Lore

Background Born in Zaun, Aeri was the daughter of two worker class people. Never well off, their family constantly had to fight to survive. Even as her child, she had a gift with Hextech machinery. More important to her than that, however, was her drive to take care of others around her.

When her parents died in a factory accident, however, she had to take care of herself. The streets of Zaun are a hard place for an orphan, but she managed to survive by selling Hextech equipment she made from scraps. After living in squalor for some time, she decided she needed to leave.

Saving up her money, she intended to travel to Piltover, where she heard that life was easier on the poor. A band of thieves, however, cornered her as she was gathering scrap, stole her earnings, and left her for dead. Barely alive, the girl, with her quick mind, created a brace for her broken leg that would support her entire weight. She then crafted a machine that would sustain her broken body for a time, and she set out to leave Zaun.

The Broken Girl It was early, just before the sun had risen. The pale blue light of the hextech street lamps matched the early morning sky that preceded the sun’s arrival in the sky. A light fog permeated the city, and a gentle breeze sent a cold chill down Vi’s back. She never really minded the night shift, always more action then, but this night had been pretty peaceful, so she was as tired as could be. She was about to turn around to head back to the station when she heard a soft ‘thump’ in the fog in front of her. Uncertain of the noise’s origin, she warily walked forward, a keen eye on her surroundings. As she walked, she came upon a small girl passed out on the road. Getting on the radio, she called in Caitlyn, asking for an ambulance. Taking off her left handed glove, she felt the girl to make sure she was still alive. Hearing the faintest of heartbeats, Vi realized just how close to death the little child was. The ambulance came, the medics rushed her on a stretcher, and ran her as fast as they could to the nearest hospital. Vi followed them, her shift was over, and she wanted to make sure the girl would be fine. She remained an hour in the waiting room, when a doctor came to her and told her she was alright, albeit she would lose her left arm. The thing was, however, that the device she was wearing was keeping her alive. Walking into the recovery ward, the girl was propped up on the bed, a cheery smile on her face. Vi immediately recognized the drab clothing of the Zaun lower class, and asked her what she was doing in Piltover. The little girl told her of her life, and how she came to Piltover. At that moment, Heimerdinger bustled into the room. After talking to the doctor, he walked up to the girl and asked her questions about her equipment. As the girl, who identified herself as Aeri, talked, Heimerdinger’s furry little face lit up with excitement. “Extraordinary!” he said with an exclamation, “This is an amazing device! I would love to get the chance to examine this device for personal research. Would you mind coming to my shop sometime and building me another device, so I may observe its functioning?” “I would love to, sir, but I have no home here in Piltover in which to stay,” she replied. “Ah, I see. I’d offer you a room in my house, but a colleague recently destroyed half of it during a misguided test.” Vi chuckled to herself as she remembered the damage ‘Professor’ Ziggs had caused last week. Returning her mind to the situation, she was hit with a pang of sympathy. This poor girl from Zaun was without a home in a foreign city, a plight she could sympathize with. Speaking up, she said, “I can house the child as she grows.” She couldn’t believe the words as they left her mouth, but her kindness was instantly rewarded as soon as she saw Aeri’s smile.

Appearance:

  • Standard Skin- Aeri is a young, but tough, girl. Her left arm had been lost, and is replaced by a bronze, hextech arm. She has short, auburn hair that she keeps in a ponytail, green eyes, and freckles along her thin, girlish face. Her body is of average size for a girl: about 4’8” in height, slender shoulders and arms, flat chested and barely noticeable curves at her waist. Her skin is fair, and has only one blemish: a scar along her right arm that runs from the inside of her elbow to the bottom of her shoulder on her back. She wears a cutoff, blue t-shirt, underneath which is her bronze life support equipment, black pants with a button and a zipper, and black leather boots with a strap toward the top. Her arms and legs all have skeletal supports that run from her hands and feet up her arms and legs, with two bands that attach them to her body.

  • Young Doctor Aeri- Her body is the same as in standard skin, but she has a white lab coat with a pen in the chest pocket, with pale green scrubs on underneath, and black doctor’s crocs.

Interactions and Emotes- her voice sounds like a girl’s voice, but she speaks with the authority of a seasoned doctor.

Abilities

Passive: Mana Battery- Aeri's abilities use a battery charged with mana. Each charge takes 25 seconds to refill, reduced by .1 seconds per 1 mana gained from sources other than base mana regen, up to a total of 7 charges. In addition, Aeri's abilities last 6 (+1 per 200 Maximum Mana) seconds and have (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7) hit points that drop off once per basic attack or AoE spell, twice for every single target spell (refresh 1 every 5 seconds). (Her current mana is her max mana times number of charges she has available, divided by 7). Aeri also gains Overcharge once every two recharges. Overcharge causes her next basic attack to heal her and a nearby allied champion (prioritizes low health) for the physical damage dealt.

