A word of advice: have fun.

So, as of right now, I have 2 years of playing this game under my belt. For the most part, I have played in the lower ELOs, as well as the lower ranks (Bronze mostly). I used to get frustrated, angry even, at the game, at me, at my teammates, at the opposing players. I would get so upset, it'd ruin my night, and I would be easily agitated at my friends. Then, I had an epiphany: it's just a game. We are all just players playing a game. Finally, I could play a game without getting angry at my teammates, the people I know as friends, both in the virtual and real world. We have inane goals now, having all five players starting in one lane to mess with that laner. We would make the enemy team chase an individual throughout their jungle, and see who could go the longest (we timed it). It stopped being this "win or nothing" mentality, and for the first time, I am laughing from start to finish. More than that, I started to improve. At the beginning of Season 4, I placed in Bronze V immediately. Then, right before URF came out, I started having fun with it. Since, I have climbed a whole level to Silver V. I will never say I am great because of it, but I am now much, much better than I used to be. I finally realized why: because I am not stressed out, because I am not raging at bad teammates, because I am taking a second, looking back at myself and saying, "Oh, I probably ought to buy a ward, since I have the money and space for it," among other things. The next time you go to play a game of League, take a second to get together a group of friends, and say, "Hey, you wanna play a game where we goof off?" Make some inane goal, like playing as Dunk Squad, or all starting top to go after Sata... er, Teemo. Enjoy yourself. Maybe you can't get all 5 friends on at once. Go play a solo queue, and make it a point to be positive, no matter what happens. Take a second to realize you make mistakes, and laugh at them with your teammates (say, "Did you see that epic facecheck I just pulled off? By the way, their team is right here." <Pings over dead body>) Don't purposely make mistakes, but when you do make one, laugh about it. Laughing will allow your mind to register the mistake, and you can then make changes in your gameplay to fix it. And remember, we all are here to have fun: don't deny yourself that pleasure just because things aren't going your way.

<P.S.: Rito, please move the surrender time limit to 35. 20 minutes is waaaaayyyyyyy to early to nail the coffin. The most informative part of any game is how a player reacts to adversity, and when you allow them to just give up on games so early, you take away this teaching period. Who knows, maybe the enemy team makes a crucial flaw, and you turn the game on a dime by playing smarter. I have seen massive gold differences melt in a matter of 5 minutes, and I am not so special that it will only happen to me.

If they moved the surrender limit to 35 minutes, considering that the average game is 30-45 minutes...that would be a very long wait. 20 minutes is fine, honestly.

I understand why you are saying that, but my point is that you should go into a normals game expecting a 30-40 minute game. The only reason to surrender, in my opinion, is if you have multiple DCs, and the enemy team is trolling you by not ending., which is usually at the 30-35 minute mark. Otherwise, play the game to the end. Who knows, you just might pull off a comeback. If anything, you can show up the trolls by ending the game with dignity.

I understand as well; it's frustrating to have a team give up because someone didn't play perfectly. But, all the same, all you need is one other teammate who believes it's worth at least playing to the end. Usually, if you're playing your best and working together with teammates, chances are that you'll silently convince other players that it's worth the try.

Maybe that's just my luck when I do play normals, but I rarely get a full team of pessimists.

I hate the surrender buttons they always mess me up and get in the way of the screen Just make it go away! Its nice to have fun it is a game after all, ans is ment to be fun. ALtho sometimes I get pissed off when I keep getting DC'ed cause then its no fun.. :D

Yeah, that is annoying. Despite being completely insecure when it comes to viruses, Pando at least did the job of making the game run more smoothly.

good advice man, except maybe the trolling bits. that's not fair to the people who want to play a more normal game :/ I can't stop you obviously, but i can't say I'd enjoy playing a game like that.

but yeah, it's just a game. we're all playing it to have fun. we aren't playing to be in the LCS, or gain notoriety, or make tons of money. it's just a game.

Yeah, my point wasn't to promote trolling in solo queue, but rather, when you are with 4 of your friends, take a game to just mess around.

