What if Randuin's active removed Crit Chance for a few seconds?

Illâoi Evê Siôn··121 votes·3,427 views

Instead of lowering the damage taken or slowing, it would be cool if it stripped enemies of Critical Strike Chance for a few seconds to give you and your allies a window to deal with fed enemies.

The only problems would be Yasuo and Tryndamere :/ Alternatively, it could reduce Critical Strike damage to like 50% instead of 100% for the duration.

Edit: OR the pulse could be much larger and create like a 0% Crit Chance field.

Kind of OP honestly. You have to think you're negating a massive amount of gold pretty much instantly. If someone has 100% crit, you're negating half of their items, probably more actually. Plus, if they had item 3508 , they would lose 20% CDR too, since they would lose crit. That's cool and all, but I think it would stupid hard to balance.

item 3036 Good Thing There Are no Items item 3071 That negate ''massive amounts of Gold'' from people's itemsets, right? item 3033

l Helios l4 votes

Are you really one to talk with your GP E? :P

OP is referencing a defensive item that would negate damage, those items are offensive ones that negate defensive stats. Also, they don't negate it entirely, as in it's no 100 - 0 change like the OP's proposal.

Gangplank on his own actually really struggles with tanks because of his lack of sustain damage. Getting a Lord Domniks on top of Powder keg's inbuild Armor ignore, now that's nasty.

OP gave a bunch of suggestions, not just one :P

l Helios l4 votes

I'm aware of that. I was just shit talking you.

The essence of his zrgument remains consistent, regardless of how you word it. It would be brutal against those using really high crit, and even worse against those with reaver.

If we make it a field, you would need to adequately communicate the field, maybe using something like Shen W. Further, you'd have to appreciate the zone control this item would offer. On someone like an ADC, if the tank with this new Randuin's dove them, the ADC would need to reposition entirely or lose a massive amount of damage. On someone like a Yasuo, he couldn't kill the ADC in the fight if they sat in the Randuin's zone, forcing him to either try and kill them, or focus someone else until the Randuin's active us gone.

It feels like all this would end up being is an item who's active needed to be baited, disengaged from, and then re-engaged on while it's down.

Sahn Uzal5 votes

I guess you earned yourself some downvotes with that :P And not even from me!

It would be an interactive Item-Active, which is awesome!

Because there's no champ or item Zilean that has abilities Kayle that we wait until Fizz we want Karthus to re-engage item 3107 on item 3026 am I Maokai right? Yasuo

To add my two cents, it's an item (item 3143) that's pretty underwhelming currently because the -10% is just nullified by the easy access to Armor Pen. It also makes sense because it feels fair for ADCs to not want to target the tanks instantly and makes them strategize rather then rightclick and kite; They can still do that, but now they have to worry about the tank closing gaps. runes and the like, and the fact that, lets acknowledge it, there aren't any Critical damage reduction runes, but there's critical strike runes? Yeah, giving it an active that can make a character who normally buys randiuns the ability to charge in for their team and tank a ton of shots, like Malphite, who sees barely any play and would experience a fresh breath of air to his kit. It would also help CC tanks who don't have quick dashes on limited target-ability get in without losing half of their HP to Vayne and Jhin poke, or Ashe crits, or Twitch ults.

First off, Ghostblade no longer gives AS.

I know how to build Gangplank and the fact that there is a lot of AS in there, but Gangplank is melee and won't usually be able to walk up to a tank and slap them to death, because that means GP exposes himself to the enemy carries PewPewing him to death.

No of course you just don't walk up to them. You blow your combo, they blow their CC, then you can walk right up to them and hack their kidneys out. You kill most tanks in 5 to 6 autos or less.

And it doesn't matter if GB lost it's AS from the active. The movement speed and the armor pen is more than enough reason to purchase it, despite the nerfs.

Attacking for more than just your passive is still quite risky, especially if the enemy team manages to organise themselves somewhat well

Velzard of Koz3 votes

Basically damage item that says Fck you to counterbuilding and deals more damage is fine but defensive item that protects you against certain mechanic, thus giving more defense is not? Note that both affect the enemy champ, not your damage/defense against them.

l Helios l2 votes

Follow me on this.

Tanks have high survivability but lower damage. ADCs have typically low survivability and very high damage. If you lower the damage of the ADC, the tank can win the fight just by virtue of high survivability. Keep in mind this is not even factoring in low utility of most ADCs and high utility of most tanks. An ADC who doesn't deal enough damage does nothing but die, no usefulness beyond doing what little damage they can and being a distraction. Tanks on the other hand, if they can't tank as much as they need to, still have their utility and CC to use, which can do enough for the team to win the fight.

