Honestly, it makes very little sense to implement something in an international game that has next to no international appeal. At least basketball is actually an Olympic sport and, as such, has some kind of a presence outside of the US.
And really, the football (soccer) skins weren't made 'just because,' they were made for the World Cup, which, again, international appeal. There is no equivalent for American football, and no, the Super Bowl doesn't count because that's limited to only teams within the US.
To date all of the athletics based skins are either for the Olympics or for the World Cup, both of which hold wide appeal across all servers, unlike American football which simply isn't that appealing outside of a very small set of the player base (and even within the US opinion on football is actually fairly divided, so it's not like they could expect every player from the US would even want to buy it).

There kind of is, it's Rugby. I'm not sure how strong the international appeal for Rugby is but I do know it's strong in both OCE and areas of Europe, it still pales in comparison to Football however. I'd be confident saying it's more popular globaly than Hand Egg however since it's play in NZ, Aus, UK, France, Italy, Argentina, almost every pacific island and South Africa and followed much more strongly across most of those countries than Hand Egg is in the US.

Similar, yes, but if you made skins based off of one, it would not look like the other. The equipment is completely different, even down to the shape of the ball.

Would you look at that, a world cup for Rugby Union, broadcasted world wide and watched across several continents. Sure it's not on the scale of the World Cup or Olympics, but it surpasses any event in the NFL.

Fun fact. Soccer is what everyone called it. Football is a purely british invention to distance themselves from Americans. "Football" was simply a term for a sport played "on foot" as opposed to on horseback. There were many variations of "Football", one of which was "Association Football" or "Soccer".
Indeed, Soccer, was the prefered term in Britain until post-WWII, and the growing resentment of America, and a urge to be "Different" that the British started using the incorrect term "Football" to refer to Soccer.
And that's the thanks the Americans got for liberating Europe.

That is a map of the usage of the names for football. The word Soccer is a British invention, but its roots trace back to 'Association Football'. It was called Football long before Soccer.
And that's the thanks the Americans got for liberating Europe.
You realise we have our communist friends in the motherland to thank for that far more than America. America came into a won war in its dying hours and speed it up. Without America Europe would have been won by the allies by about 1947 or 1948. Asia is a different story but Asia has nothing to do with 'liberating Europe'.
The most important turning point of WWII was not D-day, as Americans are taught. It was the Battle of Stalingrad. The Russians won the first allied battle in WWII at Stalingrad and continued to win battle after battle, pushing the Germans back out of Russia and eventually being the army who would go on to invade Berlin.
Would the war have been won without American production? Probably not. It's still hard to say though because Russia had another few thousands of kilometres of Siberia to fall back to, all the while using Gorilla tactics and massive minefields to make the Nazi's life a living hell. There is no question that Western Europe would have fallen however.
There are also plenty of other countries who economically fuelled WWII who were about as pivotal as the USA in this respect but are talked about far less.
No one talks about the Indians, who were a major supplier of just about everything to England. The amount of food relief that got through to England from India kept them in the war.
No one talks about the Portuguese and Brazilians who single handedly kept Europe's economy ticking over during WWII after the fall of the major economic player in Europe, the Dutch. Having a local economy and banking system that still works is actually surprisingly important to winning a war.
These nations contributed similar amounts of food and overall stability to Britain as America did production and raw goods. Without any of these nations as well as several others Britain would have likely fallen.

That's why I refer to both AFL (the stupidest 'sport' ever invented) and NFL as Handegg, because that's what they are.
Besides about 6.5 billion people world-wide call Football either Football or a derivative of it translated into a local language. If you want to get outside of your cultural void and see how the rest of the world sees this issue I'd highly advise you visit Brasil, preferably when Fifa is running. It will make you realise just how much more influential and important Football is as a sport than Handegg.

LankPants2 votesMaybe it has a different meaning in America but in Britain and Australia, the countries where I have spent my entire life it is literally just used to refer to Americans. In fact I grew up calling Americans Yanks, Englishmen Poms and Kiwis, well Kiwis (and Sheep Shaggers but I'm fairly sure that one is derogatorily).
Poms and Kiwis are both super common terms in Aus and Yanks is damn near unanimous in England.
Also try calling Football 'Soccer' to a Brazilian, a Spanish person or a drunk Chelsea fan. Not all of them are going to end pleasantly for you.

Various fancy rich boy clubs who played Football(Read: every sport that involved a ball and not horses) came together to create a set of agreed-upon rules for the sport, and named themselves the Football Association, and in turn, their version of Football, Association Football, to distance itself from Rugby Football, another then-created set of rules.
