Caitlyn Concept

I know Riot's wanting to make Caitlyn feel more like a sniper, so I figured the people playing Caitlyn should be rewarded for successfully damaging enemies from far away. Essentially, the further people are from Caitlyn, the more damage she does.

The main idea is to reward Caitlyn for sniping enemies furthest from her. So, here are some ideas I had.

  • Headshot: Headshots will always deal a minimum set increased damage as normal (a little less than she does now for balance purposes), regardless of how far people are from Caitlyn. The goal would be to mainly reward effective trapping and netting, as well as good positioning. The further outside Caitlyn's normal attack range people are, the better people can maximize their damage (a little higher than the Headshots she does now).

  • Piltover Peacemaker: Same idea. If the enemies are within normal attack range, less damage will be dealt to them. The further outside Caitlyn's normal attack range people are, the more damage they take (a little higher than normal). Multiple targets after the enemy initially hit will still take 33% less damage, unless they are trapped (as normal).

  • Ace in the Hole: Also, same idea — except, the ultimate does increased damage to those that are outside of Caitlyn's Headshot range. If they're within Headshot range, the ultimate will deal a little less damage than it does now. The further people are outside of Headshot range, the higher the damage will be.

Think of Nidalee's spears or Jinx's ultimate, but apply the idea to an entire champion.

If the ultimate would work that way, you would have to increase the range drastically. Otherwise it is just way too unreliable to procc the increased damage (enemy is out of headshot range). On top of the provided counterplay of being body blockable, this would be too much.

And I think you make her kit too reliant on that range... It is fine if she has interaction with range. But your suggestion would make her weaker as long as people stay in her AA range, stronger outside of it. Which is strange, since she is a marksman in the end, she relies alot on AA's to get her damage off. She has to deal a constant stream of damage. Her only options to do so would be her traps, which are way too unreliable for that since they are visible.

What your suggestion would do to her: She will be alot less effective inside of her AA range. Which means that she will be incredibly weak in team fights. Keep in mind that she already is a weak team fighter compared to other marksmen, especially after the removal of her interaction with Ruunans. That change would completely gut her, at least that's my expectation.

To be honest, the main part of her kit that I feel like it doesn't fit the thematic of a sniper is her traps (W).