Q: Suture Nanobot Generator- Aeri sends out a Nanobot Generator to target location. Allied champions within its radius gain stacks of Suture Nanobots every 2 seconds, up to 4 stacks, falling off every 3 seconds. Every time a stack is added, or a stack falls off, that unit is healed by (4, 10, 16, 22, 28)(+7.5% AP). Also, for each stack of Suture Nanobots, that unit also gains (25% Armor) Armor and (25% Magic Resist) Magic Resist.

Cost: 1 Battery Charge; Cooldown: 15 seconds; Ability Type: Unit Creation; Range: 600; Radius: 325

W: Kinetic Intensifier- Aeri creates a Kinetic Intensifier Device at target location. Every 2 seconds, the unit sends out a pulse of kinetic energy, increasing allied units' movement speed by (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%) for 4 seconds and removing all slows. The pulse also slows enemy movement speed by (20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%) for 4 seconds. If an enemy is hit by another pulse, they become stunned by (1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2) seconds.

Cost: 1 Battery Charge, Cooldown: (20, 18.5, 17, 15.5, 14) seconds; Ability Type: Targeted Buff; Range: 600; Radius: 325

E: Aggression Deterrence Device- Aeri places an Aggression Deterrence Device at target location. Enemy champions within its area of influence gain stacks of Aggression Deterrence every 1.5 seconds, falling off every 2.5 seconds, up to 4 stacks. For every stack, that unit will have its damage reduced by (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%). In addition, every time a stack is added or removed, that unit takes (10, 20, 30, 40, 50)(+12.5% AP) magic damage.

Cost: 1 Battery Charge, Cooldown: 15 seconds; Ability Type: Targeted Crowd Control; Range: 600; Radius: 325

R: Hextech Body Modifications- Aeri empowers target allied unit with a device that grants that unit (15, 25, 35)(+25% AP) Attack Damage. Damage that would be dealt to the unit is applied to the device in the same way that the devices take damage instead. If the target is a minion, the effect is permanent, and all damage dealt by the minion will count as damage dealt by her.

Cost: 1 Battery Charge, Cooldown: 75 seconds; Ability Type: Targeted Buff; Range: 600

Gameplay: Aeri is a support with build options. As a tank, building armor and magic resist allows her the ability to provide strong cc, as well as buff her allies' defenses and her own at the same time, grants her great use in situations where her marksman needs survivability, or as utility, building ability power allows her to increase her heal, movement speed boost, and damage buffing utility, turning her carries into monstrous units for a time. Or, if the team needs a little bit of both, she can. Mana, however, is the one thing she consistently needs to build, as it boosts the durations of her spells. Her ultimate also allows her multiple options: she can use it to split push lanes quite effectively, or she can use it to turn her marksman into a high damage, high survivability monster.

Hi there, I was going through the CCOS champions list and found yours rather interesting. I just had some questions about her if you wouldn't mind, so I could understand Aeri a little better.

So, I've read the passive about three or four times. At first, it struck me as being similar to Singed's due to mana scaling with something else of his, but, in a lot of ways, this passive is very busy and does a whole lot of things at once. Increased ability duration, ability gating, and a heal for herself and another champion (that isn't talked about much), and all this coming with mana regen and maximum mana scaling. Now, historically, passives that are really busy like this tend to make champions have points docked in the CCOS. Not to say that'll happen to you, but that tends to be the case. So, I'm wondering what your thought process was here in designing the passive?

Aeri's Q is certainly an ability Soraka would be envious of, as League's premiere healing champion. Whether the stacks go up or down, whomever Aeri's healing gets it massively and, on top of this, has their armor and magic resistance increased by a considerable percentile. Plopping this down during a team fight would, in part, effectively make Aeri's team tremendously difficult to harm at all - the radius being as large as Ziggs's hexplosive minefield certainly assures that. Again, I'm curious about your design process here.

With Aeri's W, I was rather intrigued to see a speed up module. Very few champions get these, much less in an area effect, and usually they have caveats. For example, Sona's E stops working once they get hit. However, not only is that the case, but enemy champions who wander into the mini-rift scuttler aura first get slowed and then, two seconds later, get stunned. This seems a bit snowbally, which isn't inherently bad, but I feel like this ability may be better if it was doing just one of these instead of both.

Aeri's E... I'm trying to be polite, I really am, but between this and Aeri's Q, she shuts down any attempt for enemies to team fight. At all. 40% universal damage reduction, combined with healing all the time and gaining 25% defensive bonuses. I'm not sure how anybody could meaningfully counter that beyond prioritizing Aeri harder than a 24/0/14 Zed, in terms of items and crazy shit like 5 man ganks. If the enemy team packs no spells or range, much less area effect? They lose. Period. They just lose. They can't engage without killing Aeri and any team worth their salt will play Protect The Aeri all day long. For reference, Vladimir's ultimate increases ally damage by 10% and there is nothing, full stop nothing, that flat out decreases every enemy's damage against any target. The closest you get to that is Sona firing a W empowered Power Chord Auto Attack, Urgot's Q (single target), and the summoner spell Exhaust.

