[Idea] Concept Challenges/Workshops

Ello Concept Community. You know what I think such a creative community could always use more of? Outlets. And don't get me wrong concepts are great! But it's always good to have some other, more unexpected, outlets

I've been thinking that I (and others if they feel so inclined ((hint hint)) could start up some weekly challenges and/or workshops to help stir some creative juices. Now this is separate from my already stated contests and will probably have no prizes, at least in my imagining. They're just there as a challenge to do and help get some ideas flowing.

here's an example:

#Concept Challenge #[X] -Rework: Poppy-

Rework Poppy's kit! Don't include numbers and give a small summary of what you were going for at the beginning of your reply.

or maybe something like this:

#Concept Challenge #[X] -Sing Along-

Here's a random song! [......] Cobble together a champion concept with this as your inspiration!

or even maybe like this:

#Concept Challenge #[X] -Skin: Urgot-

Our poor little abomination of all things living needs another skin! Throw out some ideas for a new skin, feel free to add particle effects, price tiers or anything else of you want!

Challenge Twist: Make it adorable!

So far ideas for challenge 'modes' I have so far....

  • Rework: X
  • Skin: X
  • Theme: X
  • Sing Along
  • Champion from a name (EMOFRATPARTY inspired)
  • Champion from given ability
  • Kit from given lore
  • Lore from given kit
  • Community Creation (TL Pride inspired)
  • Rewrite (Lore): X
  • Rewrite (VO Lines): X
  • Lore Comic (Idea by Omnipherious)
  • Custom game mode (Idea by EMOFRATPARTY)
  • Custom Map Layout (Idea by thefreak321)

Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions about a 'mode'? Tell me below!

Tell me of you'd like to help out as well, if enough people would like I'll whip up a client chat for suggestions for challenges and feedback.

The nice thing about this is that it doesn't honestly take that much time to put together (at least on my end), as it'll be a short post. It just needs a proper schedule and participation imho.

Weekly challenges. Yes. Please. I would help you administer.

Also, game modes.

Lore Comic Take a short excerpt of lore that is canon and have people draw a 1-page comic for it. I'd totally take part in that shit.

Map Concept?

Love the idea, and would be very willing to help out. As for a mode, I think having to make the lore for a skin would be an interesting challenge. Things like "How did Arcade Sona come about?" or things like that. With that as well, since skins are non-canonical, people can go as crazy as they want with the stories. Plus, it gives us writers with no artistic talent another mode we can participate in.

What about a challenge, like say,

"Create a custom champion who is a mage."

Meaning build a champion who is only one role?

To be perfectly honest, I really enjoy inventing stuff like this (I've created around 10 or 20 champion ideas, most of which are more or less balanced), but I always need an idea of what to start with (I usually ask a friend what lane, role, style (snipe from a distance? sustained melee damage? traps everywhere and limited actual contact?), and/or trappings (darkness? fire? plants?) to use, and then go from there)... So yeah, this sounds really interesting.

Question on Future contests of all kinds (though specifically champions, I suppose)

If we come up with a concept to submit, but in the process of making it, realize there exists two GREAT options for something, but only one could possibly be implemented....can we post both? (and if yes...how would it be scored?)

For the sake of an example other than what I'm working with: Say a person creates a champion, finishes the abilities - except for the passive. They have two ideas for the passive, but can not easily pick from one to the other. Is it acceptable to post both in the submission? Perhaps one would need to be selected in the end, but it seems like such a shame to withhold an idea people might really enjoy be hyped about.

This seemed like the best place to put this inquiry, as it could apply to many of the contests being considered.
