DISCLAIMER

This concept is big. Really big. Focusing on the creation of an in-depth champion who is not only unique in playstyle, but also capable of evolving and changing their personality based on gameplay decisions the player makes as matches progress, O'decimus is intended to serve as an example of how plot can be conveyed - and perhaps even progress - through a moba-like game format.

For this reason, I have made a Table of Contents, which should make the task of navigating this beast much less daunting to the average reader. Passive bumps and spiteful criticism - even only on minor sections of the concept - is greatly appreciated, so don't hold back! Really rip into my self esteem!

I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing artistry of Ivana Lazić, better known on here as 333lom or Ikleyvey. The art used here was commissioned; and it is through her talented fingers that I am able to put an image to this character. She has an art blog Here, as well as a Deviantart account Here. I cannot endorse her enough, and urge anybody who likes her work to help support her budding aspirations towards a career in professional animation.

Seriously, she's a talented artist. Go check her out!

#Good Neighbour Bonus Post (For the CCOS)

#Destiny

A pretty word. In three short syllables, it twists one's perception of reality to cater to the intended, wrapping a comforting blanket of divine providence around their otherwise tedious and humdrum lives. From their perspective, they become intertwined with fate; placed seamlessly into existence to serve a grand - though often obscure - purpose. Something larger than themselves, capable of adding meaning to a world where, hence to, there was none. . #Perception

Another pretty word. For what, if anything, is stronger than the bond between a father and his son? Flesh made testament to the legacy of the man who came before him; carved out in the image of the one who gave him life. When the former looks into the eyes of the latter, he sees himself. And yet, another; Yearning to be taken care of. To grow. To learn. And, eventually, to perceive in his stead.

To perceive; to persevere. To follow one's fate to its inevitable finality. But how far could one truly be willing to go to achieve what they believe is right?

This is the story of an unparalleled resolve. Of one with the sheer insight required to Perceive and pursue his own fate. The story of a tragic hero; his free will corrupted and suppressed by the physical manifestation of a living, wild, magic that seeks to expand its insatiable influence across the waking world. A story of regret, of loss and of ascension at any cost. This, dear reader, is the story of...

#Prologue - Journey's End

The boy moaned faintly as he stirred in his sleep. His face was flushed, yet paling rapidly with each passing moment; the fleeting remnants of what may have once resembled vigour draining from his cheeks as he lay pressed upon the back of his father. A child of destiny, second - but first, a victim of the unrelenting force of the Shuriman Sun.

Behind closed eyes, he looked down upon the colourless landscape spread before him; twisted masses of tangled trees and crusted seas gazing back at him from miles below. Many times, he had lain here - set upon the sky as though the grieving moon of a barren world. But it would soon change. For in the distance, the signs were already mounting: A gaseous cloud of unrestrained potential, circling in upon itself and drawing the ire of the dead landscape. Before long, a light would form.

"... To become..."

It flickered - weakly at first; and defiant in the face of the encroaching blackness that threatened to subjugate the sky. And yet, even as the Shadows descended upon it, the light fought violently to retain its individuality; lashing out upon the clawed tendrils that sought to deny it the space to flourish.
Gritting his teeth, Malthael struggled to brace himself; coiling into a ball as the first of the shockwaves struck him effortlessly from the sky. Twisting in freefall, it was all he could do to maintain sight of the violently thrashing flame as it expanded out upon the horizon and toward the plains, below. A second shockwave erupted shortly afterward, fracturing the child's ribs. Then a third, tightening the squeeze on his throat. Above him, the sky danced in rabid fury; the flame-licked shadows passing the child in panicked retreat. Yet still, Malthael maintained his gaze. The overwhelming light - the razor-tipped flames that lined the sky and made to engulf this world in their own influence - they were calling his name.

... Malthael...

Tears flooding between narrowed eyelids, the child struggled to cry out, grasping in wild desperation toward the distant horizon...

... Malthael...!

...and from the depths of the encroaching fire, a twisting spiral of cinder and flame shot forth, dripping smoke and ash. As the embers fluttered toward the ground, the flames that had borne them ascended, igniting the already blazing sky. With every blink that the child made, flame turned to light, and light to colour; spreading out upon the once dulled landscape. As Malthael fell, so, too, did the light; And where the light fell, so, too, did life. And from nigh above it all, Malthael looked down upon the green and blue world given form before his eyes.

Can you feel it?

The boy tilted his head skyward once more, his vision enveloped by the incandescent glow of the burning sky lain out before him. He could feel it - the soothing warmth of the flames reaching out to touch him; washing over his frail body. Here, they cleansed him - alleviated his woes. His pain; his anguish - stolen away in a fleeting moment, to be replaced with a feeling of... security. Of belonging. A feeling of indescribable hope. There was a future for him here. A way out. If only he would... ask.

