Concept for New Lore: Rammus and Amumu (Now in Concept & Creations)
Introduction I have been playing League for 4 years. I like the game for the in depth story, and the world it creates. Every champion is tied to this world, and many champions are tied to each other. Lissandra gave Trundle his magical club. "Faction" champions have ties, the Yordles- military, and science, The Demacians, The Noxians, The Bilgewater Pirates, Freijlordians.. I probably spelled that wrong.. But these champions bring the outside world into the League. Instead of a few maps, I imagine an entire world where Champions from different areas come to test their might. (Mortal Kombat reference) I enjoy playing tanky champions. I like being the guy who comes in to save the day, but not steal the glory. Rammus and Amumu are great at glory stealing- but I really like the Armordillo and the Sad Mummy. However, this small introduction might be longer than both of their lores combined... So- I think Rammus and Amumu need a lore update. With the Shurima update, we have all the tools we need. The fall of the Shuriman Empire.
LORE
A Young Shurima Amumu Amumhotep awoke from a tired nap. He had been sitting at the oasis near his city, and fell asleep in the shade of an old tree. It was getting dark out, the sun edged on the horizon with an orange glow, and the sky grew dark. Amumhotep was going to be the Emperor one day, but he just wanted to have fun. He wasn't allowed to have any friends, because a prince had duties. Why couldn't he just be free of the parading, and dressing, and endless ceremonies? That's why he came to the oasis: to get away from everything. But, Amumhotep was a gentle boy, and decided to go back home before people began to worry. Along the way, Amumhotep stepped on something sharp, puncturing his foot and causing him to fall back in pain. The boy yelled out, and began to wail. The pointy mound he stepped on began to stir. The young prince began to snivel, tears rolling down his cheeks. Then the mound popped up, showing concerned eyes. It was a Shuriman armadillo! Those creatures that hide in the sand during the day with their shells poking up to keep them safe. Rammus The Shuriman sands were surprisingly cool at night. Many think of the desert as lifeless, sunny, and sweltering hot. But at night, the deserts chimed with crickets and life scurried the sands everywhere. Armadillos can be seen scuttling around, eating the beetles from the sand. One particular group was strutting around when an army of men trooped by. The marching created a tremor in the sands, and the armadillos popped into their shells for safety- except for one young critter. The young armadillo walked right into the path of the soldiers, and began scuttling around frantically. When the soldiers were just a foot away- he popped into his shell as tight as he could. "What's this!?", one of the soldiers remarked? He walked up to the small armadillo, and raised his staff behind him. With a mighty swing, the soldier sent the balled up critter flying. The soldiers laughed heartily and continued their march. The young armadillo landed with a thud and skidded in the desert sand, frightened. He emerged from his shell, and began crying out to his family. But, there was no response. So, he wandered off in search of them. The young armadillo searched all night, but was unsuccessful. The sun began to rise so he buried himself in the sand, feeling lonely. He had fallen asleep, and was awoken suddenly when something heavy pushed on his back. He could hear a very sad sound, and he remembered that he was alone.
Destined Friends Amumu Amumhotep scooted back from the armadillo, still sobbing. But as he looked into the eyes of the creature, he saw only sadness. The child began to hiccup as he tried to hold back his tears. "Ar..are y-you al-lone?" The armadillo seemed frightened. "W-would you l-like to play with me?" And the creature lifted its head, and slowly pulled itself from the sand. Amumhotep reached out, and gently petted the creature's chin. And the armadillo hugged the boy's knee, making a sad cooing. Amumhotep wrapped his foot with some "spare" cloth from his outfit, and carried his new friend home. "I think I'll call you Rammus!" Rammus The armadillo poked his eyes out from the sand. There was a boy, and the boy seemed so sad. The boy was murmuring something that the creature couldn't understand, but it seemed kind and welcoming. So the young armadillo crawled toward the boy. They boy stroked the creature's chin, and the armadillo held the boy and began to cry. After a moment, the boy picked himself up and began tugging at his arm. He removed a piece of his arm and attached it to his foot. It was bizarre. Then the boy lifted the armadillo into his arms and started murmuring again. "Mmok ok okay Rammus!"
Lonely No More Amumu Amumhotep took great care of his new friend. Everywhere the prince went, Rammus would follow at his side. The armadillo even started to recognize its name. Everyday they would go out to the oasis, and share the shade. But, Amumhotep still had duties to Shurima. Amumhotep had to prepare for his Ascension, he was the youngest to ever go through the ritual. Shurima was fighting a war that seemed endless, and the people began to question the greatness of the emperor. So the emperor decided to have his son's Ascension much earlier- to gain the intrigue of his subjects, and keep them entertained. This made the young prince sad. He wanted nothing to do with rituals, and he wished he hadn't been the prince at all. But, he ended up accepting his responsibility, and he even had a servant craft armor for the armadillo just for the ceremony. He put the armor on the creature, and smiled. "We're going to be friends forever, Rammus!" Rammus The boy was gentle, and kind to the armadillo. And he kept saying, "Rammus" a lot, which made the armadillo curious. The palace where they lived was quite cool, and because the boy slept at night- so did the armadillo. The two went off to a nice spot in the desert everyday. The armadillo loved burrowing in the desert ground, and drinking from the pond while still concealed by sand. As time went on, the boy became more and more busy. They began going to the oasis less often, and never stayed there too long anymore. The boy seemed upset about something all the time. But, things started to get better. The boy wasn't as upset anymore, and even started murmuring to the armadillo again. One day, the boy brought attached something to the armadillo's body. It was quite strange, but it felt nice and safe.
