(Champion Concept) Samantha, The Abomination

Hello everyone! I've recently been struck with an idea that I would like to get written down and have feedback on. I'm not someone who does this often, so forgive me if I make any obvious mistakes. Also, I thought about making concept artwork for her before I did this, but I think it would be better to get second opinions before I do something like that. So, without any further introduction, my champion concept!

Samantha, The Abomination

Lore

Watching the world grow is an incredible experience. It's something that can play with your heart like nothing else can. I was filled with awe as I watched nature crawl across the land to fill a wasteland with breathtaking beauty. I watched from the shadows as men and women rose from the sea of leaves to combat it. My heart surged with pride as they hollowed out the wilds and tamed them. Nations rose from the seeds these people had planted. These nations quickly filled themselves with cities that stood mightily over the lush landscape. I remember what it felt like to be so happy for these people; the joy saturated my entire being. It wasn't long before I saw the cost of these cities unfold on a massive scale. Magic and metal scorched the once beautiful landscape. Oceans of blood poured into the earth with the ferocity of a tempest. Wars seemingly raged endlessly between nations while I quietly floated above.

It wasn't long before my curiosity made me peer into the depths of the situation as it always had before. I roved the streets of the glorious bastions that had me so wonderfully enthralled before. The buildings loomed over me as I watched blood trickled into the brick road. Bodies were slumped onto the ground at every corner. Screams echoed from the darkness. For the first time, I felt fear wash over me. As I glided away from the city into the deep forest to hide, I felt another sensation. Sadness. After burying myself as deep as I could into the wilderness as I could, I cried. I knew that the beauty I had known from the beginning of time was gone and replaced with terror and hate.

I hid in the forest for centuries and eventually, humans found me again. Pioneers had finally delved into the forest as deep as I had hidden. The settlement they had constructed was nothing in comparison to the massive capitals. Small log cabins littered a clearing that was carved out of the dark trees. Curiosity, once again, spurred me to action. These people were not unlike the people who planted the seeds of nations. They were relaxed and kind. They moved at a comfortable pace and were generally happy with what they had. If only for a moment, I felt that joy that had filled my being so long ago. However, as quickly as it came, it left only to be replaced with memories of soldiers staring into the sky as their life was brutally taken from them.

I would not allow myself to be overcome with despair again. I believed in these people; I knew there was kindness in them. I roved the town to look for a way to free myself from the pain of being a watcher. I never wanted to feel the pain of watching a world tear itself apart as it stared blankly back at me again. Luckily, I had found my solution. Just beyond the window of a small log cabin was a well crafted doll carefully set atop a bed lit by moonlight. With hardly a thought, I began to permanently bind myself to it. Few things would give me as good of a view of kindness left in the world as through the eyes of a girl's doll.

Although it felt strange to finally be bound to something physical, it was even more strange to see the girl react to her doll standing on it's own. To avoid causing panic, I spoke in the gentlest voice I could manage.

"Hello... I'm Samantha. Who are you?"

The girl was slow to respond.

"I'm... I'm Christie"

Her face changed to a look of confusion.

"Samantha, how are you talking?"

"I've seen a lot of things Christie. I've watches the world grow for a long time, and I wasn't happy with what I saw. I thought It would be fun to just be your friend for a while. Would that be O.K. Christie?"

To my surprise, she suddenly looked excited.

"Of course it is! Oh my gosh! We are going to be the bestest friends ever Samantha!"

With childlike vigor she hopped on her bed, hugged me tightly, and promptly fell asleep.

It wasn't until the next day that I was sure my plan had worked. Christie showed me to her parents. Maybe they would have been more suspicious if experiments with magic hadn't already produced talking dolls. Luckily, her parents did not think that I was dangerous and probably attributed me to a partially failed enchantment by the toy maker. In any case, I had finally escaped the world as I previously knew it. My entire horizon included myself, Christie, and the friendship between us.