As though acting upon a will of its own, his arm relinquished its grip upon the shoulders of his father and extended forwards, grasping in vain at the distant light. It was strange... every time his fingers closed in around his palm, the flame... it seemed just a little bit closer...

... Malthael! Answer me!

The child's eyes jolted open in an instant. Unsteadily, he watched his arm drop back to its original position, wrapped tightly around the shoulders of his father. He had become cruelly accustomed to the sight.

Cursed from birth with a rare disease that ate away at the very marrow within his bones, the boy had never remembered being able to walk or play on his own. To think that his father would carry him this far, across and beyond the mountains that had once lined the horizon. He was looking back at him now, over his shoulder; his face a perfect picture of concern. So typical of him. Whereas the child's mother had spurned him for tiring of grief, his father still fretted. Still hoped. But Malthael...

"What is it? Are your arms tired?"

... The boy had long ago accepted his fate.

"Hold on, I'll find you somewhere to rest."

The father carefully gripped the boy and lowered him against an indent in the mountain-face, turning to ease the child into place. Lines of red ringed his eyes, and Malthael dared not look at him. Instead, the boy stared out over the ridge of the mountain - into the distant sky. But there was only sand. Sand for as far as the eye could see.

The man noticed his son's aversion and mirrored the gaze, turning to look out over the mountain pass and upon the blue skyline. As he did so, however, Malthael began to shiver.

...What would he do...?

"We're getting close, now, Malthael. I'm certain of it! If we push just a little harder... We can be over the horizon by sunset. There's not all that much land left before we reach the ocean..."

... What would he do when it didn't work? His father had barely said a word on the day that they had left... and, secretly, the boy had begun to wonder...

"Just imagine it... a seaside city one hundred - no - a thousand times bigger than any village you've ever seen... You said that you saw something that resembled a lighthouse, yes? Just like the ones in your books..."

... What if nothing could fix him?

... Would his father leave him here? Would he leave him all alone? To pass on the roadside; hundreds of miles from the only place in the world that he had ever called home? ... Would he hate him? His own son? For the grief and pain that he had wrought upon his family, he deserved to be hated. ... All the boy had ever been good for was heartache.

Tears trickling down his cheeks, Malthael's arm began to rise. Reaching out toward the horizon, the child begged. Malthael begged. He didn't want to die here, alone and afraid. He didn't understand what he had done, that it all had to be this way. And so he begged. For forgiveness; For atonement; For this to be real. His dreams...** let them be real**.

"Malthael!"

The child opened his eyes to find his small hand clasped in those of his father. Hanging his head, the boy stared aimlessly at the ground in silence... until, eventually, the father wrapped the child's arms around his shoulders, once more.

"... Let's keep moving."

Night and day, the pair continued into the desert in mutual silence. The sun was scalding; the night winds, chilling. So many times, Khalas thought he would collapse... and yet, somehow, he found it within himself to press onward, child wrenched upon his back; getting lighter with every passing day... ... He was so quiet, now. On the back of his neck, he felt Malthael breathing... the only sure sign that the boy was still alive... But it seemed almost like an eternity would pass between each breath.

In his dreams, the child saw his own salvation. He had to! Reaching out, each night, in the same direction - no matter where he faced; or how he was carried. The father had tested, and he knew it to be so. But now... it was as if he was going to keep on pointing out over the horizon forever. Even as they approached the shoreline, his arm maintained its grip upon the horizon... ... the boy would not survive a journey across the sea.

Dropping to his knees, the father screamed out in frustration. Hadn't he done as he was expected to? His name and his hands - stained by the life he'd lived in the service of a god who refused to answer him. Was this divine retribution? A punishment for turning his back on a world that had demanded his abject obedience? From the North-most peaks, to the Southern beaches. Had he been beckoned all this way - child in arms - as a lesson? As a symbol of what may become of others who tread a similar path? Or, worse...

... What if he'd failed all on his own?

Malthael stirred, behind him; hands still latched around his neck.

"... Father... I... I hate this place... I... I'm..."

Khalas continued staring at the sky.

"... I know. But... we have to rest here a little bit longer, okay? ... Just a little..."

Malthael breathed heavily into his father's shoulder and closed his eyes. In his mind, he could feel a familiar tug. But his arms... he hadn't the strength to move them. As he began to drift into unconsciousness, he thought about how warm he'd felt in his sleep... ... Would he feel like that all the time, if he could just stay that way? Perhaps...

...

