So I'm playing the new Riven skin because its beautiful but..

Im still learning Riven.

I know i am not good, i have I just got tier 4 mastery, and thats kinda cool.

Im vsing another Riven with 500k mastery.

You do not need to:

-Flame me when she out plays me -Flame me when i get ganked and you have no provided any support or suggestions

  • Flame me for messing up a combo (because i use mages, and riven is a whole different play style for me)
  • Tell me to kill myself because I'm learning
  • Become overly toxic in a normal

TL;DR Its a normal, people play them to learn and have fun. Telling people to kill themselves because they want to try a new champion is just unreal.

Forge on! Haters gonna hate.

Even top Riven players mess up from time to time. There's no good reason to be toxic - there's always a better option. Ignore 'em and level up your game. :)

Kind-of wondering. What's "HRIS/Payroll Administrator's" job?

Mansana2 votes

I'm guessing he manages the system that automaticly pays dividends to employee bank accounts online and/or the person who hands the payday check to those who still like seeing that signed certificate of monetary value.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Oh okay. So he's basically doing the printer's job at the cashier. :)

Decrit1 votes

... no, just no.

IDK the specifics of the job, but managing an automated system does not mean just "oh look at it go".

that was very indelicate of you, lemme say that xP

rtbf2256182412 votes

It was a joke. Relax.

I'm pretty sure if it was that simple, he would be replaced with the machine i was comparing it to.

In theory, I'm the person that is replacing the manual tasks with technology. My best suggestion in these times is to be the person who knows and empathizes with the work so you know how to be a solutions architect (which is probably the closest title I can think of as to what I actually do). I translate functional and technical need into an actionable plan with our systems team, and then help deliver the solutions and support it as need arises.

One could argue that that is a typical IT Engineer's responsibilities, and you'd be absolutely right. Talent systems solutions vary from company to company - sometimes it falls under IT and sometimes it falls under HR/Talent. I make the argument that having it fall under Talent sets the team up for success much better, since you are working directly with your customers - those that are using your solutions and the best points for your feedback loop. The closer you are to the problems, the better you'll be able to design solutions for them.

At Riot Fenyx's oath

"I am the Admin in the dark. The Watcher on the servers. I guard the realms of Riot Services and by doing so am the protector of Runeterra."

Kindlejack:"Rise!"

He blesses him with a T-shirt that has a Riot logo and a Wrench on it.

Kindle:"You're on of us now." As he teleports to a catastrophe area in EUW where lag has taken over.

"50 000 people used to play here. Now it's a ghost town."

OH man, that's a really old title! Was one of those titles when you hire a mix between technical support and engineer, but they're dedicated to Talent/HR.

My current title is Systems Administrator - I just happen to work with developing/implementing technical solutions for our internal staff - to keep the company running. Business continuity and all that.

Also as Kindlejack says, to make sure he gets sunlight and to make great, pun-worthy skins.

So you're the reason why all off Riot's business decisions are revolved around equipping 6 Talismans during Events. >_<

just kidding. I imagine it's similar to being an accountant/manager i guess.

Haha, nah not so much! I develop/code/configure depending on what the job calls for. I code very seldom, but when I do it's mostly to tinker with XML/SQL/RAML/Java/Perl/Javascript and such. Lots of web-focused languages and some static languages.

My main mission though is more around business technology strategy for Talent and supporting our key systems that keep the lights on - stuff like your HRIS, Payroll, Comp, and so on. I also work with our infrastructure engineers to explain what data we have, the process in place and how that gets surfaced through API's and consumed by our other internal intranet applications.

It's pretty cool because it's a pretty young company with a LOT of talented people who are building the unique, quality of life applications that help make Riot an awesome place to work.

rtbf2256182411 votes

I see. So you're kinda like the infrastructure guy behind all the stuff that handles the paperwork.

Velkoz Intriguing.

And ofcourse it's young, but it certainly speeds things up i suppose.

During development a lot of the team working on the Riven skin also picked her up and tried to learn her in order to do the skin justice and really understand what's important. It was a long hard road and we lost many good people along the way...

I remember in particular the character artist for Riven, who dutifully laned against the pre-alpha Camille build which was suuuuper op.

Bârd1 votes

You wouldn't happen to have any juicy details on the alpha Camille, would you?

RiotKindlejack8 votes

My team was working on the launch skin - our testing was for bugs and clipping etc, although if you're lucky one of the champ team might come out of the woodwork. There was some interesting exploration around what gadgets she would use and the balance between human and machine.

Oblivious Denial10 votes

I have level 7 and around 236k mastery on Riven and I still get flamed from time to time like "Boosted to lvl 7?" and "You're lvl 7, you should be better" etc.

This is probably why Riven mains are known for being toxic; because everyone else treats them like shit and are assholes whenever they see one, so the Riven tilts and flames.

Laxfan524 votes

I got mastery 6 heimer but i dont play him that often anymore. I played him recently and did kinda bad and got flamed for it. I think people assume that lv 7 mastery champs would go 10-0

Mhihnj3 votes

124k mastery thresh but i still miss one or two hooks sometimes. The moment I miss one, The missing pings start spamming like crazy. And if I hit a madlife hook, nobody notices

Myrkrvaldyr3 votes

Because it's easier to notice mistakes than good plays. Rare is the occasion when a team mate praises your good plays.

I'd tell you to go to normal draft instead of blind pick, to avoid mirror lanes in the future but, 10 bans mean you'll probably never get Riven anyway.

actually, riven isn't banned hell of a lot like yasuo is. i've played her at least 20 times today

Arcus Diabolus5 votes

If there is anything I learned in the years I've been playing League, its that due to the unreasonable hate Yasuo, Riven, Lee, Vayne and whoever else gets on a daily basis, those mains typically end up either massively toxic right back or unapologetically thick skinned.

Don't let it bother you that much. They'll give you shit no matter what you do, so try to fall into the thick skinned side of things.

DRAGOON Burst3 votes

I would like to suggest watching boxbox on Twitch. He is a Riven main in high divisions (Diamond or so). He's very friendly and you can watch him to learn some moves. He also messes up time to time on his Riven plays, Riot Fenyx says.

rengar vore2 votes

If you are learning a new champ just mute all at the beginning of the game so you don't have to deal with the flamers. Then when you are decent at the champ you can play with everyone unmuted.

Oblivious Denial2 votes

Or just mute all as a general rule for all matches, esp ones that might tilt you (losing match ups for the majority of the map, bad late game, poor communication from the others in champ select, etc).

MagikarpIsBoss2 votes

If you truly want to get good at riven, don't give up at all. People do this shit all the time to people, regardless of how experienced they are.

Just don't straight up int if you don't know what you're doing. I faced a Riven last game who decided it was a good idea to go full lethality into a rammus top and had like 15ish deaths. Don't be like that guy.
