Splash art

Can we get the splash artist and the design team to agree on the colors they're using for a champion??

Kindred looks really cool... Except that in the Splash, Wolf's a shadow. In game, he's a bright eggplant. This isn't the only example, but it's the most recent and it just annoys me that they're always so misleading with the splash art.

Since y'all can't seem to see how much of an issue this is: Ekko Is also purple-skinned in game. King of Clubs Mordekaiser has a flat grey helmet, where it's gold in the splash because of the faulty lighting. Night Hunter Rengar looks nothing like the splash EXCEPT for the colors. Renekton was black in his splash and bright green in-game for the longest time.

Need I continue?

I understand that in the splash, they're in a dark forest. Maybe the artist shouldn't pick a setting other than Summoner's Rift for a champion to be standing in, if it's going to make their color something besides what it is in-game.

...maybe the art direction changed from the time they commisioned the artwork and the time that Kindred were released to the PBE? Maybe?

It wouldn't be too hard for them to lower the shade of Purple for the model before the release.

Wolf is already pretty dark; if he gets darker, he starts to lose contrast. He IS black, that's just not how he's colored. It's like how Superman's hair is highlighted blue: http://media.dcentertainment.com/sites/default/files/character_bio_576_superman_0.jpg we know that his hair is black, but that's not the color that depicts him the best.

But.. He's not.

He's purple.

Nocturne Veigar Zed Are black.

Veigar is INCONTROVERTIBLY purple. Nocturne can get away with being solid black because he has the blades to add more substance, and because he doesn't have a texture on his body; Wolf has a smoke and fur texture, which requires shades. Zed's shadow, the greyscale effect, is probably what you're looking for, but it only works for Zed because it's a copy of Zed; without the visual reference it looks washed out and dull. Wolf needs a secondary shade to have a visual presence, and with lamb's periwinkle theme going on, plum is the best color for him.

You're saying Nocturne works because of his blades...

Yet wolf not only has the mask, he also has a PERSON with him.

It's not difficult to make him greyscale or even a darker shade of purple. The fact is, the Splash artist needs to stop making the champions look different colors than they actually are.

Is the person ON Wolf? Nocturne doesn't need to have any textures on the black part; Wolf does. In order for his wolf textures to read, he needs a secondary color, and they picked purple to match Lamb. It's as simple as that. Is this really something that matters THAT MUCH to you?

If you're going to outright lie about the colors, you might as well not comment.

Both colors can be darker, like in the splash.

The issue here is that the splash artist never gets the colors correct for champions or skins, because there is no instance in any part of the game where the champion is in darkness harsh enough to match the splash.

...how am I lying about the colors? The only thing I've said about a particular color is that Veigar is purple. And Veigar is DEFINITELY purple.

Veigar is and has always been blue.

Let's say indigo and call it a day. Ultimately, I think that your request is odd because the purpose of splash arts is not to depict the in-game look; if it was, it'd just be a screenshot. The point of the splash art is to show off the champion and to tell a story about them; the artist felt that the background that conveyed Kindred's feel the best was a dark and shadowy forest, and they colored Kindred to match that aesthetic.

Also, if Wolf is dark to you, you need to turn up your contrast. He's brighter than Jax's cloak.
