What do you mean its not about lore? Yasuo and Riven has conflicts in their story. And while Garen and Darius don't interact directly in their stories, they are both on the opposite sides of the conflict which makes a fight between them very plausible.
Anivia and Brand never interact and unless Anivia is hiding a World Rune up her ass its unlikely they would ever meet.

skins are alternative realities. versus events are skin based. so it's not about the lore. those 2 examples that you mentioned are just coincidentally both interactive in the lore and in the versus event because they were designed as counterparts.

7 years after the events of Viktor and Jayce's stories Viktor almost has the power to create his own race of technologically advanced creatures, yet needs one more piece, Jayce's brain, and his hammer. Jayce won't let this happen and has begun to create a suit for himself to protect himself from Viktor.
Viktor looks like a combination of his normal forme, but with a bit of red to signal his evolution to Creator Viktor. Jayce has a Project-y suit with /g capabilities to switch from having the helmet on or off.
Every time a Viktor kills a Jayce, Viktor gets a point. Every time a Jayce kills a Viktor, Jayce gets a point. Assists don't count. If Jayce wins, all Project Skins will go on sale for 50% off, and the top 100 people with the most Viktor kills on Jayce get a free Project Skin. If Viktor wins, all Battlecast Skins will go on sale for 50% off, and the top 100 people with the most Jayce kill with Viktor get a free Battlecast Skin.
Note: I know that it is not canon that these universes are connected / alternate versions of each other, yet it would be very interesting if Project was where Jayce won against Viktor and Battlecast was the other way around.
