Legacy Levels: Leveling past 30 with rewards.
So in the Riot pls that announced new runes and the honor system we have now, Riot said that they were looking to help players complete their champion pool faster so they could focus on strategy and not have a champ pool limit (making free runes also solves limits).
I thought that the level system could use expansion. For example, in Vain Glory (obviously not the best comparison but still acceptable) you unlock ranked at level 10, but can level up to 30 and gain chests along the way.
I thought that a summoner level could function as a "look how long I've been playing the game" flair, similar to masteries, that say "look how much I play this champion". Because at the moment, nobody can tell the difference between a 7-season veteran player and a newbie boosted to 30 by his friends.
Combining the two systems, we could have a level rewards system that gives you champion shards each level with a chance for keys or chests. Honor would increase XP gains as well by 10% per "level" (+10% at level 3, +20% at level 4, +30% at level 5).
It takes 1,340 XP from level 29 to 30. XP would scale linearly after level 30, with the exception of level 31 which would take +660 (2,000 XP) to reach. [29 to 30 takes 1,340. 30 to 31 takes 2,000. 31 to 32 takes 2,100. 32 to 33 takes 2,200. 33 to 34 takes 2,300, etc.]
Each level would grant a mystery champion shard. If someone has every champion owned, they will receive a random skin shard instead. There is a 25% chance (+2% per legacy level) that you will automatically receive the permanent champion/skin [instead of the shard] provided you don't own it. If you do own this item, you will receive a mystery champion/skin.
Hitting Summoner Level 50 (from 23,219 XP at level thirty to 82,389 XP at level fifty) will unlock loading screen flair. Hitting Summoner Level 60 (127,889 XP) will unlock 5 gemstones (too much?). Considering games average at ~120 XP this would take a considerable amount of time (at least 750-1000 games).
Your legacy level will be shown on your profile and when friends hover over you in the friend list.
Note that XP boosts won't apply to this (because it's not fair when people spend money on boosts to get flair; that's not how champion mastery works either).
(Credit to ClAcTiLGoNd) - Players will also receive 20 XP for every game they previously have played past the first 200. After 750 games played this will be reduced to +10 XP, and further halved to +5 XP after 1,500 games. Summonses cannot become higher than level 45 from this bonus. This will allow for real progress instead of veterans automatically getting to level 60 or more, but also give them credit for what they have accomplished.
I will add to this periodically if I think of new ideas. Let me know if there are any more rewards for higher levels.
