How can I be sure Riot won't retcon lore again?

Honestly, that's one of the biggest problems with the lore fiasco for me. Riot's just retconning everything I liked, and it makes me worried for the future. What else will be retcon? Will they retcon their previous retcons because they don't like it? Will one of my favorite champs get a Trundle-esque relaunch?

I just don't feel like I can form any sort of attachment with a character or a part of the world without being able to know how long they're going to be here. Riot could just retcon them away and say something about how not enough people liked them or something. The new lore is always going to have the specter of 'this could change at any time!' hanging over it now.

One of the many reasons retcons suck.

Oh, no, I'm sure this is the last time.

I ignore all post retcon lore, not worth my time. If all the time I put into learning, and liking, the previous lore there is no reason for me to care about the new lore for it to get retconned in like 1 year when they do nothing with it again.

There is no reason to put any faith in the Narrative team. Just keep reminding them that and maybe they'll learn from these god awful fucking mistakes.

Seriously, engage your community Riot. Even if you don't like what it is they want, the community IS your consumer after all.

Even if they retcon the new lore, it wouldn't happen for a long time. At the moment, every lore not currently retconned will be retconned at some point.

They've already retconned it twice, first time was removing the journal of justice.

You can't. But then again, you can't be sure any given producer of content won't retcon their lore, so why don't you complain about everything else, too?

Heres the thing about ALOT of pre retcon lore (even journal of justice was guilty of this) like 40% of it was "X is a mystery, but where did it originate?" Riot just left so many mysteries sitting on the table. As some examples: rammus, evelynn, the malz vs kass thing in joj, anything related to the history of the shadow isles, gnar (hes pre retcon technically), and even fiddlesticks...

Riot got away with making so many champs just have no backstory and were added in "justcuz" Right now were seeing the shit side of the retcon - shorter lores, loss of identity, and really lack of communication with riot. What we need to think about is Riot actually completing plot threads (At least thats what theyre saying...) and maybe all of the scraps were getting now are simply the nuts and bolts to hold together a new car.

Some people need to have some hope here and not just hope for riot to communicate, Riot is all about secrets and keeping things under wraps. Right now people need to just attempt to keep hopes high, and hell keep tossing neato lore ideas to riot!

tl:dr Not all pre retcon lore was really that stupendous, try to have some hope Riot will give us something nice in the end. And lastly odds are Riot wont talk to us, but hell might as well keep tossing ideas so when they do we can have some actual conversations on how is done.

ALSO THIS WAS ALL WRITTEN ON MY IPHONE INBETWEEN CLASSES - so sorry for how awful this probably looks or sounds or how many downvotes im gonna get for playig devils advocate....

I think for the most part (with very few exceptions) champions will maintain their themes and personalities, so feel free to enjoy the characters.

The backstories and in particular the details within those backstories may change. You should encourage the creativeness because what Riot is doing is not abandoning lore, but trying to look for ways to make it more interesting and opening doors to more interactions between the champions. You're likely to see more engaging cinematics and stories play out, and maybe even a movie one day. To do that, they needed to make a lot of changes.

The retcon's I have seen and the others from the past have not been "character breaking." The worst is possibly Trundle.. A small, toxic swamp troll- turned into a large, powerful ice troll. But you still got yourself a club swinging troll- hell- even with an original skin.

Retcon's to me that break a character is if .. Say they take Riven.. And make her an evil, male Demacian knight to rival Garen... That to me would be character breaking.

That being said, it is an investment to follow a character, but not all changes are terrible.
