[Champion Concept] Hikari Onima, the Necromancer (Backstory only atm)
This is a champion concept I came up with a decently long time ago, and I was curious to see the communities thoughts so far. No kit has been made; this only contains the backstory. I'll try to work on a kit as soon as possible and add it to this thread. The idea is that she will most likely be a mid mage or support oriented champion, quite possibly a shape-changer similar to Elise or Nidalee. If I feel this gets too problematic (these champions are weird to balance at times), I'll just stick to a traditional champion style.
Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading!
Name: Hikari Onima Height: 5'2'' Weight: 108 lbs. Appearance: Pale, fair, white skin, black visible veins, dark green eyes with black veins visible in the eyes, black energy that resembles hair that reaches mid-back, typically wearing black robes with various animal skulls on the waist and bones adorning wrist braces, shin guards, robes, etc. No shoes, instead her feet are wrapped in black cloth. She carries the Gravelord's Scepter, an ancient staff that enhances the power of a necromancer. Weapon(s): The Gravelord's Scepter, a very ordinary-looking 6' black staff with a black blade attached to the end of the staff. The rest of the staff is old and worn, the staff is ice-cold to the touch and gives off a very disturbing and fatiguing aura. Backstory: Necromancy carries a heavy cost. In order to bring life back to that which is dead, life must be taken from elsewhere. This is a truth that Hikari learned far too late. Hikari was always a gifted sorcerer; even from a young age she was capable of producing protective wards and even healing her own injuries. She first discovered her powers as a ten year old girl when her brother was attacked by a neighbor's dog. The dog had gravely wounded the boy's arm, almost to point of dismemberment. Hikari wept over her brother's wounds, and she held onto his wounds, much to her brother's dismay and pain. Hikari was amazed to see his skin stitching itself back together before her eyes. When it had finished, her brother's arm was as good as new, and all of his pain was gone instantly. Hikari hid her powers from others, for she knew that magic users were often persecuted as troublemakers and threats to peace. She practiced her healing abilities on her brother, since he would often find himself injured due to typical adventuring and such. At the age of 15, Hikari discovered she could create wards, such as a repulsion field or a beacon of light that would follow her as she walked around. At the age of 19, she left her home and journeyed around the province, using her talents to heal those she came into contact with. Eventually, she met a man named Pann Wilani. The two married and Hikari found herself pregnant a few months later. However, during childbirth, her daughter died. Hikari was wracked with grief for a long time. She couldn't eat nor sleep, and when she did manage to sleep, she endured awful nightmares. Hikari wanted to bring her daughter back, and she would give anything for it. She sought out literature on necromancy, and she found books that taught simple revivals that worked only on things that had been dead for a short time. Because of her natural talent for sorcery, and because of the tie between necromancy and restoration magic, she picked up the art rather easily, but she learned quickly that life had to be given to restore something. Originally, she drew life energy from plants around her in order to restore life to insects and small animals. Such restoration only lasted for a day, and the revived creature would turn to dust once that time was up. She became very reclusive from her husband over time, and he became suspicious of her studies. Eventually, he called the guard to investigate her practices, but she fled before she was captured. She took with her a map which she had pawned from a merchant who claimed it led to a magical item called the Gravelord's Scepter. The merchant explained that it was rumored to be able to raise anything from the dead and keep them alive. He even explained how it could give her dominion over those she brought back to life. Hikari knew this was her only hope to revive her daughter, and she journeyed after it as quickly as she could, not knowing that her husband was on her trail. Hikari journey through the wilds until she came upon the cave that supposedly held the Scepter. She ventured in and found the Scepter amidst a pile of skeletons, all of which seemed to be grasping for the Sceptor. The room was still and cold. Hikari felt herself tire with every step she took towards the staff. She peeled the hands from the Sceptor and pulled it from it's stand. She held it high in the air and felt revitalized with unimaginable power. It morphed her appearance into what she appears as now. She turned to leave when she was met by a skeleton of a dragon. The dragon introduced itself as the dracolich Vustulin. The dracolich explained that Hikari was free to take the Scepter, saying that she had survived long enough to actually reach it. It expressed that her will was stronger than all those who had come before her, and that is what kept her alive. Vustulin inquired as to what her goal was with the staff. Hikari told it that she wanted to bring her daughter back from the dead. Vustulin gave no response. After a pause, he wished her luck on her journey back to her daughter. As she went to leave, Pann stood in the entrance. Pann drew his sword as he approached her. He told her couldn't let her defile their daughter's remains and interfere with the course of life and death. He called her a monster for pursuing the art. Hikari told him to back down, and that she didn't want to fight him. It was then she remembered that he was the one who called the guards on her. She felt a voice tell her that he didn't care about their daughter or her. The voice told her that he wanted to kill her. She was consumed with hatred for him, and, using the Gravelord's Scepter, she drained his life energy and turned him to dust. She was remorseless as she stepped over his ashes. Vustulin chuckled as she left. Hikari returned to her daughter's grave under the moonlight and dug up the coffin that held her daughter. She opened it to find the skeletal remains of the child. She used the staff to infuse her husband's life energy into the skeleton. Flesh and skin returned to the skeleton, and Hikari embraced her daughter. She heard her cry for the first time, and Hikari wept in joy over the child. Hikari saw a tattoo form on the child's left arm. She did not understand the purpose of the tattoo, and she didn't care. Hikari took her daughter and fled the town. As she was leaving, guards stopped her and arrested her. Her daughter was taken from her arms. She wept as she saw her daughter being carried away. Her grief turned to fury as she sat in a cell for several days. She felt the whispers of that same voice telling her that the guards wanted to keep her daughter from her, and that they would kill her and her daughter. Over those days as she awaited her execution, she meditated on her spells and gathered her strength. On the day of her execution, she freed herself, regained the Sceptor, and slaughtered the guards. She absorbed their life energy and enslaved three of them to follow her. She carved a path through her town in search of her daughter, but she found nothing. She razed the town to the ground and slaughtered the townspeople. She left the town with her three thralls in search of her daughter. As she journeyed, she noticed that the thralls had the same mark on their arms as her daughter did. Hikari journeyed back to the cave to speak with Vustulin. She asked the dracolich what the purpose of the mark was. Vustulin explained that the mark was a sign that the revived person or creature was living off of the energy of another, and their lifespan was directly tied to the original lifespan of the one the energy was taken from. So if a person was going to live for 20 more years, then the revived person would live that 20 years. She asked if she could determine the lifespan of an individual at will. Vustulin said no. She then asked what the voice that she had been hearing was. Vustulin explained that the creator of the Scepter, Aritu Gaman, imbued it with his spirit, and the Scepter could communicate with the wielder at any time. He further explained that the Scepter drew in life energy from those around it and granted it to the wielder, thus ensuring near eternal life for the wielder. She realized that her violent nature was coming from the Scepter and she tried to abandon it, but Vustulin explained this was impossible. Once the Scepter was taken, it could never be abandoned. The Scepter would seek to return to the wielder, and could manipulate others to an extent to return to its wielder. The only way the Scepter would leave its wielder was if they were killed, and if that happened, all the thralls would die as well. Hikari contemplated suicide, but her drive to find her daughter overwhelmed that. She vowed that she would find her daughter no matter what.
