PSA: If top / mid lane switching is a good idea, DO IT. Don't be stubborn.

Emerald Fang··33 votes·2,140 views

Lane switching straight up decides the game sometimes.

For example I was Veigar into Zed mid; Kayle top into Heim. Kayle and I switched lanes, and everyone knows Kayle STOMPS Zed. We won the game because she got fed.

Sometimes people in my games refuse to lane swap; they end up feeding sometimes.

So do it for the sake of the game.

In all bluntness, what's stopping them from switching lane as well?

It takes some time and coordination, so even if they do, it'll be delayed. You'll get some advantage for a few minutes, and by then laning phase could be over.

Presumably, the same level of stubbornness that OP is trying to get rid of.

End result, this might end up well if your mid laner has TP. If they do, they can easily serve the role of top lane, much easier. And put the enemy team at a disadvantage if they don't have the same. Otherwise, a mid laner in the top lane will be isolated and unlikely to impact the team if a major teamfight breaks out elsewhere on the map.

Otherwise, it just serves to throw a curve ball. But if that curve ball ended with a good lead, it would probably be worth.

It really depends. Champions like Kayle/Veigar have rather weak TP plays to begin with so not having it top isn't necessarily the worst thing to forgo it top lane if they can simply win lane instead against their opponent. It's why Darius does rather well with Flash+Ghost top over TP because it allows him to be a bit more relevant at all stages of the game instead of potentially following a TP bot just to get kited to oblivion.

i wish Shen mid was a thing. Then i could finally be kind of confident in mid lane.

But yeah. I'll switch anyone in game.

I use to play shen mid alot, old shen was better cause of the ranged q, a bit harder now though.

I was once forced to play Shen mid against a Lux. The jungler camped me but I somehow did well. Rushing a Spirit Visage and Merc treads made Lux's damage laughable and she actually rushed a Void staff out of frustration. Meaning the more I stacked health from there the more fun it was.

Shen mid is honestly a "weaker" Galio if anything. You can just rush MR and sit in lane forever against most mages since you can either shield their poke or shrug it off with a spectre's cowl and such. Also, it isn't like someone like LeBlanc can shove you in and roam bot since you can just follow her with ult if need be (a problem someone like Galio has since his roams are weak).

Kayle doesn't stomp Zed. Um.... what are you on?

Onerios12 votes

Looks fairly good for Kayle from my point of view. Kayle has full control over the lane, being able to outshove Zed at all points of the game and with the range advantage has zoning/stall potential. The sting is taken off zed q poke with her healing, between her slows, speed up, and range advantage she can disengage from most attempts of zed to get into melee. When six comes around they trade ult for ult and kayle comes out ahead. Once laning breaks kayle cuts into zed's assassination potential and provides a significant second dps source for the team so even if he succeeds in taking someone out the fight is not over. It may not be a stomp as zed has a good fall back pattern in splitpushing and with q can always get some farm in lane, but assuming equal skill the kayle is significantly advantaged.

Zed's ult can hit after her ult wears off.

RocketRelm2 votes

No it can't. If it did then Kayle used it incorrectly. Even when used incorrectly, the mark is based on damage Zed deals while the target is marked, which would be mostly when Kayle has the Invuln up.

Zed can just zoidberg back out as soon as he makes Kayle pop ult, but Kayle'll at least get some damage in, and her ult has the shorter cd.

No, sorry stupid. You should try learning how to PLAY league or even try playing a single game before making stupid comments. STOP POSTING. YOU LITERALLY ARE 100% FACTUALLY WRONG. STOP POSTING DUMB SHIT.

Kayle hard counters Zed since he is ult reliant to get kills, and his ult is canceled by kayles ult assuming she is not a totally baboon. Not to mention kayle can waveclear fast so zed has to use energy to push the wave , and kayle should have good mana management . Also she outscales zed hard so late game she will be useful vs zed who will be deemed useless all game because of her.

You clearly have NEVER played League of Legends before. aha h ah ah ah a, what a stupid ass comment.

Just frustrating when enemy constantly swaps to match it, and then nobody in the game has any gold or EXP

Lauchmelder1 votes

I actually like this outcome. If you got a half competent botlane they'll carry those games.

6Sfool2 votes

There have been times when I insist that botlane switch with me, and I take velkoz bot alone. Works pretty well if the enemy adc got fed but they have no hard engage. Unless it's a hard counter, I usually only swap if the enemy is starting to snowball and my teammate doesn't know how to play passive.

LANE SWITCHING IN 2016 LUL

46313 votes

Lets not jump to conclusions here brother.

It's correct, if you're being countered, it might be a good idea to swap lanes.

TeCoolMage1 votes

I don't know why but I used to never swap lanes, but one day I was suddenly like, "Hey top/mid, want to swap?"

So I started swapping lanes a LOT, but for some odd reason the enemy kept swapping lanes too. I started seeing stuff like Nasus mid and Zed top

Eventually I stopped because there was less and less of a reason for me to do so, maybe by chance or because I was getting better at my champ and didn't care much about matchups any more, idk. Suddenly the enemy team stopped lane swapping as well.

You don't decide what I should do.

Exactly. You do. So don't be stupid and swap if you think you're going to lose.

A long time ago in a patch far away, when Yorick had just his first wave of nerfs and still was unbeateable top. I was winning vs Olaf while our Cassio was 0-4/5 against LB. I offered swap and stacked some MR resulting to LB managing to bring me to 30% only to heal it back within a wave. It was glorius and tilting for a fed LB to do a full burst with ignite and see all the work gone. Meanwhile, Cassio was freefarming top, i was an undying frontline at the skirmishes for dragon/tower while we were securing them. Lately Cassio was farmed as hell (got some solo kills also) became a monster and we easily won that match. And LB was salty. Much salty.

You are Bronze 5, to be honest I am surprised that anyone on your team even thought about lane swapping.

SnowFall1 votes

Speaking from my experience, I never won a game in which lane switching occured on my team

statelesskiller1 votes

i am a gangplank main, my duo partner is a ryze main, we literally just swap between top and mid with whatever matchup is better for who, typically its pretty freelo for us so long as yoloque doesnt happen . . .which . . . it always does

VoidStaresBack1 votes

I've swapped once and it turned out ridiculously well: Miss Fortune was mercilessly bullying me and apparently my Fiora top was getting dicked on by Swain, so we swapped at around five minutes and I proceeded to go 5/0/0 by the end of laning phase (I'm not sure the Swain knew how to fight Cho'Gath).

Of course our jungle ragequit after his third stupid decision ended in his death and we surrendered at twenty minutes because we didn't think we had a chance of winning, but lane swaps can definitely work out if properly executed, just so long as your enemy laners don't think to swap as well.

THE AMOUNT OF FUCKING STUPID PLAYERS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS VERY VERY VERY SIMPLE FUCKING CONCEPT IS ASTOUNDING.

I GET FLAMED IN GAME BECAUSE MY TEAM MATES ARE TO FUCKING STUPID TO UNDERSTAND SIMPLE CONCEPTS LIKE THIS. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS, YOU HAVE A LOW FUCKING IQ.