Malthael's eyelids drifted open once more. This time, due to his father's shoulders moving up and down, erratically.

"... Father... I'm sorry..."

The father ceased his sobbing, but hesitated. From his shoulder, Malthael's arm began to rise...

"... I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused you until now... but..."

Shakily, the child's arm wrenched itself from the shoulder of his father. Clasping it with his own hand, Khalas shifted his place in the sand, helping the boy's arm remain rigid as it began to reach outwards; back towards the desert they'd already crossed, then up - towards the sky. As the child grasped one more time at the air afront him, his legs began to stir...

_"... I promise I won't make you sad anymore..." _

When the child's fingers flexed, the air before them began to part. And there, before the very eyes of his father, a brilliantly incandescent landscape unravelled; blanketed by the silhouette of his son. As his arm descended once more, the boy turned to face his father; his face flushed with colours just as vibrant as the land now lain out before them.

"... Malthael... you're...

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||The Musings of an Old Man |-

There is a saying that's grown popular over the past few generations. That "the road to hell is paved with pure intentions." It's an old saying. I'm not quite certain when it popped up, but it spread quickly. A poetic little musing; as though what were good and what were evil could be separate sides of the same coin, yet still be so synonymous with one another that, from one's own perspective, it were one and the same.

... I don't believe in that kind of thing.

There's a thing called choice, my dear. An element of wild inconsistency through which we can alter and shape the world around us. If I wanted to, I could burn this house to cinders, a handful of children just as small as you are, trapped hopelessly inside of it. I could exert my strength and crush every toy in this room. Every possession you've ever held dear. I could do this... but I don't. Because I, like you, see the inherent flaw in this apologetic phrase. I understand consequence. I understand empathy.

If one intends purity, then purity is what follows. Your toys are not broken. This house remains standing. Were I to claim to love you, then burn your friends and family before your very eyes, what possible intent could I have in mind beyond the sadistic?

Make no mistake - a man who paves himself a path to hell knows precisely where he is headed. When he acts, he acts with his ego. So long, has he been without true purpose that he has shed the need to justify his actions; and the most frightening thing about a man who no longer need justification for the crimes that he commits, my sweet, is that he isn't - not even in the slightest - afraid to drag any of us - all of us - along with him.

For people like him... there is no coming back. If you see him - when you see him - you run! As fast as you possibly can. Do not ever... ever attempt to reason with a monster as twisted as O'decimus...

#LOGIN THEME/SCREEN DESCRIPTION

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfCOUaW3jrI Example theme! Sad music. As the track goes on, it should transition from a regretful tone to that of conveyed resolve. This is the pivotal scene during which O'decimus gains the Acuity through which he may choose his own destiny.

The Login Screen begins blackened out, a distant ball of light in the upper right-most corner. As the login theme track winds up, the light flares and expands, illuminating the Spire it is connected to and spreading rapidly over the rest of the screen. In the foreground, O'decimus stands amidst a riling frenzy of flame, his right arm supporting the limp silhouette of a child, while his left remains by his side; furiously clenching and then unclenching at periodic intervals. Aside from this, O'decimus remains completely motionless and seems as though in deep and conflicted contemplation.

The background consists of a burning village. Clearly visible are a multitude of other victims - man and beast alike. A few straggling survivors surround the warrior, pointing their make-shift weapons with a combination of pure hatred and utter terror. Their expressions bely that they do not expect to survive this encounter.

Above the body of the child, a fractured, sparkling, ball of light hovers. O'decimus is staring at it intensely.

#PLAYSTYLE

O'decimus is an initially frail champion that becomes increasingly potent as the game progresses. Completely lacking a base regeneration rate, O'decimus instead relies on his ability to siphon power from the world around him; restoring either health or a new, unique, resource - Incandescence - whenever he successfully deals damage to his prey.

His passive comes in 3 forms; Curse of the Spire, Consumption and Acuity. Each passive represents a stage of his development over his millenia-long servitude, symbolising shackled restraint, steady growth and enlightenment. Whether O'decimus chooses to pursue his own fate or ultimately surrender to his Master's will is entirely up to the player, and will heavily impact their late-game role.

Boasting high build versatility, heavy counter-engage potential, the unprecedented option to buy up parts of the map for terrain bonuses and the ability to cheat death, itself, O'decimus best serves his team as a mid-line fighter and a front-line tank, casually blurring the lines between Fighter, Bruiser and Juggernaut.

#TRIUMVIRATE PASSIVES - Curse of the Spire // Consumption // Acuity

1) Curse of the Spire - O'decimus May Not passively regenerate HP or Incandescence. Instead, dealing physical damage to a foe will cause him to restore (Current level+4)% of either his max HP or Incandescence (whichever is currently a lower %) over 2.5 seconds. This effect may not stack or refresh, and must completely expire before it may be reapplied.

