Honestly, in my opinion, I don't really think it fulfils the Darkin theme fantasy very well. I couldn't even tell she was a Darkin. If anything, it looks more like a Diana skin than anything else. No offence. Just my insight.

Yeah it's fair enough, it might not match the usual elements we are used to when it comes to the art style of the Darkin but it's a small visual that we can look at as a refence at the very least.

The next Darkin might actually be Morgana. She triggers Darkin voice lines.

BLIGHTBRINGER1 votes

It could be but I doubt that Riot would just completely remove her relations to Kayle and all.

Who said they would?

Morgana and Kayle can both be darkin but Kayle over came the power of the darkin, but Morgana is still fighting to over come it. https://giphy.com/gifs/excited-screaming-jonah-hill-5GoVLqeAOo6PK

BLIGHTBRINGER1 votes

Not to offend anyone or anything, but I wouldn't want Morgana to be a Darkin. I guess the reason why is because I dispise Morgana as a champion. I don't know, I guess I just want someone new ;l

That’s fair.

While I personally dislike the implication that Morgana may own a Darkin weapon in some distant future, we must consider some other factors as to HOW this can be a possibility.

First, if you read Varus' newer story, it discusses the history of the Darkin. They were an invading alien species, from long before anyone can remember, that breached into Runterra on some cosmic bridge from their home dimension. They devastated the land and the people, and were on the brink of victory. Then, the story notes that a queen in golden armor led her armies against the Darkin, using the bow her mages had trapped Varus in, and actually proved victorious, destroying their gateway bridge and blocking their access to and from Runterra. The remaining Darkin trapped in Runterra were either flat out killed by her or trapped in weapons, of which she sealed away around the world...

To the naked eye, a fiery queen in golden armor sounds remarkably like Kayle. From what we know of Kayle, she's one track minded - and while not stupid, she's not the type to be using magic that's more involved than smiting enemies. Her sister, Morgana, was the magic user. From what we know of their current lore, Morgana and Kayle were engaged in an ancient fight, and Morgana eventually turned to dark magics used by her enemies in order to turn the tide of war, which caused Kayle to disown her and lump her in with the dark infidels. This can be applied to the Darkin War - especially if we consider the theory that it wasn't Kayle, but instead Morgana, who devised the method of sealing the Darkin into weapons. If we roughly apply the old story's general plot, we get this: Kayle and Morgana are ancient beings in Runterra, fighting in an ancient war against the Darkin, which they are slowly losing. On the cusp of defeat, Morgana, being a crafty sorceress, discovers a way to entrap Darkin in weapons or objects, which can then be used to channel the Darkin power for the wielder to use. If Morgana then presents this discovery to Kayle, along with a prototype Darkin weapon that she possesses, along with the proposition of using these weapons in the war against the Darkin, I could see this as being the catalyst of tearing the sisters apart. Especially so if there is the discovery that the Darkin in the weapons can overpower Kayle's troops with weak wills, and cause chaos in her ranks and cost her lives and battles in the process. I think this would be enough to cause Kayle to HATE Morgana and disown her and throw her in with the enemy.

Just a theory, but it would still give Kayle and Morgana their intense sibling rivalry while also tying Morgana to the Darkin.

This makes sense. I, personally, don't want Kayle and/or Morgana to be darkins, but I'd be OK with this.

Oleandervine2 votes

As I said, I'm not partial to it either. But as long as Morgana isn't the ACTUAL Darkin, I think I'd be ok with it too. I want her to be the inventive dark sorceress she's always been, and my theory would preserve that.

If she must possess a Darkin weapon, I would prefer she possess one she has utterly overpowered to the point of obliterating the Darkin mind inside (like how Rhaast is obliterated if Kayn chooses Shadow Form, but still can channel the power of the weapon).

Lloyd Castagnier1 votes

I know. I would be OK if they turned into what you have in mind, I just don't want them to be related in any way to darkins. They're "angels" from a different universe, they should work with that and stick to it if possible. But I don't think they'll keep it for the update.

INB4, Aspect of Justice and Aspect of Sin.

Pls, no.

Oleandervine1 votes

I don't think they'll keep the angel from a different universe appeal, I think they're trying to minimize how many cosmic intruders there are that just keep cropping up in the affairs of Runeterra. I think they'll probably be some form of early humans that are enchanted from their connections to heavy magics that were used during the Rune Wars (which I think is implied to be what attracted the Darkin's attention to Runeterra).

Also, I too would despise the Aspect angle. Especially an Aspect of Sin, as sin is a strictly Judeo-Christian-Islamic creation.