Velzard of Koz2 votes

Yeah because ADCs are melee and cant kite. Since Juggernauts can fairly lower damage by their tankiness and still have nice damage, they are instawin against ADCs I suppose. Since kiting doesn't exist. And kiting is based on sustained damage, which can reach high values even when low is its base. The only problems are tanks like maokai who have way too much stickiness in that point-click gapcloser combined with stun.

It's fine. I don't even know why I'm here defending ADCs when I don't even like the role unless I get Draven.

They wouldn't lose CDR. It just would nullify your chance to crit that target. It has nothing to do with actually reducing your crit chance statistic.

Illâoi Evê Siôn1 votes

Our item version does reduce the Crit Chance to 0% for people like Shaco and Rengar. But it could just "block" criting, too, if that's better.

Yeah, that's way overtuned if it physically reduces your crit to 0. I can see nullifying crits against yourself or perhaps a single teammate. But it would have to be a short duration and very limited.

50000000000000002 votes

What if it was just 50% damage reduction from crits? Enemies can still crit for bonus effects (whether it's Yasuo R's bonus armor pen, Tryndamere's CD reduction, Ashe's extra slow, etc.), but the bonus damage would be reduced so that they'll basically do no bonus damage.

l Helios l2 votes

That would be better, but 50% is a lot of damage reduction. Moreover, it reduces the efficiency of IE passive that way, making IE only deal 125% damage per crit, versus 250%. That accounts to a 125% decrease in damage total (250% representing the total, and 125% being the amount lost, leaving 125% of the total as the damage being dealt). There are also factors of when this reduction is taking place; this could reduce the efficiency of item 3075 since the active isn't considering armor for the damage reflection.

I'm not trying to be a hard case, these are just real questions that would need to be addressed for this idea to go anywhere.

50000000000000002 votes

The original idea was to remove crit chance altogether, so I thought this would have the same effect (damage wise). We can just lower the reduction to 20~30%, or change the duration to balance it better.

l Helios l2 votes

In a sense it would.

The duration couldn't exceed 5 seconds imo, fights can usually be decided by that point.

Reduction would probably need to stay in that range.

Other issue I can think of is this item crowding out other armor items like item 3742 did on release.

Glory ln Death1 votes

It would be 175% damage with IE.

l Helios l1 votes

175 x 2 is 350. 125 x 2 is 250.

Glory ln Death1 votes

100% damage from the base attack damage, an additional 100% damage from the crit, and an additional 50% crit damage from Infinity Edge.

The total attack deals 250% damage, but only 150% is from the crit. 50% of 150 is 75. Add that to the base 100% damage for a total of 175% damage.

Unless of course y'all are talking about reducing the total damage from crits, including the base damage. But that would be retarded, since normal crits would then deal the same damage as normal attacks. Just reduce the bonus damage from the crits by 50%, not the entire attack.

You do so also by just ccing a fed enemy. This would be no different, just an alternative form of cc.

Why not just move Randuin's active to Frozen heart and give Randuins a new active, maybe even the active the OP is proposing.

I don't think guaranteed crits built into the kit would be effected, it'd be like having 0% in your crit chance stat.

The item would no longer hinder Anivia or Karthus, who have abilities countered by crit damage reduction (but not buffed by crit damage amplification. GG clarity...)

Sahn Uzal1 votes

Oh yeah that sounds fair. It would hard counter Gangplank though, since he doesn't consistantly crit like ADC's. A well timed randuins could cut his damage output in half o.o

God forbid tanks and juggernauts actually get a good fucking late game item.

Also, the max effective range on barrels far exceed the range of randuins active, you should get cucked if you get gapclosed.

Hey, I was just stating it would counter Gangplank, not saying it shouldn't be added or isn't a good idea or something. Sion is my top 2 highest mastery (after Gangplank) with ~130k. Other than that I have Rank 6 on Renekton, Rank 5 on Darius, Nautilus, Maokai, Malphite, Jarvan (Allthough I usually play him full AD), and have rank 4 on a bunch of other beefy champs. I'd love to see an item like that, even if it did counter my main.

To be honest, not sure why Riot'd buff Randuins that massively. It's not in a terrible spot right now, and just having the crit damage reduction passive has already cemented it as THE anti-crit item. It'd be an interesting change, but I don't know why they'd add it.

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

That item would be way too powerful, at least in my opinion. The new direction for ADC design by Riot is including the stat crit alot.

Caitlyn Jhin Quinn MissFortune Just to give some examples. It got even mentioned that they are thinking about adding a crit mechanic for a champ, who is struggling alot the last time: Kindred

So that item change wouldn't just lower their AA damage, a big part of their kit gets dragged down by losing the stat crit too.