2) Consumption - Hostile units defeated within close vicinity of O'decimus increase his maximum Incandescence by 3. Successfully last-hitting minions and monsters doubles this value to 6, while Champion kills and assists grant O'decimus a total of 30 Incandescence.

3) Acuity - As O'decimus gradually harvests Incandescent light from fallen foes, he begins to take on their knowledge and aspirations, enabling him to view the world around himself with enlightened wisdom. While functioning above certain thresholds of Incandescence, he will gain new ability quirks and in-game quotes. Alternatively, O'decimus may instead choose to utilise the Incandescence he has garnered to expand his master's influence over the battlefield by purchasing plots of land and saturating them in the otherworldly glow of the Spire. While standing within the influence of these plots, O'decimus gains various benefits over time. A more in-depth explanation can be found at the bottom of O'decimus' ability list.

#Q - Vindication

PASSIVE Every second - or when struck by an enemy champion - O'decimus will generate 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 stacks of Vindication. For each whole stack, O'decimus gains a 65 pt increase to his standard attack range and deals (1% Max Incandescence)+(0.045 AP) bonus magic damage on-hit. Successful strikes against any target will halve O'decimus' current stack count.

◙ ACUITY BONUS ◙

  • While O'decimus is functioning at or above a threshold of 900 Maximum Incandescence and has 10 stacks of Vindication, he may make up to 3 successive strikes over 2 seconds before the stack count cuts in half.

ACTIVE

|Incandescence Cost--------------------------|Cooldown-----------------------------------|Cast Range--------------------------------| |- |20% Max Incandescence |17/15.5/14/12.5/11 |700 Units |Portal Width-----------------------------------------| |150 Units|

VIATICUM rends the air at the target location, revealing a narrow, two-faced, portal to the Lucent Plane for 3 seconds. The first 1/1/2/2/3 projectiles to enter this portal from the front or back are absorbed. Additionally, O'decimus' next attack will be empowered for 5 seconds. Empowered attacks cause VIATICUM to tear an exit portal at the intended target, dealing an additional (20% max Incandescence)+(60% total projectile damage)+(0.7AP) magic damage in a 225 unit radius after a short delay. This can be avoided.

Striking an enemy with an empowered attack will cause the initial portal to close prematurely.

◙ ACUITY BONUS ◙

  • While O'decimus is functioning at or above a threshold of 500 Maximum Incandescence, Portals will absorb minions within 300 units (range)!!! Minions will fly out from the impact point of an empowered strike moments before the initial burst of light. If no empowered strike is made before the effect expires, minions will instead reappear at the location they were absorbed.

#W - Incandescent Veil / Entranced Advance

◙ INCANDESCENT VEIL ◙

|Incandescence Cost-------------------------------------------------|Cooldown------------------------------------------------------------------| |- |25% Max Incandescence|14/13/12/11/10 (begins after veil shatters)

O'decimus wills a veil of light around himself, absorbing up to 15/30/50/75/110 (25% Max Incandescence)+(0.5 Bonus AD, 0.4 AP) damage over 2 seconds. Hostile Champions that attack him whilst the veil is in effect will be Marked By Light. For each marked target, an aspect of VIATICUM - a Ceremonial Dagger drowned in a deep and ominous black - will begin to orbit O'decimus after the veil shatters. Daggers will automatically expire after 3 seconds unless the player uses...

◙ ENTRANCED ADVANCE ◙

|Incandescence Cost--------------------------------------------------|Range-------------------------------------------------------------------------| |- |15% Max Incandescence|750 Units

VIATICUM launches its multiple aspects along the shattered remnants of the Incandescent Veil, targeting hostiles who are Marked By Light. Should a hostile target be struck by a Dagger, their movement speed will be reduced by 30/34/38/42/45% as they take (15% Max Incandescence)+(0.7 Bonus AD, 0.75 AP) magic damage over 3 seconds.

ABILITY NOTE: Ceremonial Daggers launch simultaneously and move Linearly. These should be avoidable with relative ease by moving horizontally at a moderate distance, as they are intended to be a disengage/counter-engage tool when ganked or targeted for an all-in. Non-Allied minions, monsters, pets and walls will block the path of the projectiles.

