Old Lady Mage

Flailmorpho·7/5/2016, 12:56:06 AM·22 votes·2,401 views

I would love a character who's an old lady (not immortal or using magic to make them look young) as like, an old witch who is kindly and all grandmalike who will also throw down with her magic.

Maybe make her have some minor supporting abilities to add to the "grandma vibe"

She would probably be a bit of a control mage as well, having slow and strong CC abilities, along with a lack of strong mobility.

It would automatically be a visually unique character (We don't really have a lot of old women, most of them look around 20-30 even if they are older) It would add some lightheartedness to the recently all super dark and serious characters.

I do want to know, what kinds of kit do you guys think an old lady witch would be. Or do you have any twist on them that I didn't think of?

Isn't RekSai an old lady?

I would be really interested in seeing something like this. I could see her in a lilac hooded cloak leaning on a old gnarled cane with some sort of flower/s growing out of it. Maybe a kit tied to flowers/gardens, but tamed not wild like Zyra. Just tossing some things out there.

OP: "Riot, release a champ that's an old lady" Riot releases a hot grill with massive cleavage ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Arthimetes7/5/2016, 6:56:11 AM3 votes

how about just a full on grandma?

P- forcefeed : forces enemy and allied champions within vision range to instantly stop what they're doing and eat ALL of grandma's homemade pie. Grandma cooks one pie while standing still for 5 seconds and out of vision range of any other champion. Q- Kiss : Kiss an allied champion's Boo-boo, Healing them for 150% of their own Max HP. W- Allowance : buys an allied champion a random item worth at least 3000g. This is just between you and Grandma E- Would you be a dear... : grandma asks an enemy champion to walk her across the lane, charming them until she sucessfully makes it to the closest part of the river. R- Finger Wag : Shame on you.

Serious note: Actually a good idea, I'd play an old lady mage

Well, we could always add Annie's mother, Amoline. She's a witch who's part of the "Gray Order" in the Voodoo Lands, just due south of Noxus. It's a place full of social and political outcasts, that not even the citizens of Noxus want to deal with.

Would be great to see more emphasis on smaller places like these that already have their own lore written, and have it be expanded upon. You know, instead of seeing NEW places being used or the usual 10 major zones. (Damacia, Noxus, Zaun, Piltover, Shurima, Void, Shadow Isles, Bilgewater, Freljord, Bandle City.)

My idea on how she'd be is all about her using hexes to curse enemies and take control of others. Similar to the original Tabboo character who was a witch-doctor and was scrapped during his character creation process. As you put it: Immobile, heavily CC dependent, control mage theme.

Passive: Visions of the Shadows

Amoline passively taps into the shadows around her, gathering power from them while she is in brush and unseen by enemies while in the fog of war-- gaining increasing bonus % AP based on how much "Hex" she has at one time raising up to a cap of 60% bonus AP at six bars of Hex. Amoline does not use mana as a resource, but instead uses "Hex"; Hex is generated slowly over time, but doubles in speed while she is unseen by the enemy team and has a maximum of six bars. All of Amoline's abilities use bars of Hex as a resource.

Eldritch Bind Costs 1 Hex

Amoline binds one enemy unit to another allied or enemy unit. Enemies who are bound take a percentage of damage that their bound partner does in combat, and allies heal for damage taken by the enemy that is bound. If the link is broken early, enemies bound will be slowed and allies given that amount as bonus movement speed. This ability does not have a cooldown and can be used to link multiple targets to a single enemy or ally. A link lasts until one of the two units dies, a specific number of damage based on Amoline's AP/ability rank is reached, or when the two targets are out of range of one another. (IE: If Amoline has 100 AP, the cap for damage the unit can take before the binding ends is roughly 150 at rank one.) Additionally, if one of the links to a target who has more than one link to them is broken, all links are severed; the slow effect does not stack.

W: Grey Pact Costs 2 Hex

Amoline selects a target zone, enveloping that area with a curse. Any enemy units inside this zone after a 0.8 second delay will be "Cursed". Cursed units will deal 10% less damage, take 10% more damage, and be slowed for 10% per rank of this spell up to a maximum of 50% each at rank 5. Cursed lasts for 5 seconds at all ranks. Additionally, this spell deals damage to units when the effect first starts.

E: Mind Blast Costs 2 Hex

Amoline confuses enemies in a radius around her, forcing them to be taunted to their nearest ally for up to 1.6 seconds based on ability rank. Additionally, this ability deals damage to targets affected by it. (Note: Epic monsters and structures are immune to this effect)

Power Word: Death Costs 6 Hex

Amoline channels for up to 6 seconds, dealing increased damage and having a wider range of effect based on how long she channeled the ability. After the channel is finished or ended prematurely, all units in the area, friend or foe, will take extreme damage and be silenced based on the rank of the ability. This ability cannot kill allies, but it can damage them including Amoline herself. Allies will be notified with a "DANGER" ping at the center of the ability's cast zone until it is done channeling. This ability can be interrupted, but if it is interrupted after at least 3 seconds of channeling, the effect will still occur.

