[Concept] New forms of damage

So currently with the league of legends, we have 4 types of damage. That is right we have the four following type.

Physical damage: Reduced by Armor, damage resist, and shields.

Magic damage: Reduced by Magic Resist, damage resist, and shields.

True damage: Ignores armor, magic resist, and damage resist. Reduced by shields.

Pure damage: Produced by fountain lazer. Same as true damage but ignores invulnerability and revive effects.

Now while there is a bit of variety in the damage types here, I was thinking of perhaps adding more. Right now league does have a good system for damage so why add more to the formula? Well by adding more forms of damage it can help improve older champions, introduce newer champion diversity, and ever grant new options for items. Though what are these new forms of damage? Well let's get to it.

Introducing, Puncture and Piercing damage. What they do is rather simple.

Puncture damage: Is treated as physical damage. Ignores shields. Reduced by armor and damage resist.

Piercing damage: Is treated as magical damage. Ignores shields. Reduced by magic resist and damage resist.

Each damage respectively represents physical and magical, so there isn't any need to add new resistances. Both of these damages will simply ignore shields placed on the targets. Though I am curious to what others think of the idea in concept. Give me your thoughts.

I'm not sure there's enough distinction between Puncture/Physical and Piercing/Magic, frankly. Only characters with shields care and, from the side of that player, having a shield ignored both increases frustration, confusion, AND the burden of knowledge. I'd hate to die and see my health bar still "full" of shield health, for example.

It's an interesting thought experiment, and perhaps worth further consideration. I do think a new damage type needs to push further away from the existing ones though.

These types of damage would work well on Assassins in moderation, but I think they'd just have a "This ability bypasses shields"-tag. Riot doesn't like adding new Keywords that much because of some "Player Knowledge Overload" reason. I forget the terminology.

Also, I'd rather they added more defenses against the secondary damage types: AoE, Single Target, DoT, and Ambient. Edit: I guess Multi-hit is another secondary damage type? Taking less damage from Karma's empowered Q as a Tank would be nice.

So... this would among the lines of Armor and Magic Penetration? Only, these ignore shields instead?

It would leave shields near useless depending on the damage it ignores. Plus we have armor resistant i think. Sorry I haven't played in months. but im sure there is a group of dmg that ignores shields

This would hard counter Tahm Kench, kill Ryze, infuriate Janna and every other shield champ. Maybe make a champ whose damage to shields is doubled, (400 damage breaks 800 damage shield, 600 damage deal 400x2 to the 800 damage shield and then 200 pierces.) but as The Djinn stated, damage that counters shields is weak when shields aren't involved and too strong when they are, which makes it feel cheap when shields are in meta and invalidates it otherwise. WAIT ACTUALLY. Make a third Last Whisper upgrade which gives 30% bonus dmg vs shields and some AP item with a similar effect. That oughta do it.