◙ ACUITY BONUS ◙

  • While O'decimus is functioning at or above 750 Maximum Incandescence, enemies will continue to be Marked By Light for up to 1.5 seconds after the Veil Shatters. No further Incandescence cost is applied to launch extra daggers that have spawned following an initial launch.
  • While functioning at or above 1150 Maximum Incandescence, orbiting daggers will strike nearby enemies, dealing NO damage, but applying the passive regenerative effects of Consumption to both O'decimus' HP and Incandescence simultaneously (If applicable.)

#E - Twisted Eclipse

|Incandescence Cost-------------------------|Cooldown------------------------------------|Cast Range---------------------------------| |- |30% Max Incandescence |18/17/16/15/14 |550 Units |Tendril AoE Range------------------------------|Flame Patch Width-------------------| |425 Units|55 Units

O'decimus hurls his greatblade, MALTHAEL, at the target location, driving it into the ground at an angle. For the next 5 seconds, enemies who step within range of the blade will cause MALTHAEL to expel sickly, dark, tendrils (think: Morgana's Soul Shackles, or Varus' Chain of Corruption). Enemies who remain in range of these tendrils for 1.25 seconds will combust in flame, taking 20/45/70/115/150 (15% Max Incandescence)+(0.8 Bonus AD, 0.75 AP) magic damage over 5 seconds. Here's where things get interesting!

Physical strikes made by O'decimus upon combusted foes will sever a portion of the flame, causing 2 flaming patches of fire to fly out onto the battlefield (Think: Zac's passive, or Draven's spinning axes). These patches of flame persist for up to 3 seconds, or until any hostile unit inadvertently (minions included) steps on them. Patches of flame will either extend current burns by 0.5 seconds, or burn non-combusted targets for 1/2 damage over 2.5 seconds

◙ ACUITY BONUS ◙ While functioning at or above 1000 Maximum Incandescence, hitting an enemy point-blank when thrusting MALTHAEL into the ground will cause them to instantly combust!

ABILITY NOTE: MALTHAEL's tendril range is off-centred, and will extend further forwards (in the direction the blade is leaning), than it can backwards. This is to provide hostiles with the opportunity to get in behind the blade and punish O'decimus in close-range skirmishes.

#R - Glorified Absolution!

|Incandescence Cost-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------------------|Cooldown---------------------------| |- |3% Max Incandescence per sec, per| channeller (see description) |210/170/115 |Cone of Light Arc(degrees)-----------------|Cone of Light Range--------------------|Channel Range------------------| |185 Units|600/750/900 Units| 300 Units

O'decimus calls upon the might of the Spire, rending the air directly behind him as VIATICUM draws the structure up from the very Earth - knocking enemies back as it rises - and functioning as 135 units of impassable terrain for the next 12 seconds. While active, the Spire will shine its light in an outwardly expanding cone, doubling the regen effects of Curse of the Spire and granting 1 free stack of Vindication per second while O'decimus remains in its cone of light.

  • Allies within range of the Spire may click on it to Beg For Aid, channelling pure light to heal their wounds at 3/6/9% of their maximum health per second, but draining Incandescence from O'decimus in the process. O'decimus MAY NOT channel or heal in this way. However...
  • if defeated within the light of the Spire, Odecimus will instead use 50% of his Maximum Incandescence to resurrect at the base of the structure with 20/35/50% (+Incandescence spent) hit points. Odecimus may resurrect multiple times in this way, but should he at any point exhaust his Incandescence, the effects of the Spire will end prematurely and it will descend back into the Earth, leaving him defenseless.

◙ ACUITY BONUS ◙ While functioning at or above 1500 Maximum Incandescence, O'decimus will permanently add 3% of his CURRENT (not maximum) Incandescence to his AD, AP and Armour values, and 1.5% to his BASE movement speed. ("I knew not buying any plots of land would pay off, eventually!") This bonus is doubled while within the light of the Spire during Glorified Absolution.

ABILITY NOTES

  • The spire will attempt to keep its light shining on O'decimus, and will rotate slowly while active (think: Half of Vel'Koz's turning speed while channelling his laser).
  • O'decimus may resurrect while below 50% Incandescence. However, as noted above, this will immediately cause the Spire to descend into the Earth and end its effect.

#The Pseudo-Science of Purchasing Land With Incandescence

http://i1317.photobucket.com/albums/t627/AllottedTimeframe/minimap%201_zps3men4h0f.jpg

There are 14 plots in all that O'decimus may conquer, each one denoted by either a line or a circle (most are technically ovals) in the map, above. When standing within the influence of an owned plot, O'decimus gains bonus 1 MS, 0.5% damage, 0.5% damage reduction and 1% Incandescence Consumption every second up to an initial max of 10 seconds (10 MS, 5% damage, 5% damage Reduction, 15% Incandescence Consumption). For every plot O'decimus conquers, 3 bonus seconds are stacked onto the max duration - along with an extra second upon owning all plots - bringing the grand total to 50 seconds' worth of bonuses (50 MS, 25% bonus damage, 25% dam reduc, 75% bonus Consumption).