Champions Amoline would work well with: Akali Nocturne Annie Yorick Champions Amoline would struggle against: MasterYi Gangplank TwistedFate Kassadin Champions Amoline would work well against: Heimerdinger Malzahar Braum Fizz

Amoline does best when she's unexpected and unseen by her enemies, as she gains Hex faster while unseen regardless of whether she's in combat or not. This means champions who obstruct vision like Akali or Nocturn do wonders for her as allies, and champion with controllable minions like Annie and Yorick allow her to deal damage to her enemies with Eldritch Bind with ease. She does poorly against champions who have the ability to ignore or remove CC effects and chase her down, such as Master Yi, Gangplank, Kassadin. She also does poorly against champions who can force vision of her, such as Twisted Fate. Amoline works best against champions who have summons of their own, and champions who do best in groups, as she can use their allies against them.

She'd do best being played in the Jungle, Mid, or as a Support.

If I were to give her a look, I'd say something along the lines of

This would be a really interesting concept for a character. The first thing that came to mind for me would have the "Grandmother" either have a permanent pet to aid her, or have her manipulate an object(s) for her ablilities such as string, an ally, etc.

Now that QSS only removes CC Riot could finally make a Debuff/Curse champion. I could totally see an old lady throwing curses around, like how in movies you got those stereotypical gypsie fortune tellers or the old Chinese man who owns a shop of cursed antiques (but a woman instead).

All Riot has to do is model her after Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall actress), British accent and all, and they'll have a winner. For real. Do it.

Since Riot is riding the Shurima wave they could also do an elderly Shurima priestess, possibly an undead one pls? Plenty of undead male champs, not so much in the female department.

A champ inspired by the "Witch of the Waste" from Howl's Moving Castle would also be pretty cool to see tho. At the very least, that level of creativity in her design. In the movie, that particular witch could turn into slime and pass through someone to curse them, and summons slime golems, plus she herself has a strong character, physically and mentally, at least initially...and throw in the magic cigar she gets later- OH, right...

Mecha Incognito7/5/2016, 2:53:49 PM2 votes

I'm all for this, except she should totally be either a tank or a marksman.

I'd be amazing to have some old lady blasting everyone away with a rifle, or have her be ridiculously tanky, even if she served no other purpose.

Yvaelle7/5/2016, 6:09:05 PM2 votes

A witch would be cool IMO.

Passive: Scythe rider. Witch rides a scythe, increasing movement speed and allowing her to pass over minions/enemies (Janna passive basically). Q - Passive: Clarity - basic attacking applies Clarity to the Witch, stacking up to 5. For each stack of Clarity on the Witch, she deals X additional magic damage (up to X*5 at 5 stacks). Using abilities consumes her Clarity stacks to provide additional benefits.

Q - Active: Alacrity - for the next 5 seconds, allied target gains bonus attack speed, and attacks apply a 10% stacking slow (2 second duration, refreshed on new stacks), 20 second cooldown. Can apply to herself. For each stack of Clarity consumed by Alacrity, the Witch regains X mana.

W - Wilt - After 1 second, deals damage in the targeted area. For each stack of Clarity consumed, Wilt restores X health over 5 seconds.

E - Cull - Witch quickly dashes forward on her Scythe, and passing over small walls (like a Nidalee hop, maybe a bit further though). For each stack of Clarity consumed, Cull stuns targets it passes through for 0.3 seconds.

R - Revive - The Witch returns to life the most recently deceased ally (within a certain distance). If the Witch dies while Revive is available, the Witch automatically Revives herself from death. For each stack of Clarity consumed, the ally returns with an additional 20% of their max health.

Witch is a ranged champion who can be played as either a Top or Support.

As a Top laner, Witch is fast and mobile due to both her passive and Cull - her dash (E). She is very squishy, with low base health and defensive stats, but has high sustain due to her use of Clarity stacks for either mana (Alacrity) or health (Wilt). Most of her damage comes from her auto attacks due to Alacrity (passive & active), and she's good at chasing down fleeing opponents due to her high passive movement, her Cull dash (E), and her self-applied Alacrity slow stacks (Q active).

Left alone in lane, Witch has strong splitpushing potential due to her high sustain, ability to hit entire waves with Wilt, quick escapes by Culling over walls, and self-Revive ultimate. You don't want to ignore her in lane, or she'll push it out quickly and eat your towers, fleeing when you return. However, being that's she is frail and not especcially good at dueling especcially in the early game (items help her lots in this regard, more later), she doesn't have much kill potential. She's a passive farmer in early game, who becomes a late-game splitpushing and roaming terror (she's Quinn-esque).