The Tragedy of Friends Amumu Everyone was getting ready for the ceremony. Amumhotep grew anxious. "What if I'm not ready, Rammus? What if I mess up the ceremony, and everyone is mad at me?" The armadillo stared at him blankly. "You're right, I just have to toughen up and get through this." People began to flood the streets, the sounds of joy and laughter carried to Amumhotep's chambers. "I guess we're ready." The prince was darned with fabulous robes, and a ceremonial chest piece of solid gold. As he neared the archway, the tone of the crowd changed. There was silence, then shouts and screams. The people sounded frightened. Amumhotep ran off to see what the commotion was. Enemy soldiers were charging through the streets, and a battle had begun. Amumhotep rushed to find his father. He ran down the corridor, and was cut off by opposing enemies. The enemies quickly recognized him, and surrounded him. The prince stumbled back, the spears of the men closing in on him. He closed his eyes, and felt his heart become pierced. Rammus One day, the boy dressed rather oddly. He looked like white sand being poured from the sun. The streets outside were roaring with people. The armadillo started rocking on his back when the boy called to him. Rammus was too big to be held by the boy now, so he walked everywhere the boy went. Suddenly, the roars of the people became awful. The armadillo could sense something was wrong, and started to climb up the boy's leg. But the boy ran off too soon. The armadillo began to follow him, but couldn't keep up. Then some men cam rushing through one of the halls. The armadillo recognized the armor of these men- the reason he had lost his family. He began to creep around the pillars, keeping an eye on them. But then the boy came back and alerted the soldiers. They lowered their spears, and the boy fell- covering his face with his hands. The armadillo jumped out as fast as he could. He managed to jump in the way just in time. The spears stabbed into his belly, and broke off. The armadillo was terribly injured. Spear shafts stuck out of him at different angles. He fell back from the force, and landed abruptly with a soft thud. He closed his eyes, and drifted.
The Funeral Shared The enemy forces were wiped out almost as soon as they showed up. Guards began patrolling the streets, and people were already cleaning up the mess. But everyone soon stopped what they were doing. People began to crowd the palace. In the Great Hall, the Shuriman Prince laid dead- a spike from the shell of his animal companion stuck deep in his chest. The armadillo laid spread out on the boy's chest, with spears poking out at all angles. The city mourned greatly at the loss, and the deep bond between the prince and the armadillo. The Emperor quickly understood what had happened, and had special chambers constructed for his son and his son's friend. The armadillos was treated like royalty, and was wrapped and treated along with Amumhotep. Their chambers were separate, but connected by a single large hallway. A statue was raised above them, depicting a man- half human, half Shuriman armadillo- with the words "In life and death as one".
Xerath's Ascension The destruction of Shurima left magical energy flowing rampant through the desert. Some of this magic began to reside within "The Tomb of the Armored Prince". The magic slowly drifted to the preserved bodies of Amumhotep and Rammus, and they rose.
Rude Awakening Amumu Many years later, the prince began to stir. He stood up, and looked around him. Wherever he was- it was abandoned, and destroyed. He felt so lonely, and tried desperately to remember something- anything at all. He felt his chest, as if something was missing. Who was he? He could recall his name, or what might have been his name. Amumum something? Amumu..? The wrapped prince began to weep, and started smashing his tomb in a wild tantrum. He laid in the wreck for weeks before emerging. Rammus Years had passed. Suddenly, the armadillo began to move around. He began frantically tearing off his bandages with his spiky shell. He felt disoriented. His mind began to race with new feelings- new types of thoughts. He began experiencing the thought of questions. Nothing made sense- and it made no sense that something should make sense. He stood up, and tried to remember what had happened. But he couldn't remember anything at all except the gentle sound, "Rammus". That must be his name, it chimed in his head in different tones- like many memories of one sound. Rammus felt alone, and began throwing a fit. As he stomped, the floors and walls began to shake and crumble- and Rammus was left standing in ruin. With no purpose in life, Rammus started off into the desert to seek answers.
Tying It Up Amumu Amumu is a diminutive, animated cadaver who wanders the world, trying to discover his true identity. He rose from an ancient Shuriman tomb bound in corpse wrappings with no knowledge of his past, consumed with an uncontrollable sadness. Rammus The mysteries that surround Rammus are numerous. How did a simple creature of the desert suddenly become able to reason? How did he craft his vaunted suit of armor? What is he searching for as he crosses the Shuriman desert? One thing is for certain: trying to stop the inexorable Rammus is a fool's mission.