While not within the influence of owned plots of land, bonuses will degrade at x2 speed. Additionally, the damage reduction effect functions on a separate counter - and is reduced by 5% each time O'decimus takes a hit from an enemy champion (shields break and have to regenerate!)

To conquer a plot of land, O'decimus must first offer 200 of his max Incandescence to VIATICUM at the store. This offering is PERMANENT, but will enable him to see and sever the 3 light fissures scattered about each plot. Upon severing all 3 fissures in a single plot with a standard attack, a final Rift will appear for 30 seconds. To complete the takeover of the plot, O'decimus must now channel his Master's Light for a full, 5, uninterrupted seconds. This Rift is entirely visible to hostiles, however, who may choose to impede the attempt. Completing the Channel within the allotted timeframe will award O'decimus a moderately high amount of EXP and permanently bathe the area in the glorious Light of the Spire. Failing to do so, however, will cause the plot to reset, respawning the initial 3 fissures and forcing O'decimus to try again.

NOTE: VIATICUM will not lose its power until O'decimus succeeds in taking over an area. As such, additional Incandescence offerings are not required upon failure. Just time... and patience.

O'decimus is the terrifying incarnation of an ancient warrior, conditioned by the Spire to strike fear and awe into the hearts and minds of those unfortunate enough to meet him. When he speaks, it is in a dark and menacing tone. When he yells, is is as though the very Earth trembles beneath him. The illusion of raw power that he emanates is contrived through his own willpower; a means by which to fool the gullible into acknowledging his presence as divine. After all - In death, a man's soul must seek out its final destination. Better in his hands, than surrendered to something innately incapable of thought...

Upon entering the Rift, he will appear weak and fragile; reflected in both stance and speech pattern as well as various in-game animations (such as when swinging his blade). He will seem exhausted; sympathetic. But willing to advance and pursue his goals at any cost and with unfaltering resolve.

  • While standing on a plot of land he has bathed in the light of his master, however, O'decimus becomes staunch and stalwart, giving off an intimidating sense of cold and cruel justice. No longer does Odecimus experience the toll of combat or the trifles of mortality. Nay: standing tall - and with a menacing stillness - he exudes both intensity and fierce decisiveness.

  • If functioning at or above 750 Max Incandescence, O'decimus will be bathed in perpetual light. Similar to above, he will appear powerful and motivated, but will speak with an authority that he could never have, before. He has severed the connection to his former Master, and plans to ascend and destroy Him once and for all. His quotes will reflect this.

AESTHETIC ABILITY BONUSES

  • While functioning above a threshold of 1500 Maximum Incandescence and using Glorified Absolution, the light atop the Spire will be missing and the stone pillar will be cracked, the cone of light flooding out onto the battlefield from its centre. Additionally, almost every instance in which O'decimus refers to the Spire ("He/Him/His/Your") is changed to refer to himself. The exceptions are quotes already earned through Incandescence and derogatory remarks.

  • While owning all 14 territories on the map, the abilities O'decimus uses will be tinted a bright green; and will visually appear more ferocious/overwhelming. Additionally, the light atop the Spire when using Glorified Absolution will resemble the silhouette of a human.

STANDARD ATTACK ANIMATION

  • O'decimus alternates between gauntlet swipes, utilising the power of the Spire to tear at the very foundation of his foes; and the fractional measures of Incandescence that sustain them. Where his arm swings, a deep blackness follows - distorting the air around it before filling up with light and dissipating. At medium-to-long distance, VIATICUM rends portals to bridge the gap, allowing O'decimus to strike his enemies at long distance. This attack is, for obvious reasons, fantastic at bypassing most wall abilities. However the strikes that exit the portal DO count as projectiles, and can be blocked upon re-entering this realm.

  • Upon reaching 10 stacks of Vindication, O'decimus draws the divine blade, MALTHAEL, from his back; grasping it tightly in his right hand. Functions similar to a standard strike, but will launch a wave of bright light at the target from the head of the great-blade. Similar to above, this strike counts as a projectile upon exiting a portal, and can be blocked by wall abilities in the same way.

  • If O'decimus has recently thrown MALTHAEL into the ground but has 10 stacks of Vindication, he will instead perform an uppercut, as opposed to a swipe. Perhaps a melee critical hit animation?

SHADOW

  • O'decimus does not have a shadow in the traditional sense. Instead, the area beneath him remains completely illuminated at all times. He may manipulate this shadow to disguise his presence or for aesthetic purposes, as is done with his /joke animation.

