Mana Damage? Concept

Could there be a champion who could deal 'damage' to an enemies' mana pool?

I'm thinking if anything this should be designed around a support character so the damage wouldn't be massive.

This could be dealt as an ability with a medium to high cooldown, or even as an augmented auto attack with very low numbers and little to no physical/magical damage. It could possibly be dealt as a % current mana so that it scales down by pool size.

It would obviously have it's counters and be useless against champions who do not use mana.

I absolutely understand that this could be broken as it could become very oppressive, but that is where the numbers and the rest of their kit would come in to play. I think it could be an interesting idea.

I'm looking for ideas and feedback.

Especially with the nerf to mana gain with the mage update, attacking mana pools would be incredibly crippling in the current state of the game.

Google BETA Kassadin.

Mana damage was a thing, but it was concluded that it lead to a very unhealthy pattern where it either didn't drain enough for it to matter, or drained too much mana so that it was unfun to play against since that's essentialy like silencing an opponent for a super long amount of time. Don't expect it to return in any way honestly.

Also note that it would only work against certain champions, as not all champions use mana. Some use energy, rage/fury, no resource at all or even their own unique resource.

I havn't been around as long as the old school League players but I heard the Wit's End Item used to damage mana. I think Riot removed it because of complaints and also decided not to add anymore resource-damaging stuff to the game. But like I said, this is stuff I only saw people talking about on the boards.