Christie loved me like no girl had loved a toy before. Even as she grew, I was her best friend. I was there to share the success she felt when she got her first job. I was there when she got married, moved into her own house, and had her first child. Christie only ever had one child, a daughter named Rachel. Although by now I was obviously not Christie's first priority, she still loved me. Unfortunately, Christie found herself on the last bed she would lay on. The doctor had a disappointed look on his face as he left. It was obvious that Christie wouldn't be able to beat her fever. I found myself bedside with a small girl clutching my wooden hand. Realizing she didn't have long left, Christie looked over to Rachel, who had been fighting back tears for nearly an hour.

"Rachel, mommy's gotta go now. I know you're gonna miss me, and I'm going to miss you, but you need to know it's O.K., I want to know you're going to be alright."

"Mommy, I don't want you to go..."

"It's alright Rachel, I'm not going to leave you all alone. I'm going to leave a part of me with you. Samantha is yours now. She's a loyal friend that has loved me my entire life, and now, she's your friend. Even after I'm gone, she'll stay with you until you get to see me again. Be sure to take good care of her."

Christie offered Rachel her hand.

"Al.. alright mommy. I love you."

"I love you too honey."

I felt Rachel's grip tighten. The room was silent except for the sound of Rachel quietly crying. Soon, Christie's grip went slack. At that very instant, my world had changed from Christie and me to Rachel and me. I cried even harder than I had in the woods. This was far more painful.

Years continued to pass. It was clear that Rachel didn't keep me in her heart like Christie did. When war finally found the small town, she left me in the blazes without a second thought. When the fires died down, the town was empty, I looked for Rachel thinking that she had accidentally left me behind. She was nowhere to be found. With my hope slowly fading, I decided to stay in the town in case she came back to look for me. Forty five years later, she still hadn't come back. For a large portion of this time, I had been brooding on what had happened. The world had once again turned to bitterness and hate, but this time, I let the hate in. Just like the leagues of soldiers that died in waves, I was left for dead. Forgotten. Disposed of. The hate had changed me. Although I was once a work of art, I was now a monster, a knurled piece of wood held together with nails and scraps of fabric.

Eventually, adventurers found the remains of the town. I watched from the shadows as they searched for anything valuable or important. Hate seethed through me. When they strayed too close to me, I struck. Screams filled the forest as they were attacked by a living nightmare. I stood over their bodies and looked at my bloodstained hands. The hate had made me stronger...

and it felt good.

Generally, what I'm going for with this is that she's a lost doll that became evil when she was forgotten, lol.

Gameplay

What I'm going for with her gameplay is a unique feeling that is rewarding in every situation, but not overbearing unless you really, really screwed up. I'm trying to make it so Samantha isn't done playing when someone gets an infinitesimal advantage, and is able to return that feeling to her opponent. It should make her at least bearable to play as or against regardless of where balancing lands her. With that information in mind, I would like her to be a Mage / Fighter with a focus on poke and sustain that scales with AP, Mana, and Health. Her scaling will be meh and she'll have good base values, but she'll also focus on using item synergy rather than raw stats.

Passive: A Wretch Like Me

After not moving or attacking for 2 seconds, Samantha will sit down and brood, generating a stack of "Despair's Embrace" every second. Every 5th stack (or so) will make her stronger by increasing her health, mana pool, and ability power by 1%. (Not all at the same time. For example at 5 stacks, her health will increase by 1%. 1% Mana at 10. 1% AP at 15. 1% Health again at 20.)

Her passive is designed to make times when you can't do anything useful, useful. It's not meant to be stronger than farming, but it gives her infinite stacking (something I LOVE) in a way that keeps everything rounded out. But, guess what... IT'S NOT A MINIGAME!!! I mean, unless you're tactically brooding in front of farm. Also, percent bonuses don't help when your stats are low to begin with, so AFK river Samantha won't be an issue.

Q: A Friend's Embrace 70 Mana 8 sec cooldown at all ranks 130/180/230/280/330 + 0.5 AP + 0.03 Mana + 0.02 Health Damage

Samantha stretches her arms forward. If her arms hit a wall, her arms flow through the wall as a shadow and the range extends 1000 units from where her arms come out on the other side. Grants 1 second of vision on units hit

Unique poke design that is useful in lane and in jungle without punishing designs that don't directly pander to it. Only AD builds will lack a poke ability, and because she's ranged, that's not a huge issue either.

