Champion Concept - See Enemy Ability CDs, God-like Teen w/ Immortal Concious Sword, Extremely Mobile
Welcome League of Legends community. I would like to share an original champion concept with you all. I will try to keep this as short as possible while still fleshing out all my ideas for what I believe could be a great and unique addition to the games character roster. Please comment below on any suggestions or criticisms of the ideas I have. Thank you!
Introduction
For the past few weeks, I have been thinking about what is missing from this game. I am constantly wondering what could make this game better. I thought to myself about the idea of having a feature that would enable a player to see an enemies ability, item, or summoner spell cooldown. At first the idea seemed to be very extreme and game breaking. However, after fleshing out my thoughts on paper, I believe that I found a way to make this one idea come to life through the form of a new original champion. I currently do not have a name for the champion but I will refer to "them" as "Wing" and "Rock", you'll see why in a moment.
Concept
The concept behind this champion takes two characters that have crossed paths when they both need each other the most. Wing, an angel who has fallen after flying to close to the sun, and Rock, a conciously morphing sword who lead his old user to his doom. Wing and Rock joined forces to battle other foes who dare to challenge themselves or destroy their home. Rock, the morphing sword, has and eye right above the hilt that allows him to see the secrets of others. In-game, this will allow the champion to see the cooldown of enemy abilities. Wing, the fallen angel, is very mobile and understands the laws of combat, he is able to menauver with great speed to dodge attacks and strike powerfully. The two together work as a team to protect themselves and their home from anyone willing to invade it or hurt them. To further explain the in-game functions, I will give an overview of the characters abilities. They will work together similarly to how Kindred is played "Wolf and Lamb / Wing and Rock".
A more in-depth story will be given later in the post.
Abilities
Passive: After using an ability or auto attacking, WAR (Wing and Rock) gain a short burst of movespeed that increases with level. Also, while running back and forth (the left-right-left-right clicking style usually used to keep a champion in place), WAR will become charged with potential movespeed, breaking the clicking routine by then clicking upwards or backwards (or vice versa if the character started up-down-up-down), WAR will be granted decaying movespeed and his next damaging spell or auto attack will deal bonus damage.
This passive will reward players for preforming the common action of clicking back and forth in a quick fashion. Before teamfights, WAR can trigger his passive by walking in place and then be rewarded with movespeed and bonus damage for doing so. His passive is basically a Phage effect, because he is a melee crit fighter, he wont need to build a phage item like Black Cleaver or Trinity Force. I will talk more about itemization later.
Q Ability: For the first activation of the ability, WAR does a short dash to targeted area. The dash should be slightly longer than Lucian's E dash. During or for a brief period after the dash, WAR can reactivate the ability to deal a powerful strike in the targetted direction. Imagine Yasuo's Q but with slightly longer range. The strike is an AoE ability that can critically strike. If an enemy champion is hit with the tip of the sword, it will mark the target. For every auto attack that is preformed, the CD of this ability goes down by one. During the dash part of this ability, WAR is able to flash or strike mid-dash. This allows for fluid and natural character movement.
This ability has the potential to be super useful. It can deal good amounts of damage, and also set up his Ultimate and E ability. WAR's Q provides him good damage and mobility, everything that this champion is about.
W Ability: The passive part of this ability grants WAR out-of-combat movement speed based on bonus attack damage. The active part of this ability causes war to channel for a second. Afterwards WAR will be in a seeking-state. While seeking, he can click on an enemy within the ability range, for example if he were to click on the Orianna while seeking, all of orianna's abilities would replace WAR's normal hud abilities but have a purple haze on them. WAR would then be able to press Q/W/E/R/D/F to see the remaining cooldown. To better explain this, WAR would walk some distance away maybe during a minion wave, press W to start channeling, then press W again on top of an enemy champion. That champions abilities and summoner spells will temporarily replace WAR's but have a dark purple haze on them, WAR can then select one ability by pressing that button on the keyboard. The selected spell would then reveal the remaining cooldown of the ability and after it is revealed, WAR can press W again or simply click on the ground to return back to his normal state. To make sure that WAR doesn't accidentally toggle his own abilities there should be a brief delay coming out of seeking.
This ability will allow WAR to roam and get around quickly because of the passive effect. It also brings something new to League. This ability is super unique and nothing like it currently exists in the game.
