Thoughts about the Glorious Evolved
I had to repost the thread here since the one in Story, Art, & Sound got deleted.....
Yesterday, I was looking through some of the character designs which didn't make it into the game Legends of Runeterra and there has been something that caught my eye and made me think for a while.
https://imgur.com/dqY96bL This guy is one of the concepts for a character from Piltover/Zaun, who didn't become a card in the game for now. He has some of the steampunk aesthetics, but one other major influence for his design seems to be Baron Samedi, a loa from Voodoo culture. To give some examples how Baron Samedi, who is a deity associated with death in voodoo, is pictured in pop culture: https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/smite_gamepedia/3/38/SkinArt_BaronSamedi_Default.jpg https://ctl.s6img.com/society6/img/FZYvGqeqj2Jvqkc2s2xbrwPFvEY/w_700/prints/~artwork/s6-original-art-uploads/society6/uploads/misc/865e1cab9041404686375e2913906cf1/~~/inktober-baron-samedi-prints.jpg
And that made me think: It's pretty interesting that they drew a character referencing voodoo and placed them in Piltover/Zaun. The first region I would think to place such a character would have been Bilgewater for me, but the idea fascinated me and I started to think that this could possibly mean a bit more than just "creating a cool looking character".
So I thought about religion in Zaun/Piltover. We know that people there are worshipping their local wind deity Janna (also getting some good hugs from her), but this is not the only cult in this city.
He doesn't look augmented enough for it yet, but I think it would be pretty cool if this initial idea here could inspire the Glorious Evolved in the future. We know that there has been a cult that formed around Viktor's concept of the Glorious Evolution, but they didn't interpret it the way Viktor does. In fact, it is really more a religion than people admiring his scientific approach. As stated by Riot Thermal Kitten here:
As some have speculated here, what if some of those people see more of the miracle and less of the science? What would a man of science do with that?
And we already know that, besides Viktor, they already started worshipping Camille as "the Grey Lady". This character, the Grey Lady, I think that this could potentially become a "loa". A being they think of as supernatural, basically worshipping her as a goddess. And Viktor could be the same, becoming a loa for that cult and they see him as the biggest deity in their cult, even if he actually completely disagrees with that strange cult that has formed around him.
They could even add more of the augmented people/creatures in the city to the loa. Urgot, for example, could become one alongside Camille and Viktor. Maybe Warwick, too. And maybe some day we could see some of the members of the Glorious Evolved, which have started to augment themselves, but also with these Voodoo references in their design.
Having this cult pray to some "technology gods", in voodoo they are called loa, for the Glorious Evolved they could surely make up a new and unique name for them..... I think this would be pretty awesome.
What do you guys think? Would this be a concept for the Glorious Evolved you would enjoy? Tell me in the comments!
