[October Champion Contest] [Champion Concept] Scarlet, the Infernal Blade

BigBenClockTower·10/8/2014, 7:54:42 AM·1 votes·1,328 views

Introduction Hey everyone! BigBenClockTower here, and welcome to my third Champion Concept placed onto the Beta Community Boards. It's also my second contest entry on the Beta Community Boards, so as always, this is exciting for me, and I hope it is for you too.

Scarlet, the Infernal Blade, will not only be my October Champion Concept Contest entry, but will also mark the second concept in my "GenreBusters" series of Champion Concepts, where I look at genres not usually associated with MOBA games, and derive Champions out of them, whether it be Platform, Strategy, Puzzle, or even Racing. Scarlet's concept comes from the Fighting genre, and sees me utilize design elements consistent with fighting games, such as attack heavy playstyles and abilities focused primarily on improving her attacks.

However, even if this is a contest entry, the golden rule still applies! One review of any of my concepts gets you one review from me on a Champion of your choice! I like being fair, and I love seeing original concepts too.

About QuickJump Tags I have a tendency of getting long with my posts sometimes. Since I do, I have split them into multiple sections that showcase everything I have to say. So, what does this mean? It means I love detailing everything. It gets me motivated to put these Champion Concepts forth. However, sometimes, people just want to see certain things without scrolling through a lengthy essay, and splitting it into multiple posts can be confusing. So, for those who simply want to see the stats, kit, or other parts of Scarlet I've concepted, I've added special QuickJump tags to each section for easy finding. Simply press Ctrl + F, and type the tag you want to jump to.

Description Scarlet, the Infernal Blade, is an intelligent weapon, a living two-handed blade that shines a scarlet hue and is about the size of a grown man. The sword is inhabited by a female spirit who lends the sword its sentience and uses its powers. The sword primarily gets around by means of levitation, and has slow but strong swings.

Lore Ancient stories talk of a legendary sword, a blade of dark and hellish make. The Infernal Blade. This blade was said to be a single-handed cause of some of the most destructive wars in history, for it was also said that whomever found it and held the blade high could become a god. The blade also bore unique properties; it took the shape of a weapon which the wielder was comfortable with, so anyone could wield it with little trouble, and it glowed a bright red hue when held up high, which people presumed was the wishes they had being granted. All of these tales point towards a weapon to be in awe of, and most of them are true...to an extent. Of all these, only the last two points are not an exaggeration. The blade exists, and does in fact adopt its owner's preferred fighting style. When held high, it does also glow red. But that is where the similarities end. When held high, the blade actually consumes its owner's soul, absorbing that soul into itself, and destroying completely their physical body. The sword then combines with the host not unlike a parasite, and makes its powers theirs to command, allowing it to ruin them.

However, the most recent individual to find the blade was a fierce warrior and wizard, a woman named Scarlet, for her red locks, and her blood stained armor. Proficient with sword and spell, Scarlet was fierce. She seized the weapon from the bandits who had it, immediately wielded it, and held it high as she performed her typical post fight battle cries. This was, however, an idea that everyone now agrees was terrible. The blade immediately consumed her, and incinerated her body completely, binding her to it as was norm. All her abilities were now enhanced (if not replaced) with the blade's powers. What the blade didn't expect however, is that Scarlet's vast magical power let her assume direct control of the blade and everything it did. Breaking the parasitic nature of the blade, she became one with the blade by enhancing her skill with its powers. Even with an absent body, and her old life gone, Scarlet turned to learning her new form's strengths and limitations. Her sheer will, and her vast martial and magical knowledge, allowed her to become a legendary fighter in her own right, and she became the only sentient weapon to win three consecutive tournaments (she lost six others to a legendary warrior who used a lamppost and still overpowered his competitors with sheer skill).

But it wasn't enough. With her new powers, Scarlet became full of herself, and became wholly snarky and cocky in equal measure. Seeking out strong fighters to duel with is what she now lives for, and it's a job she enjoys to the fullest, enjoying her spars with others. Having made both friends and enemies through such battles, she still knows that one day, she'll beat that man with his improvised weapons, and be the best warrior anyone has seen, in her old body, or not.

