[Champion Concept] Trogar - The Troll Shaman

Dayvigilante·6/27/2015, 3:21:17 AM·3 votes·2,050 views

Role: Mage, Support

Inspiration: While this champion was originally inspired by the idea to have a global CC ability, his identity shifted more into an area-control mage focusing on auto-attacks and packed with a lot of counter-play.

General Design Philosophy: Trogar is a different kind of mage: his abilities focus on creating areas where he is strong, and areas where an enemy cannot tread without eating hard CC. He was intended to play almost like a Marksman mage, and win fights with correct usage of his various zones of strength to apply effects to his auto-attacks.

Appearance: Small and lanky Troll with simple rags on, etched on the rags are various runes. His hair is light blue and stands on end, although it is often obscured by his hood. http://img14.deviantart.net/c477/i/2012/265/e/9/forrest_troll_wizard_by_rogierb-d5fib7w.jpg http://digital-art-gallery.com/oid/1/800x621_779_Troll_shaman_2d_fantasy_troll_wizard_picture_image_digital_art.jpg

Lore: Trogar was a small troll, and didn't show either the innate prowess or dedication to become stronger. While other trolls fought each other for supremacy, Trogar retreated beneath the ice, only taking what food he needed to sustain himself; for what he was pursuing was a different kind of power. Trogar had spent practically his whole life researching magic, coming up with an entirely new brand of troll magic. Upon hearing of Trundle's plan to unite the trolls under one King, he left the ice in a self-imposed exile. Although he had been laughed at back in the Freljord, it was nothing compared to the ridicule he faced the other more magically inclined areas of Runterra. Having enough of his magic being called "brutish" and "unrefined", he ventured to the Institute of War and joined the League of Legends to prove its merit.

Strengths: Kit is packed with a lot of hard CC and sustained damage.

Weaknesses: Vulnerable to burstier Mages and Assassins. Suffers in fights if caught off-guard.

Plays most like...: Heimerdinger Syndra Azir

Auto Attack: A globe of raw energy lobbed from the center of his staff, infused with different properties.

Passive - Always learning - http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/9/icons_8819_btn.jpg Trogar is always observing the world around him and learning new ways to modify his magical abilities. Charms are small totems that act as a conduit for Trogar's magic. They have two effects: one effect improves Trogar's auto-attacks while he is in the Charm's area of effect, the second ability can be activated after a brief delay when Trogar reactivates the ability , which detonates it, discharging its magic in a small area. Charms last forever, however they can be destroyed by enemies by hitting them with 3/3/4/4/5 basic attacks. Trogar can only detonate Charms if he is within 1200 units from them. Area: While Trogar is in his Charm of Magic's area, his basic attacks deal 20/30/40/50/60(+30%AP) bonus Magic Damage. W - Charm of Frost - http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/1/icons_676_btn.jpg Area: While Trogar is in his Charm of Frost's area, his basic attacks stack a slow on target, with each basic attack slowing by 5%/7.5%/10%/12.5%/15%, up to 20%/30%/40%/50%/60%. Slows last for 2 seconds, but the timer is reset with each basic attack. Range: 600 Detonate: All enemies within 150 units of the Charm of Frost take 20/40/60/80/100(+40%AP) Magic Damage and are Rooted for 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5 seconds. Range: 600 Mana Cost: 50 Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 Trogar's staff and auto-attacks glow icy-blue.

I feel like immunity to totem cc for 3 seconds is a bit much, as Trogar could benefit from some chain cc. It feels less smart and more reactionary if he can't set up big crowd control traps, and one of the appeals of this champ concept is that he feels kind of smart to play, fitting his lore. At max, maybe 1.2 seconds of immunity? Or no immunity at all. To reinforce this smart playstyle, have a brief lockout on each totem before detonation so that he can't reactivate it like a Lux E for just a quick burst of damage and cc. Also, Trogar's ult is important for each teamfight, but the cooldown is a bit long. To make it more of a presence in teamfights, make a minor lockout once ulted so enemies have a moment to understand the threat before detonation and lower the cooldown. All in all, I really do like this concept, both in terms of personality (awwww, he's a nerdy outcast troll) and gameplay. Cool idea, please continue to work on this :) Reviewer, away!summoner 4

if he is primarily a support champion, what was the reasoning for his totem auras not effecting allies? The ult lets them effect allies, but if each aura were slightly weaker, and effected all allied champions, couldn't the ult have been something really exiting? or even an Udyrstyle 5-rank R ability? this looks like a great candidate for that.

.

also, this is a random idea, but if his Passive is all about learning, wouldn't it be nice to change it so that he gets to choose which effect he gains each 100 stacks?

Passive - Always learning - Trogar is always observing the world and learning new ways to modify his magical abilities. Each time an enemy or ally champion uses an ability within range (1200 range), Trogar gains 1 charge of 'mystic insight'. at 100 charges, the counter resets to 0, and Trogar may take his choice between the following 8 upgrades: Trogar will have 2 possible upgrades for each of his 4 abilities (one for the aura, one for the detonation). once an upgrade is selected for a given ability, the other will be locked out until all 4 abilites have been upgraded, at which point the 4 remaining upgrades will again become available.
