Nautilus was betrayed and thrown overboard by his shipmates when their ship was attacked by "the deep." He goes on and on about vengeance. He died by drowning in "the deep."
...Okay, now here me out. What if Nautilus is Pyke's body, and Pyke is Nautilus's soul. Is... is that something that can happen?

Pyke's soul got ripped out of his body. Driven mad with rage and anger, he became the ripper. His body somehow became corrupted or possessed of life in someway and started wandering aimlessly. It's a body without a soul, without it's mind and ego. He is wandering the depths to figure out what he is. WHO he is, and why does he feel so...empty.

Maybe the shadow isles ripped the soul out, but his strong drive to move forward caused Nagakaboros to animate and move the body. The Mother Serpent is about forward flow and movement, never staying stifled. Afterall, Naut is just a deep diving suit.

Pyke is definitely fleshy and probably got his body corrupted by enter magic source here. meanwhile for Nautilus a giant walking armor suit can't exactly be the body. He moreso encompasses the soul part.

well with Evelynn's old lore it was "because she was paid to do it" since she was a "mysterious paid assassin"... but that was all we knew about her. now with Naut it's "he's a mysterious monster that kills people because a god told him to" and that's it... he's in the exact same boat lore-wise that she was XD (which is the point i was trying to get across)
