What the actual fuck Riot

I've been silent this all damn time, I've liked the idea of opening up the possibility of meta without marksmen and was ready to patiently wait for weeks and months until you get him right, but this is too much. Why the hell would you remove the core identity of the champion from his lore, you have released a god damn metal album with his face on it.

It's been well over a year since the Shurima "lore" has butchered characters like Skarner, Amumu and Alistar, and left their lore as a three-line note devoid of all the intricaties we came to love. A YEAR. Games get developed in that time from scratch to release. Games with just as much written content and much, much less of a dev team.

The Bilgewater event gave us some hope, but at this pace it's looking REALLY grim, and we have no grounds to believe or trust you, Riot. It's little details like this that keep ruining our hopes.

Well, it makes sense?

What does Metal have to do with morde right now?

  • His W is flecks of steel
  • His abilities reference metal music.
  • He wears armor.

Comparative to what he does with death?

  • He is a specter/revanent from the shadow isles.
  • He bends spirits to his whim.
  • His abilities drain the life of his foes.
  • The main attraction of Morde has, and always will be, summoning a spirit you killed to fight for you.
  • Death is a type of metal (Death Metal, huehuehue)

I think Death has more to do with Morde than metal, but I think an easy compromise could be to make the title "Lord of Death and Metal" or maybe "Lord of Death metal".

People like to complain about every single change, there's no point in bringing up logic with them. The new title fits MUCH better with the new Mordekaiser. He isn't and has NEVER been the master of metal. None of his skills were metal related, besides his old W, and all of his skill's names (metal genre related though).

His abilities were a play on words for metal songs and is the guitarist for a metal band when you look at the skins, which even have an album released.

Guitarist... yes. However, that was part of a SKIN he has, which like every other skin, is supposed to be a different "fantasy" for that champion.

His skills still are a play on words for metal songs, but if they were to try to connect to this to his theme, his lore would never make sense. Similar to what they did with Sion (Arnold voice), they're doing to Mordekaiser.

But then you look at the fact that the skins are generally still the character. They still fit the theme of the champion, even if they might be shit. They don't just pick a champion at complete random and just start making something completely random.

Plus why does a lord of death say, "I like my weapons how I like my music. Heavy and metal!" Nothing in common!

Oh yeah and seeing as how Morde doesnt have the whole "unmasked kayle" thing he might as well BE metal himself.

May I provide a counter "what if" scenario?

Morde's entire abilities' names and visuals revolved around a Metal theme. He's a being enshrouded in a large suit of armor; it implies he's undead but not that he's a spirit. His abilities had him throwing around metal and causing pain. That damage fed into his passive which is a shield (perhaps spectral but a physical metallic shield is just as valid interpretation). If that remained with the ability visual update then the only outlier would have been his ult's visual and his very short lore that described him ripping the soul from a person to get information. I've made a post on this before but if his ult was instead about encasing a foe in metal shards and creating a metalic pawn (on death), his lore could be changed to simply be about using metal/iron maiden like torture to extract information instead.

I find that to be a more interesting and unique character rather than another spectral soul stealer. Thresh already has that theme and Yorick's ult is similar in feel. They could have embraced Morde's metallic theme and made him the Paladin of Pain. Perhaps his own suit of armor is an iron maiden that tortures him and he in turn feeds off that pain and the pain he inflicts in others.

Like I said in the last section, I still think that "Metal" should be kept somewhere in his title. Maybe not the center stage as it is now but put it alongside death. Metal, at the moment, is the core of morde's identity visually and aesthically. I'm just advocating for...brand expansion, for lack of a better word.

In addition, we'll know more when the long-form fiction comes to the character page soon-ish. I'm thinking that will tell us more about the character more than any other form could. TL;DR: Keep the metal, but don't make it the main attraction. Metal may be the lead guitarist but a band needs vocals, drums, bass and more.

The issue is that "Master of Metal" was actually a creative and unique identity. "Lord of death" is extremely generic, and in fact could be taken to describe other champions as well (Karrthus immediately comes to mind, followed by most of the other older shadow isles champs, and I could even see it being applied to Veigar (although if that happened in universe, he'd probably go on a rampage because it's such a BORING title)). TBH, the same also applies to the "mistress of the Blade" title they tried to put on Fiora.

It really is generic, isn't it? It sounds like the half-baked placeholder title for a community Champion concept.

Because he's shown no signs of stopping the things he messes up, if he was getting better then people might cut him slack but all of the champs he's had sole control over have been horrid balance issues that also frustrate people that have to fight them.

Its not incapable, its he has yet to show a reason to have slack. Anything he touches basically breaks, Riot rarely cares enough to fix them unless pros say something and even then, pros during WORLDS OF ALL THINGS are saying Morde is broken and they still don't care.

Not to mention his condenscending attitude, Idc if they have the most retarded community or not, these are customers he is speaking to, no professional talks that way to people. So no, he deserves to get raged at and boo'd at when he shows up to any type of game convention, he is a disrespectful man.

She'll also get Sniper's ult cooldown, and a piercing mechanic that enables it to go through a body-blocker and do (reduced) damage to its target anyway, or if it kills a body-blocker it keeps flying to the target at full damage because fuck you for trying.

Or remove body-blocking altogether, a la Sniper himself.

They are giving the shadow isle the "shurima" treatment, AKA reworking all of it's lore. The shadow isle are only next in the queue, riot plans to rework all of leagues lore one bit at a time.

wait, how did Shumia effect Alistar and Skarner? o.O from what I've read Alistar came from a tribe/group of Minotaurs that lived along some kind of boarder wall and Alistar was the mightiest in the group, but one day he was tricked and captured by Noxus. From there he was forced to compete in The Fleshing (like Xin ShaoXinZhao ). For Skarner he is from an ancient race and arose to scout the land to see if it was safe for his kind to return, but found nothing but a conflict between Demacia and Noxus at what is currently the Dominion map.

the only one of those 3 I know was changed was Amumu who went from a Yordel to a Shuriman child.

Lets just face the reality guys. Riot is no longer for the players. They stopped giving a shit about the players and there wants/desires in S3 and it's only gotten worse from there. They, like every company in existence that has ever gotten large have forgotten who put them in there position of power in the first place and why we decided to do it.

I still love league. But Riot? I could care less anymore. They've stopped interacting, they've stopped caring and they seemingly do whatever they can just to wave there power over us saying "Rito choice no back talk." Frankly put, there entire company could go under, every single rioter could end up fired and I would not give a damn anymore.

Riot stopped caring about us a long time ago. Might as well accept that and move on now. It'll be less painful in the future.