Great advice! I feel that as I have gotten older, I have started putting my favorite games on harder and harder difficulty. Before, gaming would just be a face roll way to relax after school with everything set at a difficulty I could win at. Today I set my games on hard and lose. Sure it adds a little stress but the challenge is worth it and it makes the good plays even better.

The sweet just isn't as sweet without the sour. You gotta go into these games expecting to lose, only to be pleasantly surprised when you pull off a nice win. Not the other way around, going into a game expecting to win, just to be pissed about eventually losing.

Exactly. Even the players on Samsung White have felt the sting of defeat, and they are the champions. You can't expect to win every game, because you will be surely disappointed.

A great thing to do if you and your team of friends is when you're about to take their Nexus, surrender. It's the funniest shit ever, especially when one of your buddies is like "NO! I'M 55/3 WITH RIVEN. WE MUST WIN!" XD

I would be fine with a "Never Surrender" option buried away in the interface options somewhere.

I understand what you're saying, but still sometimes, it's just frustrating.

Something only affects you if you let it. Trust me, the only thing affected by other people trolling or feeding is the end result of the game. Only the way you play affects how well you do individually. In fact, being on a team with trolls is actually a chance to better yourself. By making the margin for error minuscule, you are forced to play perfectly, or you will suffer. The more you practice against an enemy that is tougher than you, the better you yourself will become. It may seem annoying, but trust me, you can use trolls to your advantage.

I think the main issue is that the "win or nothing mentality" is rewarded by receiving more ip for wining. The fact that there are greater rewards (more ip to unlock champs, runes etc.. or moving up a League in ranked) for wining means that naturally people will strive to win above all else. I cannot claim innocence in this matter for I love quickly getting enough IP to unlock the newest champion.

Unfortunately not every can play with 4 friends so inevitably you end up with try-hards or super competitive people. Not to mention with the LCS and all everyone watches a game and believes they know whats best. Plus the cemented meta of two bot one top and one mid limits the amount f creative or fun ideas that can be implemented in Summoners Rift.

Your point is an awesome and well founded one but sadly I think it is bound to fail due to how the game is structured. Everyone wants the benefits of wining not the benefits of having a fun game. (its a sad world).

Please watch Solwolf on YouTube. He is Diamond ELO, and he has a blast playing the game. He constantly plays outside the meta, yet he is really good attthis game.

I actually already watch Slowolf and yeah he has a blast breaking the meta and is amazing at the game. However even he admits that he has bad games or ideas that don't work, but yes he is an amazing role model for how to have fun and win.

Yeah, I disagree very heavily. I have lost 3 surrender votes ever (out of roughly 150), and it's not because I demoralized the rest of my team by trying to surrender. There are matches where one side completely stomps on the other (actually, this occurs in many of my matches since September), and it's clear that there will be no comeback even if one person on the other team disconnects. I don't call for surrender votes just because my team is losing all lanes in general. I call for them when we're losing in lanes, in teamwork, and in calls/objectives (wtf Dragon and Baron calls when all five members of the enemy team are alive, and we are weaker). Maybe you consider it fun to play through a stomp, but in almost all cases, I certainly don't. People should be allowed to spend time the way they want it, and if they don't want to trudge through a train wreck, they shouldn't have to.

Omnem Occido1 votes

You probably don't know how exhilarating a major comeback is. Let me tell you, there is nothing better than having your team vote 3-2, then they cry to you about how you are such a noob, that they have other things to do, that losing isn't fun, and then your team makes a few good plays, and you win. They either never talk and leave immediately with their tails tucked between their legs, or they praise you like you are some god of video games. The whole point of this post was that winning is not everything: the whole point of this game is that you are playing it. If you can't have fun while not winning, maybe you ought to just stop playing: people like this just ruin it for people who play the game to play the game. The average player will win ~50% of his/her games. That means that ~50% are losses. Why do something when you only enjoy it 50% of the time?

P.S. OP I think you posted in the wrong board (technicalities), but eh doesn't matter.