E Ability: Similar to Camille, WAR is granted a series of auto attack resets. First part of this ability is a simple auto attack reset, the second part can be triggered immediately after at least one basic auto attack is preformed. The second auto attack reset slows the enemy by 25%. If the enemy is marked, the slow increases to 50%. The final auto attack reset preforms like the second exept it is a guarenteed crit and deals bonus true damage if the enemy is marked. If the enemy is not marked the ability just does a little bit of bonus damage and does not crit.
This is going to be the main damage source of WAR. When WAR dives in or does a one on one duel with someone, he will for sure be using this for most of his damage. If this doesn't finish off the enemy, his Q would probably be off cooldown by the time it's finished. Also the E auto attacks sould be animated as the sword morphing in order to deal an extra stab. So one swing > one morph > another swing > another morph > and upwards swing > and downwards final morph strike.
R/Ultimate Ability: WAR becomes airborne and is able to dash extremely quickly (blink) to any marked target. While airborne, WAR gains bonus attack speed and bonus movement speed (similar to Master Yi). WAR cannot blink to a target if they are not marked, it behaves similar to how Katarina can blink around a dagger. If WAR blinks to a target, the blinks part of the ultimate does not go on cooldown. The way that this ability will work will be like Master Yi and Diana's ultimate combined. The first cast allows WAR to become airborne for a set amount of time. While airborne, WAR can re-cast this ability to dash to a marked enemy champion. He can re-cast his ultimate as many times as he likes as long as he is Airborne. However, he cannot dash to the same target more than once every 5 seconds. Also if WAR kills an enemy while Airborne, the rest of his abilities will be completely reset to allow him to hop right onto the next target.
This ability rewards WAR for landing his Q and allows him to gap close very easily. In teamfights, using his ultimate to shread down a tank quickly and then hop onto a squishy will allow WAR to really shine.
Of course these ideas might be a bit too much, but the hope is to just give all the possibilities of the potential of this character. Now that you know how the character would be played in game, I'm going to give some specifics about the champion design in terms of the theme and attitude of WAR.
Character
First, I'll explain Wings character. He is of course a sword character with movement and flexability. Wing is a god-like angel (similar to Icarus). He is in his late teen years, let's say 16/17, and he has the stereotypical black anime hair. He doesn't like to fly too high because he is scared from a memory of flying too close to the sun and burning his back. He has a burn mark on the back/shoulder of his left arm. He wears a white robe that goes from his right shoulder and covers his belly and wraps around his left waist leaving his arms and shoulders slightly exposed. To make the character have a futeristic god-like feel, he also wears black electric shuffle phat pants with white streaks. Here's a reference image for what I mean, the streaks here are blue: [ https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB12c1JKVXXXXb9XVXXq6xXFXXXy/Free-Shipping-fluoreszierend-DJ-PHAT-Pants-Raver-ore-Techno-Hardstyle-Tanz-Hose-Melbourne-Shuffle-Pants-NEW.jpg ] these types of pants are typically used for a type of dance known as 'Melbourne Shuffle'/'Hardstyle Shuffle'/'Hard Shuffle', it would also be cool to encourperate that dance somehow with the characters animations because he is so mobile. Here is a timestamped video that, I think, best displays what the shuffle is. It's basically just a running man and there are many tutorial videos on how to do it if anyone reading is interested: [ https://youtu.be/qtv4XOfpVR0?t=25s (2:20 and 4:27 are also good examples) ] and [ https://youtu.be/46NN4sbYnOc?t=3m (4:05, 8:00, and 13:07 are also good timestamps)] . Wing also, of course, has two white angel wings on his back. I think that it would be really amazing to see a character in battle who is super mobile, uses a sword, and dances in the air while killing people. His attitude is the typical edgy loner, but he does at least have emotions and works to fight for a purpose.
Next I'll explain Rock's character. Rock is a concious dark purple sword. He is able to morph the blade part of his body to move. He has an eye right above the guard of the sword. The eye exists inside the blade and is able to see outwards. Rock has supreme knowledge of the universe and understands what it truly means to be in existence. Rock uses his supreme knowledge to help guide the still relatively young Wing. He has an attitude similar to Aurelion Sol when it comes to humans and knowledge. Rock used to be a human, but he asked a witch to grant him immortality and ultimate knowledge, but he didn't specify how. She trapped his soul in a sword and now he is stuck in it forever. All he can really do is be concious and think, after thinking for so long he has developed a lot of knowledge about the world. He can communicate through telepathy.