Base Stats and Roles

Attack Power: 10 Defense Power: 2 Ability Power: 2 Difficulty: 6

Primary: Assassin Secondary: Fighter

Creator's Comments: The values expressed for the stats below are per level, as used on the LoL Wiki. This means it includes Level 1 as a level up for all intents and purposes, so be careful when doing math with these values! Also, remember that Attack Speed as listed is the Level 1 value.

Health: 430 (+90) Health Regen.: 8 (+1)

Mana: 190 (+50) Mana Regen.: 5 (+0.5)

Attack Damage: 50 (+3) Attack Speed: 0.65 (+2%)

Armor: 20 (+3) Magic Res.: 30 (+1.25)

Range: 125 (Melee) Movement: 340

[-AB-]

Infernal Blade - [Passive On-Hit Effect] While her wit is as sharp as ever, Scarlet's blade is sharper still. Each of Scarlet's basic attacks deal bonus physical damage equal to 2% of the opponent's maximum health (limit 300 damage vs. minions and monsters). Each basic attack also restores 1% of Scarlet's maximum mana.

Creator's Comments: Just a quick something that helps her out, since she relies entirely on auto attacks and is very hard countered by armor and health. She also has somewhat higher mana costs on a low mana base, so the additional mana restore encourages players to get into the thick of it every now and then.

Fiendish Toss - [Q - Linear, Pass-Through Dash] Scarlet throws herself forward in a targeted direction, knocking aside all minions and monsters she passes through. If she directly strikes an enemy Champion, she stuns them for 1 second, deals physical damage to them, and refunds half the mana cost. This ends her movement. If Scarlet strikes impassable terrain, she loses 10% of her current health, and ends her movement.

Range: 900 Cost: 100 Mana Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 Seconds Physical Damage: 60/95/130/165/200 (+ 50% bonus AD)

Creator Comments: "Impassable Terrain" is any terrain that cannot be completely dashed through. This serves as her gap closing ability, and is a risk / reward deal. The probability of hurting yourself should encourage careful aim, and allow for some extra counter-play through opposing dashes and whatnot.

Empowered Strikes - [W - Basic Attack Modifier] Scarlet's blade can empower it's strikes to accomplish multiple other effects. When first activated, Scarlet flashes multiple colors in the following order: black, white, then gray (this cycle repeats itself; each color flashes for 0.5 seconds). When she uses the ability again, she picks the current color she just flashed. This color converts infernal Blade to use that effect, instead of the standard effect of Infernal Blade, until next changed. Scarlet has 6 seconds to select an effect. The cooldown does not start until Scarlet chooses a color.

BLACK - Blood Frenzy: Blood Frenzy modifies Infernal Blade, causing Scarlet's basic attacks to restore 1% of her missing mana (instead of 1% of her maximum mana). Each attack also adds 5% to Scarlet's attack speed and movement speed, stacking up to 1/2/3/4/5 times. When not attacking, the stacks decay at a rate of 1 stack every second. Scarlet counts as not attacking if she does not issue a basic attack for 3 seconds.

WHITE - Catalyst: Catalyst modifies Infernal Blade, causing Scarlet's basic attacks to restore mana equal to 1% of her current mana (instead of maximum). Scarlet also gains 5% bonus life steal and spell vamp each basic attack, stacking up to 1/2/3/4/5 tmes. When not attacking, the stacks decay at a rate of 1 stack every second. Scarlet counts as not attacking if she does not issue a basic attack for 3 seconds.

GRAY - Infernal Blade: No difference.

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana (per Toggle) Cooldown: 10 Seconds

Creator's Comments: Empowered Strikes cannot be activated while Murderous Swings is active. These effects only affect the amount of mana Scarlet restores with Infernal Blade.

Murderous Swings - [E - Basic Attack Modifier] Scarlet's cocky nature, when coupled with her martial / magical prowess, becomes a terrifying force to be reckoned with. When first activated, Scarlet flashes multiple colors in the following order: black, white, then gray (this cycle repeats itself; each color flashes for 0.5 seconds). When she uses the ability again, she picks the current color she just flashed. This color converts infernal Blade to use that passive effect, instead of the standard effect of Infernal Blade, until next changed. Scarlet has 6 seconds to select an effect. The cooldown does not start until Scarlet chooses a color.

