortable working with people who actively committed genocide against another group of people without "significant justification". I mean, didn't they also protest Noxus going into the Freljord and trying to "Pacify" the Barbarians up there, as well as the Ionian Conflict, which we still know is a thing in New Lore? Assuming that's still a thing that happened, that poses a fairly awkward problem.
So, this leads to some awkward lore situations.
Either people forget amazingly tragic events and the slaughter of an entire group of people by a sect that's supposedly pacifistic in less than 100 years, the Solari are eerily good at covering up their own crimes of genocide to the point that the rest of the world didn't realize an entire religious group suddenly disappearing, or the Lunari are not at all responsible for the creation of Nami's Moonstone.
Either that, or there are some plotholes(?) in the story so far that could use a bit of patching.
Any comment on this, Jaredan? I'd love to hear what you have to say, even if you can't say too much.
...this guy.