Possible Names: Wing: Aerakami, Xeru, Tsuaeru, Aeria. Rock: Kuushi, Noroi, Tenebroi, Shiki. I personally like Xeru & Kuushi or Xeru & Shiki but these names are just ideas and I made them taking words like Angel, Wing, Aerial for Wing and Dark, Knowledge, Immortal, for Rock. I found the Japanese and Latin translation of each word and combined different Sounds to make the names. Sometimes I even replaced letters.
Story
Rock and his old master were fighting in a dangerous area. Rocks master was slightly fearful of traversing in this area, however, Rock assured him that he would be safe as long as they were together. Long story short, his old master freaked out during battle, dropped Rock, and started to run. The old master ended up dying leaving Rock hopeless and alone. Rock is able to move, but without a weilder, it is difficult for him to fight at his full potential. He was stuck in that area for a couple of days, trying to morph and move to get to a safer spot and to find a weilder. On the other hand, Wing decided to leave his family because of an argument and fly out all over the land for the rest of his days to look for a new home. Wing was feeling extremely confident one day and decided to fly higher than he has ever flown before. He flew so high he even reached the outer spaces, but he wanted to see the earth from far away. He flew but he eventally flew so high that he got burned by the hot sun. He was flying so fast that the feeling of burning came on so quickly that he couldn't react fast enough to avoid intense pain. His back burning hot, he flew back down to earth, but his wings were starting to get tired. He plummeted down and plopped near Rock. Rock noticing the loud thud morphed his way over to the fallen angel and stayed with him while he rested un-concious for days in the dark land. When the godly Wing woke up, Rock was there by his side. Both, having no home and no family, decided to join forces and look for a place to want to protect and call their own. The two legends found Summoners Rift together and now fight to protect their home from anyone who tries to destroy it.
That is the basic story of how these characters met and why they fight. Now I will talk more about in-game itemization and playstyles.
Gameplay
WAR would work best as an AD champion. Imagine Diana, Master Yi, Yasuo, and Camille all combined into one champion. The build that would work best for this champion would be attack speed, damage, critical strike, CDR, and of course movement speed. Some items that I can see working for this champion are Phantom Dancer, Essence Reaver, Guinsoo's Rageblade, Deaths Dance. Other items that might work but be slightly less effective could be: Blade of the Ruined King, Mercurial Scimitar, Maw of the Malmortius, The Hydra Items, Frozen Mallet, and Infinity Edge. I'm not sure if WAR should have mana or not, but I assume Rioters would be able to make that decision better than I can.
WAR in the laning phase would most likely poke around with his Q and attempt to dodge ranged champions spells using the movement speed from the two parts of his passive. When he gets level six, he'll have a better chance to all in enemies and will be a lot more useful in skirmishes. He will also be able to roam in the mid game from the movement speed granted to him from his W's passive. Ganking other lanes with his ult allows for a nice gap close. Late game WAR can split push and then easily re-group with his team also abusing his W. WAR's W ability along with a cloud drake could make for some pretty amazing out of combat movespeed. Also, building an item like mobility boots while far ahead can allow for an easy snowball. In teamfights, WAR has to play like Diana/Master Yi/Yasuo/Kayn. Slowly poke at the front line and wait for a squishy to walk up and hopefully all in them. Because of his true damage, he can chunk the front line. After, he can easily use his mobility to seek the back liners who might have started to flee.
Conclusion
I would personally love to play this champion. I've recently been playing a lot of Master Yi mid lane on my smurf. Although it is really cheesey, it is very very fun. However, because Master Yi isn't ment for the mid lane, I decided to design a champion that plays similarly to Yi and other champions that I really enjoy and that is ment to be played in the mid lane. Hopefully, this post will spark an idea that a Riot champion designer could turn into a reality. I hope that this idea brings something fun, exciting, and new to League of Legends. If this champion concept turns into a playable champion, I hope that I started something that allows many other people to enjoy the game even more.
