Legacy Game Mode and Legacy Vs.

On the classic Summoner's Rift, with classic legacy items. The only champions you can play on this game mode are champions who have had major reworks and relaunches, but it's their previous model and kit.

It will allow new players to experience what LoL use to be and it will be a nostalgia trip for players who remembered playing the old broken Sion or old pizza feet Taric.

Then, you can choose the Vs Legacy mode, where both teams will be locked in mirror matches, but one team will have the modern incarnation of the champion and the other team will have the original, and summoner's rift will be divided in half, with classic rift on one side and modern rift on the other.

Time isn't binary. There isn't "new vs old". I mean unless you're only going to permit beta champions? Or if you're a real stickler only allow annie?

Also that's a ridiculous amount of work for a gimmick game mode.

You mean like the all Thresh dark hole game mode will brand new assets, that we might see once every couple of months?

And what are you talking about? I'm saying throw Sion's first official incarnation up against Sion's modern incarnation. This game mode is literally copy and paste the stuff in the trash and just throw it in, balance be damned.

Code doesn't work like that. Especially not Riot's spaghetti code. Hell I would be surprised if Riot still HAS all of the old Sion crap lying around.

Does that also mean release Rengar but not release lee despite the fact release Lee is years older than Rengar? Hell just coding rengar's shitty bonetooth back in sounds like agony (but what bonetooth do you use? the trinket or the full item? What Ryze version do you use given that he's had like 4 reworks?).

What brand of the jungle do you use? The worthless Season 1 jungle where champions could barely clear the jungle without dying(How would this work in an old + new map anyway)? The fun season where toplaners took smite just for cinderhulk and counterjungling? I can tell you there's no way Rengar's clearing Season 1 jungle.

Making the new Thresh mode actually takes LESS work than what you're proposing because they start with a clean slate and an obvious vision of what they want rather than "oh man miscellaneous nostalgia".

Why would Rengar be in this game mode? There would be no visual distinction between his incarnations, which eliminates the whole point of this entire concept.

There would be a very small champion pool for this game mode, maybe 20 champions.

URF took the least amount of time and effort, they literally just gave every champion 0 cost abilities and like 80% cdr and set it loose. It wasn't until people started exploiting Karthus, Teemo and Shaco they actually started any kind of balance, and plenty of champions were locked because they were simply broken with that much cdr. It wasn't until the second round of URF did we actually see balanced updates to "fix" that game mode.

I am suggesting the same mentality. Take all the champions who have had major cosmetic updates to them, throw their old code in, pit them against their modern selves and let all hell **break ** loose. Then fix it as problems pop up.

Once again that's not how it works. I mean you have like a 5% chance of NOT having the game simply say fuck you and crash. URF mode is just "give everyone a gamemode level buff that gives them raw stats (no mana costs which were sloppily done anyway and double attack speed bonus are like the only remotely effort requiring thing to implement there except pre-emptively ban Ryze and Kass)". Also I dunno why you're throwing in "just ban champs that aren't balanced" considering you literally just said "only 20 champions" which is garbage enough of a pool as is.

"no visual distinction" So it's only champions that look ugly as fuck that get put in (good news for sivir I guess since she's exactly the same as 'can see her vagina' Sivir of years past). Wonderful news you're basically playing with what amounts to ugly skins and a few badly designed champions that were reworked for a reason.

As for "Legacy vs New" you'd be amused for all of 5 minutes as you go from "aw man AD sion he had so much lifesteal this is gonna be great!!!!" to 5 minutes later after being sodomised by swain/renekton "Oh WOW Sion's fucking worthless in lane no wonder he needed to be reworked" then being stuck for 15 minutes playing quite possibly the worst champion ever conceived.

Also it's worth noting that dark stars "new assets" isn't actually "more work" in a linear sense. The guys who actually create the textures, meshes and background art for the map literally do not touch the game code - Having them create new assets in absolutely no way delays the actual programming of the map. Getting a legacy mode to work? Almost pure code work.

I didn't say they were banned, there would be no banning in this game mode, just like there wasn't any banning in the original URF. Riot just made a point to lock them until they were "balanced" in the next go of URF. Of course, with the flood of reworks and relaunches coming out, the pool of champions for this game mode would get bigger and bigger with every season.

Yeah, you basically hit the nail on the head. Play what is almost the same champion but with an ugly skin, on an ugly map, that is exactly what I want. I would love to play old, dirty, scrawny Trungle again.

I didn't say it would always be a "fun" experience, I just like it as a learning experience for new players and a nostalgia trip for old players, who miss the days of all ap Sion or crit Poppy.

Huh, didn't realize this was a post, I did a whole rant about something like this. Kinda-ish. Good idea though! (Lets just hope that we can get item 3068 , 6 Sunfire capes FTW!)
