Aurelion Sol: Info and Concepts

Judging purely from the name, the champion is a male, Golden (latin: Aurum) dragon of the Sun (Sol), possibly with some tie in to Shurima, but I feel that venue may be cleared out. Perhaps he is more closely linked with Leona. Alternatively he could be a sun-based dragon with the head of a lion (AureLION Sol)

This 'Golden Sun' may have only to do with his visuals, or it could be that he derives his spells from the sun's energy/worship. From that perspective, his kit may include DoT sun damage and function similar to Brand, though he would probably have more mobility spells (Riot likes those these days) and less hard CC.

What do you guys think about his potential kit and design?

While i'm kind of disappointed he may not be an eastern style dragon (rip Ao Shin's design) I am interested in his potential connects with Lenona as I fell Mount Targon is very underused in lore. As for his kit, I hoping for some sort of tanky mage or just a fighter/bruiser (though I feel mage is more likely) beacause that's what I think of when I think dragons. Also can't wait to hear more lore on dragons, and to hear connections to Shyvanna (even if it'll just be taunts)

I think Mount Targon is the next area of focus given the lore updates on the PBE. Im actually wondering if RIOT is planning some kind of Mount Targon event...?

This is what I've been thinking. Pantheon, Leona, and Diana got a slight lore adjustment because they have been based around Mount Targon.

Given that his name means "Sun" then I think he flies around the mountain, protecting it. Kind of like Anivia in the freljord. He must be ancient and wise.

Actually sun worship in real life started in Egypt. The sun was worshipped because the philosophy of dying (sun set) and rebirth (sun rise) was beautiful. I wouldn't be surprised if there is ties to Shurima as well in order to pay homage to Egypt IRL. It's possible Mount Targon settlers originated as Shurima settlers and wanted to come closer to the sun (like the pyramids being built). Which means Aurelion Sol could potentially be the first "pharaoh" who was reborn into a dragon. The purpose of mummification IRL is for reincarnation.

So hopefully this expands the lore of Amumu more because I want to know what happened to him so badly. Maybe Aurelion Sol would grow empathy for Amumu and be his ally.

Now I want to see Amumu riding his back like he's a mount and then using his Bandage Toss at high velocity for sick engages. Hopefully he can carry his teammates (literally).

Sun worship actually started in Sumeria as well as the other early river civilizations, but Egypt is where it is most prevalent in their mythologies, and Sharima is the Egypt analog in Runeterra. Given the number of Sharima characters and skins, I think they may back off of the subject though.

Ever since MF's rework, I had expected them to add a champion with an extended version of Double Up (enter: Jhin's bouncing grenade), but I never really thought of them expanding on Tahm Kench's kit. It would be interesting to have a champion that can be ridden while the rider still maintains control of abilities. Aurelion's abilities would then be reduced/canceled during the mount but perhaps damage would be split between them and they would get a speed boost. (note, this probably won't happen simply because it would be difficult to show with the champion models).

I just highly suspect a correlation between Shurima and Mount Targon. For example, there are a number of mythical weapons on Mount Targon, which is what Pantheon and Leona wield, and that just heavily relates to Egyptian pharaohs hoarding gold stuff like chalices and staves. Diana wanted to show the power of the moon to her people, thinking they would accept her if she showed the power. That means the people on Targon admire power if she thought she could convince them of the moon. And Shurima is a mysterious place where all sorts of powers... Awaken. I wonder if Diana ventured to the desert nearby in order to obtain her powers.

He'll probably be a highly mobile mage, since Riot is mentioning him at this point his expected release coincides around the 'immobile mage update' projected to arrive later this year.

If he is a sun dragon type of creature, then I would expect him to come out linked with the rumored Mt. Targon event. Maybe he'd serve as the living embodiment of the Sun's power that is treated as a revered entity by the solari?
