Requesting new ultimate that can bounce off walls.

Cansema··46 votes·4,840 views

alright.. ability travels only a set distance (think about the range of xerath's ult) the ability can bounce off walls the ability can go thru champions and minions and neutral monsters.

why i think something like this is viable and unique: we have champions with wall interactions whether they hook to it (Nautilus ) or collide into it (Sion ) but we dont really have a interaction of bouncing off walls. when i thought of this i was trying to steal dragon.. and it didnt go as planned then i had a thought.. what if i had an ability i could shoot in there and it bounce off all the walls shredding whatever is inside of the dragon pit. although it is an ability with limited range .. i feel this can have an effect of people working with angles and bounce the ability off walls and around corners.

i dont have any art program on this computer but if i could draw lines within the dragon pit i would to give a visual idea of angles to help people who cant see an idea in their head.

yeah.. added interaction would be Trundle pillar and Anivia wall.. but that can either be an additional skill to pull off or could block this ability.. so much potential for champion interactions.

If you are an ADC and you want more options.. please up vote and get this idea visible to Riot and their team.

Gotta admit though, it'd be pretty cool ^_^

aaronconlin1 votes

For sure, it's a cool concept and it could give some awesome play potential shooting skillshots off walls

Varkrey1 votes

As long as it's consistent and cannot go THROUGH any walls whatsoever, yeah, sounds cool.

If J4 ults you should have to be inside J4's ult to use the ability, otherwise it's just no fun.

Gavran2 votes

Yes, but if J4 times his ult perfectly to trap the ability inside his ult...

Or if an enemy J4 jumps on you as soon as you start casting it to keep it away from his team...

:D

Damage would have to drop off if it hits the same target multiple times.

Damage would have to drop off if it hits the same target multiple times.

Definitely. I'd also make the champion be the projectile, and still subject to damage and whatnot. This would make the champion vulnerable while using it, balancing it out a bit.

Might make it a bit too similar to Zac no?

Might make it a bit too similar to Zac no?

Possibly, depending on how it's done. A good concept for this might even be a leaner, evil Zac that Zaun tried remaking. Who knows?

There are worse Wombo combos. Ones that don't require a Squish to be locked into a cage with 3+ members of the enemy team to be worth it.

aaronconlin1 votes

Wouldn't have to be locked in with anyone else if the ability bounces off the walls onto you, I guess it depends on how many bounces it could do

Malphite + Orianna + Yasuo + MonkeyKing + Viktor

Only the person with this ult would also have to be inside the j4 ult, otherwise it would just bounce off the outside. Seeing as how the user of said ult would likely be some kind of a mage, that situation would be less than ideal ^^; but awesome nonetheless

you know.. i never thought of that.. if J4 ults this adc.. the ult would bounce all around inside his ult.. if it was same team.. then it would just bounce off the back end and make a sad adc.

So almost like a Velkoz Q, but more math involved.

So this champ would require in game skill and math skills... Rito please

Nah, there isn't do much math involved. This is more like pool or billards.

Anyway maths is cool... I think. In the legends of fore, I heard that mathematicians were able to spell BOOBIES on their calculators with some kind of wizard magic.

This is such a beautiful idea O_O

Mind if I incorporate in a champion concept?

OhthePiplup1 votes

I might try to make a concept off this too xD

love it! Maybe the champion could be a pinball wizard. ;D

I'd rather have this on a mage than an AD, but maybe that's because I just like mages better :/

This may be perceived as a shameless self-promotion, but I thought through an entire kit revolving around reflecting skillshots.

Her name is Demura, and she spawns mirrors to ricochet her own abilities to double/triple down on their effectiveness.

Ancestor0071 votes

I wanted someone like that for so long

Nameless Hero1 votes

This may be perceived as shameless self-promotion based on someone else's shameless promotion but there was a champion concept that was posted recently with a bouncing ultimate. Her name is Su and she's a battle calligrapher with a ricocheting dragon. I don't know who designed her but he sounds really handsome :3

But yeah, Lutz had that game mechanic submitted ages ago, glad to see that it's getting interest once more.

Ha! How coincidental and kind of hilariously awesome. If you go to the bottom of Su's concept page, I'm credited as the original source of inspiration for that concept, too. :p

P.S. Yes I'm just playing along with the joke. ;)

Penta Penguin2 votes

I would make it global range, with a short range after bounce, maximum 5 bounces.

Since it can't go through walls like most globals, it might not be too bad to have it global

New Zac Style champ? Maybe a basic ability that shoots a bouncing glob (not global), then his Ult launches himself (global)

Thresh 2 Fresh1 votes

That is really cool. Interestingly enough i came up with a concept like this the other day. Except that the champ made mirror walls and would bounce his attacks off each one. The gameplay was revolved around setting up walls that you could create combos with.

A bouncing Q skill shot that explodes on impact with an enemy, doing more damage for each bounce at a max of 4 bounces before it disappears, with a fairly high cool down but will rest if you hit an enemy or catch it, no cc but have a small AOE range for decreased damage to nearby enemies

Give it a medium range before it disappears( no bouncing all the way down river lol)

This is a pretty terrible idea, and I'll tell you why. It's INCREDIBLY easy to abuse. There is absolutely no way people aren't going to abuse this if it became a thing.

It's not hard to imagine people taking 2-3 Ranged champions simply to have this. APC Ezreal, maybe ADC Caitlyn. Possibly topped off by Support Lulu, and Top Lane Gnar. This is immediately problem from its concept stages, because you know everyone is willing to abuse something like this.

