Do Xerath and Ryze still use the same magic?

They were both arcane magic users, Xerath was using corrupted version tho. Ryze was seeing Xerath as abomination of a mage. He wasn't like him. So, is it going to continue with his update? Will we have special quotes for Xerath by Ryze? Will he still continue to see Xerath as rival?

They have pretty similar positions.

(I know I know this is just a fanart, but it is so good to be a fanart, I think it is going to be new Ryze splash art, Riot is leaking. If they don't prove the otherwise, I will continue to believe on that)

Well we know Ryze (atleast in his current lore) knows a lot of dark and corrupted spells through his scroll and book that also could lead to the destruction of Runeterra. And Xerath corrupted himself through betrayal and his powers that still didn't free him from himself and slavery. But I think they both use some different power. Ryze gains a lot of energy through unleashing his rune power and Xerath basicly is power. He learned a lot through ascension but both feel like they use different magic. There might be still some rivalry between Xerath and Ryze but I think this would tie more into how Xerath gained his power and for what he uses it.

So about how to explain what type of mage both of them are. I think Ryze is a rune mage with emence power and wisdom and Xerath is a energy mage with knowledge of the universe. About the part of who is more powerful I would say a battle between two would basicly just end through the distruction of the world. They seem to be on a similiar if not exact level of power. But sadly we'll have to wait until we know more about Ryze and his rework.

I'm not sure that that will be Ryze's new splash. He's getting visually overhauled, and I'm pretty sure, like everyone else, he'll take a few dramatic changes that will make him different enough from his current appearance. Very few visually updated characters have retained their old look exactly.

Well obviously! There both blue!

Jokes aside it would be cool if they linked the two.

Xerath uses ancient shurman magic combined with the power of ascention.

Ryze uses thorn magic, learned from witches, shamans, and hermits.
