[Champion Concept] Rok'Na: The Shadow Wraith (Unrelated to the void)

DriftThruTheRift·7/18/2015, 3:13:34 AM·2 votes·1,474 views

Rok'Na is an mid lane ap champion that uses shadow bolts as his auto attack.

Lore: As of now, this is still undecided. I have an idea for it but I don't know if it is something I will like for this champion so this'll wait =P.

Visuals: To start it off I'm gonna get into the visuals of what this champion will look like. So basically it's pretty much what you would expect a shadow wraith to look like, a person upper body from the chest up while his lower half fades away (Picture at the bottom). His voice is like a deathly whispered tone, like something you would hear in a scary movie. Now on to the abilities.

:Abilities:

Passive (Darkness):

Gains stacks of Darkness after dealing auto damage to only enemy champions. After 10 stacks it'll consume the next enemy or minion with darkness for 1.5 second (makes screen darkened, similar to graves ability which i forget which one).

Q (Shadow Strike):

Once activated Rok'Na will fade away to wherever the cursor is located. He then reappears to the cursor location and can be activated again but will shoot a shadow dart to wherever the cursor is once again. Rok'Na will stay at the location of where he faded to.

W (Illusion):

Creates a gap in the stomach for 1 second while making all projectiles/skill shots pass through it. Can still be damaged by aoe abilities if within the radius.

E (Expel The Shadows):

Shadow spikes shoot out of Rok'na damaging and slowing anyone within the radius.

R (Consume Control):

Turn into a shadow on the ground and swivel to the location of the cursor. If Rok'Na comes in contact with enemy champion it will take control of them for 3 seconds while dealing ap damage per second. If the ability misses he returns to where the ability was activated and the cooldown is halved. While controlling you cannot use that champions abilities but you can attack other champions with this champion. When controlling that champions healthbar become a solid black bar. Enemy champions can attack Rok'Na while he is consuming and when the black bar is depleted he will return to where the ability was first activated but with half the health he originally had.

:How To Play:

Playing as Rok'Na:

Since Rok'Na is a low health ap mid lane you will need to farm for your 10 stacks of Darkness. Once you have them use it on the enemy champion which will blur their screen for 1.5 seconds, then go in with Shadow Strike then use Expel The Shadows to slow the enemy . Then your gonna want to use Consume Control and you can either choose to either blink back by reactivating Shadow Strike then using your ultimate or use your ultimate while next to your opponent. Then direct them to where you please and use Illusion accordingly to whats being used against you.

Playing against Rok'Na:

Since he is a low health champion he is very vulnerable to heavy damage champions such as Vayne or MasterYi. Also any kind of crowd control such as Annie ultimate with her passive or just anything to really slow him down will ensure a kill. When Rok'Na uses Shadow Strike he has a full second of vulnerability as it takes a second to reactivate. When he activates his ultimate that's when you really want to focus down on him since he is guaranteed half the original health. Then make sure you have someone near where he used his ultimate since that is where he will return.

:Quotes:

In Champion Select: "None shall stand in the way of the shadows!"

On startup: "I have been summoned!"

General: "I am the true shadow." "Why live in the sun?" "The light will fear the day I was anew!"

When near Leona: "Today will be the day your sun shall burn out!" "I will consume your world in darkness!"

When near Zed: "Let me show you what true shadows are!"

Joke: Screeching as sun shines down on him and he fades away. "I shall control you!" While throwing up the star wars joke.

Taunt: "You can't hurt what you can't see." "I am the darkness to your light!"

Laugh: "What is laugh?"

Friends: Vayne Zed Nocturne

Enemies: Leona

Potentially more to added!

Also if there is any confusion just let me know and I will try to clear things up, hopefully i did a good enough job as it is =P

Here's my review

Passive (Darkness): Gains stacks of Darkness after dealing auto damage to only enemy champions. After 10 stacks it'll consume the next enemy or minion with darkness for 1.5 second (makes screen foggy).

Taking control away from players or interfering with their HUD or other visual information is always a grey area in design. On one hand, it could make for an interesting alternative to CC, but on the other hand, you want a person to feel like they lost because of their character's actions rather than their actions (I couldn't see my screen). Perhaps you could change it to some kind of vision reduction like Nocturne or Graves. I think it could fill the same kind of role that the passive does.

Q (Shadow Strike): Blinks to enemy champion or monster and swipes a shadow sword once dealing ap damage and activate to blink back to previous location. When activated there's a dark aura where the ability was activated. (Can be used on minions or monsters, shadow strike does not stack with Darkness). Shadow Strike cannot be reactivated for 1 second.

I like that you realized that instant blink-back would make the ability harass for free. The 1 second timer allows some element of risk/reward and allows your opponents to outplay you. Solid skill.

W (Illusion): Creates a gap in the stomach for 1 second while making all projectiles/skill shots pass through it. Can still be damaged by aoe abilities if within the radius.

Somewhat silly ability, which could be fine, unless you're going for a super srs scary ghost theme. Interesting defensive ability that might need some clarification. What about abilities that deal damage to everything in a line, is that an AoE or a skillshot? What about Diana's Q, as a more concrete example.

E (Expel The Shadows): Shadow spikes shoot out of Rok'na damaging and slowing anyone within the radius.

Seems a little uninspired to me, to be honest. Damage+slow is very simple and easy. Maybe think about what makes this champion unique? What is their role; are they an assassain? Utility mage? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Highlight that in the abilities.

R (Consume Control): Turn into a shadow on the ground and swivel to the location of the cursor.

Surely the inspiration for this concept, this kind of ability is quite hard to balance. I think the idea with the shadow health bar is good enough to balance the fact that you can pretty much get a free kill off of moving one of their teamates into your team. It being a skillshot also helps, meaning that you better hit it, or you're pretty screwed.

Overall I like it, and the abilities are pretty cool and decently balanced. If you really wanted to, I think you should modify the Q and E to be a little bit more unique.

This is a bit to similar to an already established character in the lore, Amoline Hastur, the Shadow Witch, aka Annie's mom. She is the second in charge of the city of dark arts users, Voodoo Lands, who's inhabitants were banned from Noxus for practicing magic deemed to dark and hunted by Demacians for the same reason.