The only way I would ever see this being an okay thing, would be if not only did it reduce its damage by dropping to 50 then 25, 0, but if there was a trade off to this. Like building an item with pretty much no stats, just a small shitty support like item that gives you a bare minimal of everything. That way there's at least that trade between a Damage item for a Utility item. Otherwise can you not just imagine Ezreal blazing his Q in there, about once every 2 seconds because he can? Each one dealing an approximate 400 damage on initial impact, a total of 700 Possible?

Honestly this would need to have a lot of limitations. Like certain skill shots only bounce until they hit someone. Or others can only bounce twice before the vanish. Not to mention this poses a challenge to skill shots that go through champs, Only a limited number of champions have skill shots that actually only hit 1 target.

It's a nice idea, but it has a tremendous amount of issues.

i want you to look at the other champs coming out.. and tell me this.. are any of them OP in anyway?

the OP is what will separate one champ from the other.. the chance to do something different.

Shield Villain1 votes

That's not the point. All champs have something they're good at, some are heavily unbalanced. Just because kalista's mobility is broken as all hell, doesn't mean we should give every ADC something to tip them to her. Instead we should focus on the problem, not find a complex solution that possibly won't fix anything.

This still doesn't invalidate my view. As it stands, even if it's a chance to do something new and unique, it's very reckless.

I can just see the Camps already. Not only that, it creates an extreme amount of complexity in coding. You'd have so much to do, it's way easier to just add some new items or buff some champs, than rework an entire mechanic that can collapse the game.

It's a big To Do List:

  1. Figure out which skill shots will interact with this mechanic. How will Single Target Skill Shots interact with this? How will Multi-target Skill Shots interact with this?

  2. What will be the downsides to having this, if any? What kind of Down Scale will this have, if any?

  3. What surfaces will have this interaction?

  • What if you don't want to have this interaction?
  • How will this function with Skill shots you want to go through walls?
  1. How will this effect Jungle Camps? Reduced Damage?

  2. Program all this into the game. Sort out EVERY skill shot in the game after careful planning. Then go into the code and begin programming (Easily the most time consuming part.)

It's really unrealistic to apply this mechanic. Way too many things to figure out, and as the Meta changes it may become either extremely powerful, or not as amazing.

i really feel you are making this more complicated than it actual is. simply put a degree based on the angle when it hits a wall.
using the existing code for the wall just use that.

to point out some tricks programmers used in league.. random trivia .. xeraths ability use to be coded as minions so when he hit you it was basically being hit by minions.. then tryndamir figured out he could whirlwind in it and level. (patched now.. no whirlwind in his ability anymore.. sorry) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nAm_JC2f1E

yeah.. it may take some coding ... but creativity is what separates one programmer from another. and trying to full balance a game? its all based on opinion what is balance. i would honestly tone down afew champions and tweak the champion i like slightly because i still feel shes under powered.. but not to get into that.

this will be on the ult.. and if you want to farm the jungle.. fine farm with it .. Ez farms with his ult.. ziggs does too.. i dont see a problem with it..

but the ability is simple.. shoot it and it bounces off things.. shoot a turret .. it bounces off turret.. shoot a champion wall.. it bounces off champion wall.

hit mob/champion.. goes thru them and does damage

set distance .

call it good..

FantasySniper1 votes

I don't think this is a good idea.

Last I saw, the visuals on the map don't even properly mesh with the collision, so there's no way this would ever be balanced because of how difficult inconsistent it would be to use.

Nameless Hero1 votes

Alright, you have a valid point, I never thought of that.

It might be really frustrating if it's on quickcast but considering the technical progress that they achieved with Bard's Magical Journey it shouldn't be too much of a technical upgrade to implement ricocheting mechanics.

Secondly, on the subject of consistency, Riot has tons of casting indicators. If the cast indicator changed indicate the reflecting angle it should make the casting much more predictable and consistent. It would be like the trajectory indicators on Pool/billards simulators.

FantasySniper1 votes

Getting people to go through walls isn't hard.

Getting things to bounce off of them is. Especially when a single mistake in the collision mapping could be exploited by or ruin the mechanic.

I had an idea for a champion awhile back, never could come up with a full kit, more of a gunslinger with a single pistol he'd quickdraw, ult was a directional shot, that would pierce if it hit a champion and bounce if it hit a wall, gaining projectile speed and damage per pierce/bounce

Q was a reaction shot, if an enemy used a skill near him while it was active, he would instantly react and shoot/silence them W was tactical retreat, faces a direction like lucian ult, and backs up quickly constantly laying fire between him and the original spot could never settle on something for E, i had revolvers end, fully emptying his pistol on a single spot, didn't want it to be a point and click = instant hit ability, where he'd plant his feet and unload 6 shots on a single spot or had it spray in a fan style but in an area like anivia's wall rather than a full cone. and you already saw the ult i had planned...had no clue what to use for a passive....but this was ages ago when i had created a few champions before the boards changed

The champion could be a projectile champion and its other abilities could send it flying without bouncing or make it better while bouncing, and im thinking it would be good as a tank

Cansema1 votes

i dont make full champions because i feel riot will never use them.. but if i give pieces of them .. maybe something along the same idea may come out.. but for those that feel that they would like to try and promote this thru their full concept champions.. feel free to build off this.. its a forum and i have no control over any champions that actual get made.

That would be pretty awesome. Imagine an ezreal ult that bounces off walls.
