The new lore of Taric (what we know so far)

Taric is a Demancian soldier whom was tasked to do something (we dont know what it is yet) but failed to do so and it more then likely got many of his fellow knights killed. Completely guilt ridden he leaves his country and somewhere along his travels he hears about the legends of mount Targon (we don't know how he found out about Targon, could of been during his time as a soldier or after) and sets out to Mount Targon in belief that completing the legendary climb will rid him of his crimes/sins and that he will earn redemption. During his climb we see him haunted by ghosts of the past (we don't know if these are simply thoughts or mount Targon actually summoning spirits) in the middle of his climb he meets a mysterious man with a axe who is slowly freezing to death (I believe this is the spirit of the mountain itself) The man mocks Taric saying he will never find redemption here and he should do what all Demancians do, run away. (at this point im positive this man is the spirit of the mountain itself for how else would he know that Taric is Demancian) Taric instead of striking the man in anger removes his cloths (simmiliar to what Sejuani did to earn her right to rule) Gives them to the man so he can have warmth, and continues his climb. At the end of the comic we see his hands glowing purple along with the mountain glowing.

Theories A-Taric completed his climb and just like Pantheon was able to instantly descend down in a goddly form B-The man really was the spirit of the mountain and believed Taric allready passed the test and gave him super powers even though he didn't complete the climb yet C-Taric hasn't finished his climb yet but the determination in his heart is recognized by the mountain which causes the mountain to glow as if welcoming him, encouraging him to climb Further.

Things that need speculation 1-What was the importance of Tarics rings? 2-Who was that viking dude? 3-Did Taric finish his journey, or did he believe climbing the mountain was pointless and chose to leave?

I'll take a stab at it

  1. The Rings were most likely a reminder of his oaths to protect those around him and how he broke them. Losing his gem equipment seems like a symbolic view of him accepting his failures, and pushing forward, ensuring he'll never make the same mistakes again and not looking back.

  2. Most likely a representation of the Targon Celestials. He seemed to know alot about Demacians, figuring them to be cowards who run when all hope looks lost.

  3. By the looks of things, Taric couldn't afford to go back. He has no other choice, abandoning everything he used to carry with him along the way. Chances are he most likely completed his journey and was accepted by the Targonians.

I'd say the Gems were probably a conduit for the power he had at the time. Considering how his Lore is getting reworked, it's best to guess that he was a Demacian with magical prowess, but much like in his old lore, used it for protection of those around him. So and so my guesses are he was forced to use his magic for an offensive purpose: Maybe he used it on himself, or the people around him, or forced, breaking his oaths. We find him now at Targon, probably finding a way to become better than he was and ensuring he'll never break an oath ever again.

my own theory.

taric did something that lead to the death of his unit, or something cowardly. for example he fled the frontlines and left his men behind to die. something considered high treason in the demacian military. or he just blames himself for something he had no control over like being the lone survivor of a battle and failing to protect his men.

maybe its a legend in rueterra, that you can find redemption by making the climb to the top of the mountain.

the guy he finds up there is a noxian whos up there for the same reason as him. to find redemption. but he has given up. taric takes his axe and moves on.

the ghosts are either from the men he betrayed/thinks he betrayed, or by people who previously attempted the climb and failed. they did say, that theyre also oathbreakers.

im curious where this leaves his relation with demacia after the climb. i guess it depends on wether hes actually guilty of something, or if the crown accepts him making the climb as a sign of redemption.

The ring is perhaps a symbol of his oath, the one he broke that caused something catastrophic to happen. I don't think it held anything more than sentimental value for Taric.

The Viking dude, who I would say had the appearance of either a Freljordan or a Noxian, was part of the mountain's test, like Leona and Diana with their tests. By showing compassion, bravery, and drive, I think Taric was accepted.

Taric is very close to the top in the last part, I think he was already ascended/beginning to ascend to Aspectdom at that point. He had proven himself.

It's all vety interesting. I am excited to see where it goes from here. I want to read his new lore entry and find out what oath he broke as well as what the future holds for him.