Aeri's R reminds me a lot of Banner of Command and it's an alternative take on it. Instead of magic immunity, you get... increased attack damage that scales a bit low with AP. If Aeri got both Banner of Command and her ult at once, she wouldn't even need a zz'rot portal to push a lane. Just plop'em both on two minions and go to town elsewhere. My question is just, where's the counterplay there? You obviously wouldn't use this on a champion since the buff is so minimal, excepting, of course, if you wanted to turn yourself into a tank thanks to Ward HP, but there's nothing to really be done in any case.

Ultimately, I suppose my questions are three fold: First, how do people beat Aeri and teams with Aeri besides banning her first pick? Second, how does she contribute at all to fights where champions can blow up her devices? Lastly, where is the counterplay exactly in her kit? 600 range on all her abilities means she has as large of a casting range as Ashe's autoattacks, so every single ADC barring Caitlyn will just have devices plopped on them and then they'll be neutered. Run away or die doesn't sound like a fun proposition to me, and this problem only gets worse at later levels.

Thank you for your contribution!

Updated Passive

Chocobo Knight9/21/2016, 10:25:55 PM1 votes

There's so much here I want to dig into, I don't even know where to start. I'm just going to go chronologically down the list starting at the passive.

I really like the idea of the passive. It is similar Aeri similar to manaless champions IMO, however it doesn't make mana and mana regen useless on her. I like because it gives her a much different build path than most manaless champs. (I understand she's not manaless).

Can you be a little clear with how Aeri's battery regen works? I am looking at this and assuming that she more or less has a percent regen based on the mana regen. What I am curious about is the cooldown to refill a charge. Is the cooldown based off of mana regen/5 or mana regen/second? If it's per second it might be too hard to make the battery refill quickly even with a strong mana regen build. If it's per 5 I can see it working fairly well. I'm also curious if the mana back from items like item 3070 would be included in refilling the battery.

The overcharge seems really interesting because it gives Aeri a lot sustain and makes me want to try a build with her where she builds tanky ad.

I guess a big question I have is whether she can cast her Q, W, and R on herself or not because her potential to solo lane is really high if she can. If she can't, then she feels like she is fairly well stuck in the support position. She feels like a walking stat stick, and I'd like to see her be able to play other lanes and otherwise just not have a kit if she's not next to anyone.

Her Q feels rather strong for a low DOT heal that also applies resistances. The percent of resistances given might be a little much, but I'm not sure.

The W seems nice, I would think that it would make more sense for it to start at 10% and increase by 5% per level seeing as how Aeri would normally get a 10% movespeed bonus if it's put on another champion. Otherwise, the thought of slow resistance and tenacity would normally seem scary to me if it wasn't for the fact that this is a pure utility skill.

The E looks scary to me. I feel like the amount of pain that skill can cause with the proper amount of mana is downright horrifying. Taunts and fears that were 3 seconds or over were toned down on other champs for good reason. With this current E, I can see her easily getting 4-5 second taunts. I might recommend that either the mana scalings require more mana or only include bonus mana. That or another idea is to make the base taunt duration scale with level. For example .2/.4/.6/.8/1 second.

Her R is a huge stat stick for anyone you throw it on. Even if you throw it on a minion that's like putting a banner on it if not something better. Then just imagine throwing a banner on it. That thing could probably push against yorick's minions and the maiden combined. Overall it seems strong and might need toned down a little.

I'd love to see Aeri in play, but I'd like to be able to see her thrive on her own. She honestly feels like a juggernaut without an execute of sorts.

I'm not going to try and give roles to her builds but I'm just going to toss out some build ideas that I think are interesting. Keep in mind this is not the build order either.

The passive mechanic is interesting, but the kit feels a bit unfocused considering it has so many varying effects. Q giving a heal over time, gives a nice difference to other healers, but the additional tank stats feel tagged on. W gives a nice MS boost for allies to chase/flee, but I kinda dislike the strong counter to slows considering tenacity and slow resistance "stack" E may be phrased differently, but it's effect is very close to Rammus EW and might need tweaks. R is a very bland stat buff, which has widely varying effect depending on whom you cast it.

I'm not gonna harp on numbers or ratios, because those can change - it's the idea that's import.

I think your idea has some interesting things going on. I really like how her kit makes her feel like she's got all these devices (a bit like Heimerdinger) but each of her abilities creates one of these devices.

I do think your formatting could use some work, to make it more appealing to the eyes.

Her lore isn't anything I would write home about, though her personality has potential. I didn't realize she was 8 though, and I personally think she would be better off being older. I also want to bring up the idea of her silhouette and champion model, which by your description, wouldn't really stand out besides the exoskeleton (which is a cool concept, since League doesn't have anything like that IIRC.)

This is all just my 2 cents though.

If you want to check out my entry into the CCOS and give me your 2 cents: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/cXq7B5Iw-champion-concept-imoen-an-honest-thief-yordle-support-marksman
