It helps if you've watched Edge of Tomorrow/Steins;Gate but failing over and over again to save the life of a loved one must take a toll on his psyche.
Yet he doesn't sound the least bit broken in his dialogue and it really confuses me. Maybe it's because he's still young but I'd expect to at least see signs of the stress taking its toll on his mind.
It's because he's actually succeeded. He doesn't succeed all the time, but he has before, and that's what keeps him going. He's had his share of heart ache and also satisfcation using the Zero-Drive. I can imagine his first time failing with the power of time and literally running himself in to the ground trying to fix things, but eventually you hit that point where you hit a wall and you can't go on. It probably sent him in to a depressive state, until something significant coaxed him out of it.
Also keep in mind with his dialogue, he's got friends who he's close with. He might just be putting on an act to ensure they don't worry about him. Look at the comic and cinematic again, and you can see how pained he is as a person.
Managing to stay sane after 90+ attempts at getting to your dying friend and seeing him die multiple times before your eyes takes strong will. Not to mention the fact he knows who the killer is, but he didnt let his anger get the better of him at the end, in the end he knew what was more important and that was comforting his friend so he wont die alone.
That is why Ekko is awesome and everyone that says he is a shallow champion are utterly wrong.

He is strong.
He suffered a lot, but he managed to get past all the pain and keep his sanity because he is better than that.
The difference I'm seeing here is that Ekko isn't trying to save his friend. He keeps going back to simply reach his friend who he knows is dying. If he doesn't make it perfectly then he can't figure out who is responsible. He has to make it with enough time for his friend to tell him. He has accepted that his friend is dead, but it doesn't mean he has to let the killer walk away. Once he finds out who it is from his most successful run to his friend he kills the murderer. This is why i think its not weighing on him like you expect it to. He isn't try to save his friend, but get revenge.
he seems like he tries and when he is absolutely sure he couldnt do he can come to terms with what happens. the person only dies once if you think properly you arnt bringing them back to life its that you saw what could be and try to change it and if you cant you morn them just like if you didnt have the power to go back in time. people who dont have the power to go back in time still experience loss some even realize they could do something about it try and fail they dont all go insane. will power isnt something garented to break when you experience a certain amount of things that hit it as far as we have seen with jinx she was in the exact same place as vi and ekko but she went crazy where seemingly nothing pushed her there

Eventually Ekko will probably become cold and isolated from others. Hell, when I was his age I was the same way, all about trying to help my friends and feeling incredibly guilt when I failed. Time and time again, trying repeatedly only to fail. Eventually Ekko will either start seeing success, in some form, thereby pushing him to keep trying OR he will let reality break him down into a cold and isolated person who focuses on things that are actually within his realm of control.
