It is confirmed Shadow Isles is cursed for a millennium

Phreak confirms it in Yorick Spotlight. It means Fall of Shurima and Shadow Isles are pretty close. Both of them ended because of one man.

Probably around a millennia or so; the exact dates and timings are likely long lost to time. As for Shurima, multiple sources indicate Shurima fell several thousand years ago as opposed to exactly a thousand years ago. An excerpt from Azir's lore:

Azir saw none of this. For him, all was nothingness. His last memories were of pain and fire; he knew nothing of what befell him atop the temple, nor what became of his empire. He remained lost in timeless oblivion until,** thousands of years after Shurima’s doom**, the blood of his last descendant spilled onto the temple ruins and resurrected him. Azir was reborn, but was yet incomplete; his body little more than animate dust given form, held together by the last vestiges of his indomitable will.

Though all in all I'ma wait until the lores for Yorick, Maokai and Elise come out so that some more concrete timing details can come to light, if they were written in there.

On the Shurima/Shadow Isles comparison though, both had a pool of magical healing waters that was central to how that area of the world operated. That seems very odd.

On the Shurima/Shadow Isles comparison though, both had a pool of magical healing waters that was central to how that area of the world operated. That seems very odd.

But Xerath is prisoned for a millennium as far as I know. I don't where did I read it though. Why do I remember it as 1000 years? Interesting.

Shurima and Shadow Isles have some similiarities. Both are fallen, both are destroyed by one man, both men have immense powers now (I suppose Ruined King is formidable now because in Q&A it is said Yorick is searching for being stronger to defeat Ruined King), Both had holy water pools.

I think you remember because he had a line as the Ascension game mode Ascended where he's like "I've waited a millennium for this", while also referencing centuries. This was added in the initial Shurima lore stuff though so they might have set the dates back a tad to allow for more room in between Shurima's fall and the rise of more modern nations.

Yeah the comparisons are pretty strong in areas, though there are pretty distinct differences too, like being an island chain with a religious order as its primary inhabitants and being a huge sprawling empire in a desert. It's cool none the less and now you've got me thinking about our Ascended champs with Shadow isles esque skins. WANT. NEED.

On a tangential note that life giving waters thing is making me think of Nagakabouros, and when I think of her I go WAY off the deep end with speculation. Fasmodey I may need you to send submarines to save me because of how deep my theorising may go.

Yeah, lore is changing a lot. In the beginning, Ruined King made ritual to saw his wife, but in developed lore they say he put his wife to holy water and her body causes a huge corruption that also ends with terrible catastrophe.

It is alternatively would be good to have corrupted Ascended champions, but not sure if they could corrupted or not lore wise. What do you think? I believe an high tier Ascended would be stronger than Mordekaiser, like Renekton and Nasus. So, if Mordekaiser can control Black Mist, can Nasus do too?

On the Ascended point, I think it's entirely dependent on what happens to an Ascended's soul during that process. Power wise I can certainly see the Ascended being able to best most of the denizens of the Shadow Isles, but they are living beings and as such the Mist is basically poison to them. I'm not sure if the Ascended powers would even carry over if they became one with the mist, though it might help them retain a degree of individuality.

Except Xerath then, because he is technically not a living being anymore. He is actually even more dead compare to an undead. He doesn't have any organic particle.

This is how the Ruination happened: 1- The Ruined King put his wife's dead body into the holy waters. 2- Her soul came back, but her body was still rotting; the holy waters became polluted. 3- She asked him to put an end to her sufferings and the Ruined King, unable to separate from her, conjured a spell to bind them together for eternity. 4- The cursed artifacts amplified the power of the spell beyond his control and the holy waters turned into Black Mist. 5- The Black Mist rose and swallowed the Blessed Isles, binding every living being to death and trapping their souls inside itself.

Hmmm, haven't thought about this one.

The big difference between the two is that one of them could/can actually revive (Sivir and the Oasis of Life) while the other caused necromatic chaos over a bunch of isles, if I got it right, I guess.

Sivir was not dead, she was deadly wounded but alive.
