I am not sure.. he looks so modern to me? Like a hipster graphics designer, or a runway model. I thought he was supposed to be some ancient human living in the mountains. Thoughts?

I think it's the beard, not the hair. You don't get that kind of beard without a lot of hairspray.

In older times, animal fats (such as chicken fat) and squashed bugs ground into a paste could be used to style hair.

I think part of it is just the artistic style. His hair is probably a lot more frayed in reality. But it does give off the "Kratos look" really well.

His beard is common look at old greek and middle eastern statues. they have that rectangular beard.
