What if all Master Yi had to do wasn't just Q?

Illâoi Evê Siôn··5 votes·970 views

Imagine you held Q pressed down instead and "drew" a line over your screen (the line can be curved or a circle of a star or whatever; you DRAW) and Master Yi followed that line (the same way he Alpha Strikes right now), attacking any enemy in his path (the line would have a small radius of its own).

If he can't hit an enemy (or if he hits 5 or so) he stops behind the last enemy hit. The line could only be so long but you could take as much time as you want drawing it (and draw it while Meditating?). The downside would be that as long as you're drawing you can't do anything else.

Then you couldn't reliably alpha-dodge stuff. Also, that would easily be the slowest ability in league of legends.

Have you seen pro players play Osu? I don't think it would be that slow. But that aside, with the addition of a new skill requirement Riot could raise the skill cap on Yi when that requirement is met, maybe making him viable in higher levels of play.

I didn't say how slow it would be, just that it would be the slowest ability in League. :3 He also has a ridiculously high skill cap right now, it's more the state of melee carries/assassins in pro play. If they're not busted, they're not viable. Too much risk.

It would also create the problem that he could shove anyone out of lane. Imagine getting hit by a Yi Q every single time he casts it, and he only has to hit 1 or possibly 2 minions to do it since he can aim it so that he doesn't autoshove.

So make it a Vi q with less utility and take away master yi's ability to dodge projectiles? No thanks.

  1. How is it a Vi Q with less utility?
  2. You can still dodge projectiles.

Vi does a knock back It would be harder to since you'd have to already have the line drawn to dodge it vs reacting to dodge it with one button press.

"Zilean's Q shouldn't have been changed because it's harder to hit a skill shot than one button press."

You can just stop holding Q to finish the line and start Alpha Strike and your dodge. If you make a short line the cooldown could partially be reset (or something else, it could be buffed in any way because it requires skill now).

Master Yi is already a difficult champion to play correctly and this sounds like a nerf. Dodging and breaking abilities with Q full speed is essential.

You could still do that. It's still the same Alpha Strike but you have to target the whole path (and all the enemies you want to hit) instead of just one target.

in the time you select your 4 targets you've already wasted too much time

"All master had to do wasn't just Q" Okay first off master yi's Q is fine. It's used to either dodge or gapclose, there's nothing wrong with that. He doesn't use Q to deal damage, but to dodge/gap close. So straight off your title is misleading.

The actual suggestion looks way too similar to vi.

Why do people keep saying it looks similar to Vi? Can Vi dash in squares with her Q and I've playing her wrong all this time?

I just used "all Master Yi had to do wasn't just Q" because of this thread. This is a not a statement about this thread's validity or not. I just used the same wording because it inspired this thread.

You have to charge it up so it's a little similar. Not much but just a little bit.

To be honest, I've ALWAYS wanted an ability like that in League!

Gives him much more to do with his kit, while requiring a slightly bigger skill floor to use properly AND allowing him to use his current playstyle just as effectively.

they should go back to OG yi where his Q was his ult and it could hit 10 people

For those moments in which you REALLY need to 1v9!

What if instead of that, you become invulnerable for 0.5 second. You can then dash a short distance in that second. If you don't dash, the invulnerability ends.

If you do dash, you get the invulnerability again and may dash again. Then it happens one more time, for a total of 3.

I know it may seem OP, or like riven's Q, but hear me out. The damage would be reduced slightly. The dashes could not go through walls, and unless you can choose a direction and press Q in 0.5 seconds, your invulnerability will run out and it will go on cooldown. Maybe it would be like Jhin's R, where you get CDR based on how many dashes you didn't use? This could also help you assassinate low health targets, where before it was up to chance or you'd have to go in with R.