Lloyd Castagnier1 votes

Yeah, I noticed that too. They'll end up being people from Runeterra in the wrong place at the wrong time and then bam, got powers.

At least they'll still be sisters.

Talking about the Rune Wars. Renekton is the only one that has a skin related to it (I love it, that's why I know). We need a whole patch of the rune wars and the world runes and what happened and how it affects the world now. Completely off topic, I know, but the story of Runeterra and the little I know about it drives me insane.

Back to the sisters, let's see what happens. Hopefully, nothing to do with darkins.

[slayer-jinx-catface]

Oleandervine1 votes

Well, Ryze and Evelynn both have lore that discusses the Rune Wars. Ryze for obvious reasons, Evelynn from being born during the suffering that occurred during the war. So they haven't forgotten about it.

I do think Renekton's skin is a thing from an obsolete past of the game, back when the Rune Wars was more recent, since it was what resulted in the Institute of War and Summoners being a thing. Now that the Rune Wars is ANCIENT history, I think his skin probably needs to be renamed and refitted into another skin line since it no longer canonically makes sense.

I dislike the idea of them making Morgana a Darkin because of all the champions from way back from the old lore when many champs were just ported in from other dimensions, Morgana and Kayle being from another dimension still feels like it would fit with the new lore to me.

I've always felt the underlying themes core ideals for Kayle were order/justice and Morgana was chaos or personal freedom. Depending on your interpretation of the Lawful/Neutral/Chaos and Good/Neutral/Evil alignment grid, Kayle would sit somewhere Lawful Good/Neutral and Morgana would sit somewhere on the Chaotic side (but probably not evil - that tends to be reserved for people looking to increase their own power at any cost)

Anyway, if you consider their motivations (as we currently know them) how would you incorporate more of that into your idea of an updated bio of them (which I like a lot, by the way)? If I recall, Kayle was a battle-hardened leader, but the cost of war took a heavy toll on her and she covered her face because she hated the pain and suffering it caused. Morgana broke ties with her sister because she argued against such a strict code that approached tyranny. I get that story might change, but the very opposing views the sisters have in terms of alignment is key and core to their personalities and conflict.

Oleandervine1 votes

Well, it would really have to boil down to Kayle's belief about the Darkin. In the theory I proposed, Kayle would DESPISE the Darkin, and would consider any collusion with them to be heresy. Morgana, meanwhile, would be trying to find a way to stop the invasion without resorting to flat out armies and warfare, which would be her creation of the Darkin weapons in my theory. If Kayle initially gave it a chance, not thinking the Darkin could escape, that's feasible, but once she realized Morgana's weaponization of the Darkin is flawed, AND if Morgana is using a Darkin weapon herself, she would equate that to Morgana being corrupted by the Darkin inside a weapon, thus her "justice" and tyrannical side would emerge in her dealings with her sister. Basically, Kayle would be ruled by paranoia at this point, thinking the corruption of the Darkin from the weapons is inevitable, but if Morgana knows otherwise, and still wants to use the weapons to turn the tides that could be where Morgana's personal freedom of choice to do things her way would kick in. Now obviously, I'm not sure where who I supposed to be Kayle in Varus' story would be using Varus' bow to break the bridge, but that timeline could be fleshed out later.

i mean having her become darkin wouldnt mean that kayle couldnt have any relation to her, in fact it would make their relationship more interesting imo. the real problem comes with the fact that morg doesnt have any weapons. whats she gonna use, bra of the darkin?

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Please no...

Arakadia1 votes

That seems very unfitting. I don't understand how Kayle would be her sister if they did that and Morgana looks almost nothing like the other Darkin. She would break the aesthetic even more than Varus did.

DerMangoJoghurt1 votes

The next Darkin is probably female, as indicated by

Where are you, sister?

from Varus' color story.

BLIGHTBRINGER1 votes

Yeah I know, I just wonder what if the new promised champion is Varus's sister?

I would be mindblown lol

Oleandervine1 votes

Every character in the stories doesn't have to be in the game. It's actually pretty bad from a lore perspective if that's the case, because it doesn't allow for the world to have beings of might and power that exist beyond the game's influence. Characters that exist in the story only, like the Ruined King, have a reverence and mythology around them that can only be fueled by him being a mythic person of interest.

DerMangoJoghurt1 votes

I agree with you completely. Characters like the ruined king or Tamara are much more interesting when they only appear in stories. But we know there are only five Darkin and they are highly requested by the community, which is why any Darkin mentioned in a story is probably going to become a champion at one point.