W: Locked Away 60/70/80/90/100 mana 18/16/14/12/10 Cooldown 80/110/150/200/260 + 0.5 AP + 0.03 Mana + 0.02 Health

Samantha produces a magical barrier between herself and the world that lasts 5 seconds. If the shield doesn't break when the duration ends, Samantha is healed for half the initial value.

This ability is where Samantha's base values shine through. Regardless of everything, this shield will be at least somewhat relevant in most situations, especially when resisting damage that seems to come from nowhere when all you want to do is live. Decent sustain, good protection, not specifically overbearing. Good overall.

E: Hopeless Cry 80/85/90/95/100 mana 14/13/12/11/10 Cooldown 150/190/230/270/310 + 0.5 AP + 0.03 Mana + 0.02 Health 30/40/50/60/70 % Slow

Samantha opens her nail filled mouth to scream in a narrow, but long, cone. All targets hit are slowed. Targets that are already CC'ed, except for airborne and slowed, are feared for one second.

Fleshes out some team-play and AOE for Samantha. If you choose to not go totally glass cannon, this gives you some CC to work with. In any case, The AOE damage and slow/fear will really help in teamfights, especially when your teammates have already done something to them.

R: Extinguished Hope 100 mana 60/50/40 Cooldown 500/600/700 + 0.7 AP + 0.05 Mana + 0.03 Health

Samantha empowers her next autoattack with magic, giving it 1000 Range. Several things can happen based on the remaining health of the target after the damage is applied.

  • 75% and Above = Target deals 35% less damage for 3 seconds.

  • 75% - 25% = Reduces armor and MR by 20/30/40 for 3 seconds.

  • 25% - 0% = Stun for 1.5/2/2.5 seconds

  • Killing Blow = Damage is delt in a 500 range AOE around the target.

"It just empowers her next auto attack? That's stupid!" First, look at how much damage it does at what range. Then look at what happens when it hits. This single ability makes almost every possible build with her somewhat viable which is possibly the funnest thing I can think of. Also, look at the cooldown. It's not really an Ultimate, it's more like Kog Maw's ultimate. A strong supplement that comes up from time to time.

Basic Design

  • Ranged with 500 range, throws needles
  • Character is a mistreated doll with creepy features, most notably, her mouth is cracked open wider and filled with nails for teeth.
  • When she's particularly angry or targeting something, her calm gentle voice fades to a deeper, more demonic voice
  • Her base stats are pretty standard for a ranged mage, something like Xerath wouldn't be unreasonable.
  • 335 Movespeed or so. She's kind of small, so it makes sense there, but also because it feels right as well.

Lines

Pick : (Doll Voice) Love is a beautiful thing... (Demon Voice) until you outlive it.

Joke: (A barbie joke that doesn't get a take-down notice)

Taunt: (Doll Voice) Let's play hide and seek! I must warn you though... (Demon Voice and puts hands over her eyes) I always win.

Taunt 2: (Doll Voice) Alright, you hide! 1, 2, 3, 4, (Demon Voice and puts hands over her eyes) Why aren't you hiding?

Dance: She pulls some loose clothes fibers tight and plays the twisted treeline BG on it like a harp.

Not much, but it should give you an idea.

Alright, so there's that. If this gets enough attention, I might draw up some artwork to go with this. Tell me what you guys think.

The kit is very interesting, but I'd remove the mana and health scaling for damage on abilities. You've heard of Ryze? Yeahhh, he's got mana scaling. I like the ultimate. It's something new. I'd lower some of the base damage as well.

You could make serious plays with this kit, or you could screw it up royally.

Could you check out my champ idea? I worked really hard on it and you can find it here. Leave some critique and let me know what you think! If you don't understand all the numbers from the skill section, skip to the discussion section that contains a breif overview.

See you there!
