Kassadin is not equipped to fight against the Void.

So either he needs a rework ('cause not only does the kit not fit his lore/theme, but it's also a kit of the design that it's either too weak or too strong) Or they need to fix the lore to state that one of his goals is to search for allies that an fill in the gaps in his strength, 'cause trying to fight them all by himself is pretty lame when he can't even manage to make a shield that blocks CLAWS.

Passive: -15% Magic damage Q: Magic-only shield and an interrupt that only works on one Void champion in a 1v1. W: Is ok E: Requires spells spammed nearby, which often means taking a full burst to the face before it can be used. R: Only one voidspawn relies on attacks that can be countered by a blink.

So the kit is designed around fighting magical opponents. Makes sense since Cho'gath was the only Void champion in the game when Kassadin was released.

But

Physical Damage Void champions: Kha'zix, Rek'sai Magical Damage Void champions: Cho'gath, Vel'koz Mixed/Either: Kog'maw, Malzahar.

Skins: 2 physical (Nocturne, Illaoi), 1 magic (Fizz)

Kassadin is thus poorly equipped to fight the enemy he's designed to fight.

And keep in mind that his relation to the Void at all was just shoved in to give some relation to Malzahar a few years later. But with the current story he'd be better suited as an Aspect than just a dude who fell into the Void.

I think the obvious issue here is that he was designed with only Malzahar in mind. Lore-wise they hate each-other's guts and Kassadin was meant to hunt him down. He's more of a Mageslayer than a Voidslayer as a result. Then the roster of Voidlings expanded but his kit didn't.

Whether a champion receives rework should definitely be focused on the gameplay and not the lore, but if/when he does get reworked, it'd be interesting to see him being somewhat counter Void champions in general. (also, probably a stupid idea but it'd be cool if all the void champions have some sort of true damage, since like half already do anyway, and for thematic cohesion)

Tbh Kass wouldn't be op if they changed his shield to block all damage, but it's better not to risk it.

Worth noting, the 'higher thinking' Voidborn use magical damage and attacks for the most part (nearly all of them, aside from some odd abilities). It's likely Kassadin is more concerned about killing the leaders than the footsoldiers.

this is really dumb

in my opinion

I hate seeing these threads, he's finally strong and not broken and now you want a rework? Did everyone forget about 98% ban rate Kassadin?

Eh, he's like a surprisingly more well informed character in a Lovecraft book. He's not really designed to fight Cthulhu, he's trying to fight those insane cultists trying to wake Cthulhu up.

Just change cultist to mage and Cthulhu to Void and call it a day.

I'm actually disappointed he didn't get any work whatsoever in the assassin update. I don't think he needs outright buffs but the way his force pulse works really irks me.

Also he could use a new VO so the lines actually have something to do with his lore, and so he doesn't have two lines about having a silence.

I'd love to see some kind of Bonetooth Necklace-like passive based on killing Void Champions for him in the future.

I think kassadins anti-magic powers are more likely to be a result of the void corruption and not something that he trained specifically to fight the void.

Zelorxon11/6/2016, 12:14:04 AM1 votes

Technically he had a silence and a 929847398 Km jump before, it was nerfed because there was no counterplay to somene that jumps on you and pops you blocking all your spells, i guess that he in origin was able to fight the void...

Yes but mana costs dont exsist in lore.

Technically, neither Kassadin's nor Malzahar's lore is actually canon right now. Same with Cho, maybe others too.

That being said, a part of Kass's lore is that he leads a group called "The Preservers of Valoran." They're a faction dedicated to stopping the Void invasion.

(This is only kinda relevant) Right now, Riot is making the Void invasion a more global problem. It seems like Targon is currently the first line of defense against the Void, and Shurima has voidlings scuttling around. All of this might mean that Kassadin is gonna have a big lore overhaul (just conjecture).

Oh! And Rek'Sai isn't really that Void based. Her species is originally from the Void, but they've been around for so long that most people probably just think that they're Shuriman in origin. I feel like a sai probably wouldn't even survive if it went back to the Void somehow.
