into the Academy au, but Riot said no.
Sure, the skins take a lot of artistic effort, and being quite honest, they're pretty nice looking, but don't say that "the artist think that-" because that's not how it works.
The artists are, after all, under a contract, and Riot is a business, people are right to be mad about some of this choices, like Lux, Ezreal and Katarina, because they're clearly push by Rito to make more sales.
Doge20201 votesI was saying it more as a generalistic look at everything, not just the art but the design of the game as a whole. I was basically taking bits of the Sekiro easy mode debate and making it fit this topic, I thought that the choice part was a good point but I stand corrected.
I still stand by the idea that the artist/designer has a choice, so if it actually is true that Riot as a business is deciding which champs get which skins then I think that should change

As an artist myself, I can assure you that working again and again on the same stuff tends to be boring, i don't think many of the artists are happy with having to work on a new Lux skin every single year, but Lux is incredibly popular,her skins sell like crazy and she is super popular, a champion easy to catch up, with a fairly safe kit of abilities, but still needs some skill and can fit into almost any team comp because of her CC.
Lux skins sell like hot bread, so do Ezreal's, is all marketing in the end.

I think I was watching some video on the Sekiro “easy mode” debate so I was still in that mindset, I completely forgot that usually Leagues skins don’t follow the original champ’s story/description at all.
I agree with everybody about all of your points. I just want to make it clear that what I said was my point for something like forcing a developer to add easy mode on a game like Sekiro or God of War when the developers intended to not have difficulty settings on purpose. Just so y’all know difficulty settings, like easy, normal, or hard modes is far more different than accessibility. Accessibility is basically just opening more doors for more people to play and enjoy a game, while difficulty can change the pace/feeling of the game to (potentially) make it easier or harder. For some games it’s fine to have a difficulty setting because they could be more story based with combat being a second thought in the game, but for Sekiro that is not the case because that game is all about the combat and the entire idea that the devs want you to struggle for each victory and learn from every defeat.
Sorry for that rant on the Sekiro thing lol. I care deeply for the freedom of amazing developers of SINGLE PLAYER GAMES. Multiplayer games I don’t really give a shit about because those are mainly money grabs for greedy companies.

I'm afraid that Riot is focused too much on ready money when it would be healthier to go for passion of its employees, loss leaders, and avoiding oversaturation with popular heroes.

Viktor honestly should have been the scientist/teacher. Taliyah would fit fine into this, and Taliyah was actually relevant last year but still got no skin even though she dominated high elo jgles. To top it off, if people keep getting into the mindset of "it's their game let them do whatever they want" that's like forgetting this game is SUPPORTED by your money and that riot caters to consumers, but you guys just give in for the same shiny skins of the same champion over and over.

I was looking at it like a God Of War or Sekiro type of thing, where almost everything in the game (like damage numbers, difficulty, and mainly story/character development) has to be perfect on release. I wasn’t looking at it from a live service standpoint where skins and such make no sense and usually have no actual connection to the original champion.
I ADMIT IT I WAS WRONG!!! My standpoint is very true for triple A games, especially single player games, like God of War, Sekiro and Cyberpunk2077. The entire debate around Sekiro was the fact that people were demanding developer team From Software to add a difficulty setting to Sekiro. Covering every single side would take too long so here is my TL:DR; in the case of Sekiro they don’t have to add a difficulty setting to their game because everything in it is balanced around one universal “difficulty”. From Software made the difficulty setting of Sekiro as a form of art in their game and in this case nobody can force them to add a difficulty slider. adding a difficulty setting takes lots of time, money and manpower because almost everything in the game (such as damage output of enemies and damage of players weapons) have to be adjusted and tested. And btw From Software is the same developer team that created the grueling series “Dark Souls” which is famous for these games being extremely difficult and hard to play.
In the case of League and it’s skins then I AGREE WITH YOU. I honestly forgot for a second how ridiculous Leagues skins can be when I wrote that and I apologize lol. What I was talking about was a different discussion for a different game lol