UPON STARTING A GAME

  • "A field of restrained magic... I shall free it."
  • "There is power in this era... I lay my claim."
  • "First... a sacrifice."
  • "This world has become tainted in His absence."
  • "The key to His advent rests in my hands."
  • "Every breath... A tribute to His divinity."

ATTACKING While outside the influence of the Spire

  • "... Free the light."
  • "Run..."
  • "An offering..."
  • "It... is not... enough!"
  • "Behind your eyes... a place to grow strong..."
  • "I... will not hesitate."
  • "It will not be much longer..."
  • "This will mean something... when I am done..."
  • Menacing/hungry: "... Light..."

While within the influence of the Spire/bathed in light

  • "Another empty Vessel."
  • "They can not resist me."
  • "You will be honoured in the shadows of their blood." / At 750 Incandescence: "Reveal to me the words of the ancients."
  • "Fall upon your knees and I will grant you eternity."
  • "It is far too late to run."
  • "With Your hands I smite the unworthy." At 750 Incandescence: "With these hands I smite the unworthy!"
  • "I can hear the dark behind your eyes."
  • "Submit! In you, He will grow."
  • "Blot out the sun!"
  • "I will not hesitate!"
  • "This one's fate is sealed."
  • "FEAR HIS BRILLIANCE!"
  • *"Your last moments approach. Commit them to memory."
  • *"There is precious little time. Speak... and utter His name."
  • At** 650**+ Max Incandescence: "Fingers enough to strangle a Shadow."
  • At 750+ Max Incandescence: "It does not comprehend its own insight!"
  • At 850+ Max Incandescence: "Witness the Hand of Divinity!!"

MOVEMENT* While outside the Influence of the Spire

  • "In Your name... I persist."
  • "Guiding Incandescence..."
  • "I will soon arrive."
  • "There are no heights that I would not climb..."
  • "Within me... may You flourish." / At 650 Incandescence: "Within me... may they find purpose."
  • "Show me the way..." / At 575 Incandescence: "I will find the way..."
  • "I will not blink." / At 350 Incandescence: "I... must not blink..."
  • "Remember... the faces of the fallen..."

While within the influence of the Spire/bathed in light

  • "In Your name." / At 750 Incandescence: "Blind. Blind and callous..!"
  • "Lead me." / At 750 Incandescence "Teach me."
  • "I will act as Your hand in this falsely illuminated wasteland." / At 750 Incandescence: "I will rend His means to this wasteland!"
  • "Blessed insight."
  • "I persist."
  • "Bring light to the darkness."
  • "Some may resist."
  • "Tear their false idols asunder." At 750 Incandescence: "Tear all false idols asunder."
  • "Lay in my shadow."
  • "In time, Your will shall enthral."
  • "I will not blink. I will not relent."
  • "I wonder, who will she send this time?"
  • At 750+ Max Incandescence: It would not comprehend its own insight!
  • At 1050+ Max Incandescence: "Clay to be moulded..."
  • At** 1250**+ Max Incandescence: "The fruitless pursuit of creation."
  • At 1500+ Max Incandescence: "This Insight... it isn't enough!!"

JOKE

O'decimus' illuminated shadow condenses into a ball, lazily floating in front of him and obscuring his vision. After trying in vain to see through the glare, he smashes the ball to the ground, causing it to shatter.

  • "Mortality - that's the joke. Hm, should probably try to keep it light."

  • "TAG! You're it! ...Oops. Uhh.... it was like that when I found it."

  • At 1500+ Max Incandescence: "Does it vex you? To see, but to be unable to intervene!"

  • If used within range of an enemy Leona Leona or Diana Diana, the ball of light will visually resemble the sun before it is knocked to the ground.

TAUNT

VIATICUM cleaves at the air afront Odecimus, causing a deep and dark dimensional tear. After a brief delay, light flows from the tear and onto the floor, likened to blood from a wound. Touching MALTHAEL to the rift, Odecimus replaces the missing light with that of the Spire, healing the tear and returning the environment to normal.

  • "This era overflows with false light."

  • "Where can they run, when the very shadows they cast leave them vulnerable to His influence?"

  • "Gluttony."

  • At 750+ Max Incandescence: "These tools... restrain me."

  • At 1500+ Max Incandescence: "I feel them... the stirrings of an ancient terror."

  • At 1500+ Max Incandescence: "What monstrosity stares back from beyond the darkness?"

  • Upon reaching 900 or more Incandescence, the white light that flows from the tear will tint a weak red and begin to darken, slowly growing blacker and blacker as O'decimus stacks Incandescence, until finishing its transformation at 1600 Incandescence and becoming a pure and unnatural black.