Her kill potential is is greatly limited by her attack speed, due to the reliance on Clarity stacks to empower her abilities. She can use 5 Clarity stacks to empower her Cull to a 1.5 second skill-shot stun (which also puts her in melee range, which is dangerous especially if she misses the stun), or she can use her 5 Clarity stacks to empower her auto attacks with Alacrity (Q), but she can't do both in a timely fashion (especcially in early game): so she really has no burst - but her sustained auto attacks can get pretty troubling due to her Alacrity passive bonus on-hit magic damage, and her Alacrity active attack speed steroid + slow.

She's strong versus things like Darius and Illaoi, who may get kited by her early on, but she's countered by assassins who can get on her quickly and burst (Diana, Akali, etc) and other ranged tops (Teemo, Quinn) who can blind her auto attacks: denying both her damage and Clarity stacks.

As a support, Witch has strong auto-attack based poke in lane, she can grant her Alacrity (Q) to her Marksmen to accelerate their attack speed and give their autos a stacking slow, making them very dangerous - while still having 5 Clarity stacks to use her Cull to dash in and land a potentially 1.5 second stun (even on multiple targets if she passes through them!): before laying down a Wilt on her stunned targets that is now guaranteed to hit. If her Marksmen dies, Witch can Revive them - making her a particularly high priority (and squishy) back-line support - who paradoxically needs to stay close enough to build Clarity stacks off her auto attacks: giving her a very high positioning skill-cap.

Build-wise, Witch has a strong incentive toward magic on-hit damage and AS items, such as Nashor's Tooth, Wit's End, and Frost Queens claim. However due to her incentive toward attack speed builds, she can also build AP/AD hybrid items, or even physical on-hit items: anything from Hextech Gunblade to Blade of the Ruined King. This gives her a wide variety of build paths depending on her role and opponent. Against a high health top laner, she may want Blade of the Ruined King, while for pure AP damage she may prefer Nashor's Tooth into even Rabadon's Deathcap (her on-hit magic damage scaling both off Nashor's and her Alacrity passive (Q)).

Alternately, she can try to shore up her fragility with tanky items, such as Spirit Visage (benefitting her Clarity-empowered Wilts (W)), Abyssal Scepter, Rylais, or even Warmog's. Having more health as a toplaner empowers her dueling potential and also increases the health she can potentially self-Revive (R) with if she dies with 5 Clarity stacks while fleeing. As a support, being tankier better enables her to stay near the front line of combat and reliably build more Clarity stacks for her multi-target Cull (E) stuns, and Revive (R) heals.

I think this could be pretty cool, I'd love to see a new support sort of champ that really works "outside" the box so to speak.

Wyrmblade7/5/2016, 7:11:20 AM1 votes

I forget what it was exactly but Riot has some weird thing against old lady ideas because it would be "ageism" or something.

I think this stance is stupid because league is built up on archetypes in the first place; a character that's just randomly happens to be an old lady would actually fit less with league of legend's character design than a character who uses cliches surrounding old lady archetypes as a foundation to build a unique character.

This makes me sad because it means we might never get a crazy old classical witch or a really nice grandma, when league sorely needs one.

As for ideas, I did have one a while back for a Noxian Yordle support that looked like a pug. She showed strength through kindness, and practically raised generations of Noxians who would have otherwise had no one to support them. She was so well loved throughout Noxus that anyone who touched her would have the whole city after them. In gameplay she'd be sort of like a support hypercarry. Very fragile and slow, but incredibly powerful. Never came up with a good hook for a kit though.

SpecterVonBaren7/5/2016, 7:26:04 AM1 votes

Hhm... well I actually made a mage that you speak of. I'm torn as to whether to share it since I made the kit for my application to Riot but they also said I didn't have enough experience for them.... HHm... Well I designed an old lady mage from Noxus who was suppose to be the antithesis to the usual Noxus champions either being cruel or apathetic, she's not a bleeding heart or anything but her default view of people isn't to stab first and ask questions later.

She's a mage that has lived for over 100 years, fought in the previous Noxus vs Demacia war as a war mage, was married to Sion, taught Swain when he was a boy, how to use magic, and is a matron of the arts because the medium for her magic is paint and she has a very flexible kit but is extremely slow.

Appearance wise she's a small lady with a bent back, a large and long braided ponytail, an eyepatch, and a large paint pot on her back with paint that changes from blue to green to red depending on something in her kit and she leans on a staff that has a paintbrush brush on the end. And her first skin would be Groovy Jale (Jale being her name and the name of a made up color).

Someone had made a post about this a long time ago and morello or meddler said they needed more of a reason to do so because age wasn't enough apparently. Would make sense to have an old hag from the shadow isles that cursed people for a living and performed voodoo or some sort of witch doctor people went to, something around that would work with a lore or simply a witch that would prey on injured soldiers on the battle field.
