"Reactive" Armor as a viable countermeasure to true damage.

Alright. I see all this stuff with true damage getting tons of hate from the boards "and rightly so" and I got to thinking about what could be done to help that in terms of items. I really like coming up with new items and I kind of wish that League had something in the order of 700 items, but let me throw out my ideas for this.

  1. Unbreakable Bastion (it's a diamond shield)
  • 500 health
  • 150% mana regen
  • Unique Passive - Fortress: 25% of true damage you receive from any source is returned to the attacker as true damage.
  1. Weight of the Darkness (it's onyx plate-mail) [interesting jungle applications]
  • 30 MR
  • 30 Armor
  • Unique Active - Resurgence: Damage generates stacks of resurgence equal to one tenth the amount of magic and attack damage taken along with an amount equal to true damage taken. Upon activation, nearby enemies are very briefly knocked back and take true damage equal to resurgence stacks. Stacks wear off after 10 seconds and cap at 100 to 600 based on champion level.
  1. Robe of Refraction (it's a opalescent robe)
  • 20% CDR
  • 60 AP
  • Unique Passive - Fold: when 20% of total health is reduced by a single attacker's true damage, that attacker is stunned for 1 second. (To clarify, this is cumulative. True damage dealt in the frame of 5 seconds perhaps? As for the stun, yes I WANT it to be that frustrating.)

Also, don't get your hopes up about riot putting any of these in, they do a pretty good job of turning a deaf ear to suggestions.

Items should not, EVER, have hard CC. That makes some champions who are almost nonexistent if the enemy has any even worse (Katarina really likes every tank/jungler now having an on demand AoE knockback, so does Fiddlesticks), and it makes any champions already loaded with CC even more overbearing (oh look, now Leona has 2 stuns, a snare, AND a knockback. And Naut now has a snare, AoE slow, AoE knockup + stun, a stun, AND a knockback).

Additionally, the 3rd item is (as Enosense said) mindnumbingly frustrating to deal with. It directly penalizes an opponent for even targeting you once and cannot be played around outside of "don't ever use true damage on this person". Additionally, true damage is generally in 3 categories: tiny amounts that quickly add up (Irelia E, Twitch passive, Garen E on the Villian), medium amounts that come much slower but still do reasonable damage (Vel'koz passive, Vayne W, Fiora passive without ridiculous amounts of AD), and one large burst of damage, then nothing (Cho'Gath ult, Fiora passive with ridiculous amounts of AD, Garen R on the Villian). This item is useless against 2 of those (small bits are not going to ever proc it, medium are not ever going to proc it), and is only good for REALLY annoying the large bursts. More importantly, almost all the large bursts are executes: this means the item is good as a "hahahaha fuck you for using your skill for it's intended purpose" that mildly annoys the opponent or a "fuck you Fiora you don't get to ever hit me and live". It's literally only good against Fiora as in every other case you already died.

As a final note, the entire point of true damage is that it cannot be reduced. That means there should not ever be introduced an item or ability that reduces true damage as it destroys the entire reason true damage exists.

I'm not going to disagree (mostly), but I will clarify a few things.

  1. None of the items reduce true damage.

  2. The knock-back is a baby, baby, BABY nudge at a very close range. I forgot to add that it should have a cooldown of some sort, but it's just meant to interrupt anyone who is channeling on your face.

  3. As for the stun, I edited the OP to say that it is cumulative. The point of the stun, (which i wanted to be short, but not unnoticeable) is to really challenge massive true damage burst that would otherwise go unanswered. The damage would still go through, it doesn't stop true damage, but if a Darius slams you for 25% of your max health, or Fiora, Gangplank, or Vayne burns up your health with no questions asked in the calculation, maybe they will have to think about when they do it. As for the cooldown on the cloak, maybe something akin to Guardian Angel's. A STUN on an item is stupid strong, but it's the aspect I wanted out of it. Not to be just super strong, end all true damage, but have a sharp corner to put in the mix when true damage gets wicked. 20% of your max health seemed right, so that's the only one that isn't a tank item.

Fortress: 25% of true damage you receive from any source is returned to the attacker as true damage.

That IS reducing true damage. Return is different than reflected.

I like your ideas, as for making a noticeable post that RIOT would even look at... Don't end with a bitter comment about RIOT not paying attention to suggestions. They won't like it and if they see your post they definitely won't take your suggestion.

Cool ideas, I like that they are passive and reactive to the true damage, preventing the items from having abuse cases like the new Devourer does. Cool and unique thoughts, and I do hope that this gets some attention. Have my upvote :)

Thanks man, I like the positive feedback. As for Riot's attention, I sort of care, but I made this for fun. That line was to jab at Riot for Cassiopeia.

The Robe of refraction would cause more issues than solve. For one, it would fuck over Cho'Gath. Do we really need to fuck over Cho'gath? Also, there aren't really alot of champions in the game who can actually do that much True damage in one shot. If you're trying to hit Vayne with this, her True damage doesn't even do close to 20% of max health,, so unless this is a cumulative thing, I can't really see the Robe being useful