BLACK - Swings of Slaughter: Swings of Slaughter modifiesInfernal Blade, causing Scarlet's basic attacks to instead deal bonus physical damage equal to 2% of the opponent's missing health (instead of maximum health; limit 300 vs. minions and monsters). Each attack also deals 10/15/20/25/30% of the bonus damage in physical splash damage that is dealt to all enemies within a 300 range radius of the primary target (limit 300 damage vs. minions and monsters).

WHITE- Swings of Hindrance: Swings of Hindrance modifies Infernal Blade, causing Scarlet's basic attacks to instead deal bonus physical damage equal to 2% of the opponent's current health (instead of maximum health; limit 300 vs. minions and monsters). Each basic attack also applies a movement speed and attack speed slow debuff of 5/10/15/20/25% to enemies This penalty decays over 3 seconds.

GRAY - Infernal Blade: No difference.

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana (per Toggle) Cooldown: 10 Seconds

Creator's Comments: Murderous Swings cannot be activated while Empowered Strikes is active. These effects only affect the amount of bonus physical damage Scarlet deals with Infernal Blade.

Deadly Strike - [R - Single-Target] Scarlet targets a single nearby enemy Champion and delivers a deadly strike to them. This strike deals 150/200/250% of normal attack damage. Deadly Strike's attack can critically strike, and applies on-hit effects as though it were a basic attack. If the Deadly Strike kills the target, Scarlet gathers a temporary shield equal to 10/15/20% of the target's maximum health.

Cost: 140 Mana Cooldown: 100 Seconds Max Shield Duration: 6 Seconds

Creator's Comments: Each use of Deadly Strike enhances Scarlet's next basic attack to become a Deadly Strike. While designed to be a smart finisher (as it lacks execution effects), I wanted it to be relatively basic to use given how complex the rest of Scarlet's kit is, so that there isn't an information overload. It does it's job, is appropriately visceral, and can't be mindlessly thrown out in a fight, because the shield is a key component of allowing Scarlet (who lacks escapes) to get out of a teamfight after assassinating someone.

[-KNOCK-]

On a relatively normal night in the Freljord, it was chilly as one might expect. A lone man walks through the snow, seeking a truth that only he can know. While this may make for an interesting tale, this is not his story. Rather, this is the story of one Infernal Blade who was also out and about that same evening, wandering the streets of Demacia. She was searching for someone, and believed she had found their residence.

What was she going to ask? This was the time to decide. She made her decision. She'd ask for a friendly duel. That would be best. She banged her hilt against the door a few times, and waited for an answer. Receiving none, she tried again. This time, she had success, as a Grand Duelist opened the door. Seeing a large red sword hovering there, the Grand Duelist almost didn't even give her any time, but the Infernal Blade spoke up.

"You! So called Grand Duelist! Face me this eve if you have any honor!"

A simple challenge, but one that the Grand Duelist was all too eager to accept. A living weapon would prove an interesting foe no matter who you were. In light of her zeal to be considered above all others in dueling, she took the Infernal Blade to a straight section of the street. Here, the two agreed upon certain rules that ensured no lethal combat would ensue. For the Infernal Blade, this was a once in a lifetime chance, the so called "Grand Duelist", Demacia's most notorious, was a challenge she hoped to surmount, and for the Grand Duelist, a living weapon provided a unique opponent as well. The two fought into the morning, when eventually, the Grand Duelist got the upper hand, catching the Infernal Blade off guard.

The two parted ways shortly thereafter, one smug and sharp, and the other defeated and vengeful. The Infernal Blade still remembers this offense against her very being, and will return one day to deal out a just payback.

Her ultimate is a little too overpowered and she starts with too little help which makes her weak to pokes at the very beggining. Also your champion is a good start although idk about it being a god sword. I mean wouldnt the demacians lock this sword far away from hands to save peoples' lifes. You got to study a little further in lores and this was a good idea though. If you would like, you can look at what champions i made and help me out.
