Anybody else finds Varus' motivations to be well... non existent?

According to his lore Varus seeks to reunite the 5 and lay waste to the world.

Originally because darkin were an otherwordly race that was driven to extinction by humanity except for the 5 remaining. So Varus feeling all patriotic i guess hates humanity for destroying his kin.

But then Riot turned the Darkin into ascended making them brothers in arms but in recent lore we learn most darkin were not really on friendly terms and pretty much warred against each other all the time for the control of runeterra.

So why would current Varus declare war on humanity to avenge darkin who were most likely his enemies?

His character needs to he fleshed out more, pretty much invalidated his entire reason for vengeance with the darkin retcon. It would make more sense if he was looking to rule Runeterra and the mortals as they once did but looking to completely annihiliate it just makes no sense to me.

Revert his lore entirely, give back his wife and kid and just make the black pool a Darkin.

His awful lore change isn't loathed because of homophobia, it's JUST BAD.

It could still work, seeing as humans and Aspects did still imprison them. Might feel betrayed by those he once fought for alongside the other Darkin/Ascended. The reunited could be reunited in arms instead of against each other, especially since they all seem to have other things going on right now.

A stretch, but it kind still kinda work.

Though i don’t think Aatrox currently wants to work with Varus after he missed the double “a” memo, or Rhaast for picking from the gardening section. Might take some convincing.

Well, if I lost my spouse and kids because of some rebels and their stupidity, was hired as a soldier and transformed, fought against unspeakable horrors, was abandoned by everything I believed in, got my heart ripped off in a show of power and then stuck in a weapon only to wake up in a world that doesn't even remember my name or sacrifice (yet worships the very assholes that turned me into this mess), picked up by a couple that won't stop talking about love, spice and everything nice right into my brain...I would declare war on humanity too TBH.

P.S. Also, Varus' old lore would have worked better. He could have been the first human in the nearly perfect synergy with his Darkin weapon because both of them want revenge more than anything in the world and both have nothing to lose.

Perhaps Riot thinks Varus is just a vengeance. If we are just seeking a story of a revenger, we can read the story of Lucian or MF. I loved his regret for his tiny village and family, angry about himself who did not elect to protect the village, and "just a mediocre person Varus´s" self-sacrifice. it is different from grand revenge for the worldw by darkin Varus. In the current story I think that golden-armored warrior queen took all the reasons why I liked Varus. This is very frustrating.

Because Riot tried to hamfist revenge of some kind into Varus's story to pretend they didn't completely eradicate any and all relevance to the old Varus that people already liked. So much of how he fits into the world is just lazy garbage.

I think with further exploration we will get more info on him. Or they will just make him like a cartoon villain.

Honest question: Shouldn't we take literally all of the new Varus stuff as non-canon?

Riot did the new spin on Darken and then ret-con'd it just a few months later. Why should we take anything relating to him (the comic, bio, music video, all of it) seriously?