If the artists think that ezreal, even though he has like 20 skins, better fits the battle academia skin line then the artist is allowed to make one for ezreal. And honestly some champions fit better in some skin lines/concepts better than others, imagine
in this battle academia skin line or in the “school group” skin line that we have currently. it just doesn’t make sense, right? Aurelion sol’s concept and identity doesn’t fit that skin line and there is no way that the artists can implement this type of skin into the game without fundamentally changing the identity of Aurelion sol or his actual gameplay kit.
On the flip side I don’t think this is an excuse for the art team to NOT make skins on the half of the roster that don’t have a lot of skins or haven’t received new ones in a long time. I agree that a lot of champs should get new skins, I am also saying that Riot needs to make sure that the skins for those champs needs to make sense and that they can’t do a lazy skin for a champ that doesn’t fit the skin line in appearance, in their identity/background or in the look of the champ’s abilities.
Where the Hell did you get this info from? I think the artists job is to develop/draw the skin, not decide who gets them.

is kind of there, 05/21/15, but technically still has 7 alternate skins... which is a lot in comparison.
Now given, this skin line isn't exactly fit for many of the other champs... but it could work for either Zil Taric or Ornn to be the teacher, and Kalista to be a student. Shaco could also be a funny student to have. They could also bench the idea until they make better skins for other champions, like most normal people would do, or at least like I would.
Rito is not hurting for money.
TacoComes2 votesThere are 42 champions who were released in 2009 who all have atleast 6 skins and most 9.. Doesn’t mean they should stop recieving skins. Half of the skins they have are either model skins and/or legacy, but i do agree the champions you mentioned deserve skins. The champions you listed i guess could fit into this skinline, but would work way better into other skinlines
Lux only had 2 “good” skins until she got elementalist lux. (steel legion and star guardian) After that everyone complained that she already has so many skins.
You also said you hated the definitely not skin velkoz has, I also hate 6 of the model skins kat has, they only make kat liable to people complaining about her getting too many skins.

Mr Voidling1 votesWell it's not that any champion should stop receiving skins, but proportional skins would be nice. Champs should get 1 new skin every 1-2 years. not 2 skins in 1 year, or no skins in 3-4 years. So how long a champ has been out and their play-rate should both tie into how many skins they have. Ez has more skins than years League has been around, coming out in 2010 he should at most have 9 alternate skins in total. 10 alternate skins max for the OG champs like Alistar. This would help distribute skins more evenly, and give players hope that their main champ WILL get a skin eventually. 144 champs / 2 / 12 = 6 skins every month if each champ got 1 skin every 2 years, or 3 skins every 2 weeks. Pretty darn possible with a company the size of Rito.
Immaterial1 votesI remember a while ago, Riot gave a statement that they choose champions based on whether they'll fit the theme rather than if they have less skins than others. Due to artist restraints they dont just pick a champ with little skins and give them a skin because SKINS!! That would take time in both design and art trying to figure out which skin line would they fit best, do we make a new skin line, how much detail should we put in, are they a transformer, etc. Seeing as their art team doesn't make up 20% of their work force, making 6 unique skins a month is asking a LOT. Keep in mind their art team that does skins is also the art team for reworks, tweaks, vfx updates, new champs, and sometimes music videos.
Due to Yuumi's release skin being an academy skin, they wanted to "hype up" (advertise in a way) Yuumi. So they chose champions in each position that fit the theme. It's unfortunate but peppy champs like Ez, Kat, and Lux fit a lot of themes that people seem to like.

Where's the Viktor skin? Where's the Kayn skin? It's going to take newer champions YEARS to accumulate even FIVE skins and they stack on skin after skin for the same champs. It's making me tired. I'm not going to say the Battle Academy skins are bad, THEY ARE GREAT. But that is the problem, they are great, however, we do not need them right now. If riot dished out skin after skin for champs who have barely any skins NOBODY WOULD COMPLAIN, and they'd sell. That is a fact.

I usually criticise Riot for not just going for low hanging fruit when it comes to skin concepts, but they went way too low for these skins. Katarina, Lux, Ezreal and Graves have no business receiving new skins when they have 9+ each already.