DANCE

O'decimus pierces his hand through the air, conjuring a rift through the fade and gazing inside. If the /dance persists for 3 seconds, O'decimus will reach into the rift and pull an Incandescent manifestation of a woman through to his side of the portal, where they will lean in close to one another and begin to waltz.

  • If the waltz animation is cancelled prematurely, the manifestation of the woman will shatter in Odecimus' hands, and the rift will close.

  • If the waltz persists for a full 10 seconds, the woman will longingly retreat back through the rift, closing it behind her as O'decimus' hand remains outstretched. Only when the rift has closed entirely, will O'decimus allow his arm to fall his side. Head inclined in sorrow, the warrior will cry out in anguished rage before resuming his normal stance.

  • Upon reaching 700 or more Incandescence, the manifestation O'decimus draws through the portal will be a young child. Skipping around the warrior, the child will age and grow, blossoming into a woman over 5 seconds. At this point, she will stop skipping; instead pacing slowly - almost seductively - around him, as her Incandescent hand lightly brushes his chestplate and shoulder.

  • If the dance persists for a full 10 seconds, the woman will lean in over the shoulders of the perplexed warrior, before whispering something intangible and shattering.

When attacking with 10 stacks of Vindication

  • "MALTHAEL!"
  • "None will escape... NONE WILL SURVIVE!"
  • "There is no limit to His power!"
  • "Revel! Revel in the GLORY of the light!"
  • "BEND YOUR KNEES AND TREMBLE!!"
  • "YOU FOOL! It has already taken root!"
  • "YOU FOOL! It has already begun!!"
  • "Rejoice in His touch!"
  • "Plead for His mercy!"
  • With 650+ Incandescence: "I foresee your every movement."

  • With 650+ Incandescence: "Soon you will understand."
  • With 1000+ Incandescence: "Let wide the doors to creation!"
  • With 1150+ Incandescence: "Discard your shell and aspire to true potential!"
  • With 1500+ Incandescence: "LIMITLESS POWER!!" (Emperor Palpatine rules)

When attacking Diana or Leona with 10 stacks of Vindication

  • "UTTER FUTILITY!"
  • "You will not impede me!" // At** 750** Incandescence: "You CAN NOT impede me!"
  • "I will cleanse this wasteland!"

  • With 550+ Incandescence: "You WASTE your potential!"
  • With 550+ Incandescence: "Blinded by ignorance!"

  • With 1500+ Incandescence: "The things I can show you..."

Upon using Entranced Advance

  • (Sinister, unintelligible, whispers.)
  • (Disquieting screech as sound barrier is broken)
  • With 750+ Incandescence: Whispers persist for ability duration if daggers make contact with their target.
  • With 1100+ Incandescence: Whispers become words ("Become" / "To Be"/ "Individuality" / "Selfness" / "I am" / "I yearn" / "Slow down" / "I'm here" / "Please...")

Upon using Twisted Eclipse

  • "Rrrargh!"
  • "Crumble!"
  • "Drown in flame!"
  • "Die!"
  • With 750+ Incandescence: "Useless Trinket!"
  • With 750+ Incandescence: "Deceiver!"
  • With 1100+ Incandescence: "May you ROT!"

Upon using Glorified Absolution

  • "HE ENTERS YOUR REALM! TREMBLE!"
  • "THERE IS NO HOPE FOR REDEMPTION!"
  • "THEY SHALL BE BATHED IN THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRE!"
  • "I feel... I.... GROW! HE COMES!!" (Irrelevant after 750 Incandescence)
  • With 750+ Incandescence: "TURN AND FACE THE HAND OF DIVINITY!"
  • With 750+ Incandescence: "GAZE UPON THE TRUE FACE OF DIVINITY!"

  • With 1250+ Incandescence: "SEE HOW REALITY ITSELF RENDS BEFORE MY VOICE!!"
  • With 1600+ Incandescence: "You... each and all... have a part to play..."
  • With 1600+ Incandescence: "Help me. Aid me. Together... we will ALL draw him forth..."

Taunting an enemy Brand Brand

  • "Abomination."
  • "A false flame. But easily extinguished."
  • "This one is unable to further Your cause. In Your name, its cinders will become ash!" (Irrelevant after 750+ Incandescence)
  • With 750+ Incandescence: "Destructive impulses. Ignorant objectives. Perhaps you should have been His champion."

Taunting an enemy Nocturne Nocturne

  • "The shadows you cast are great, demon."
  • "This one's cup is empty."
  • "Revel, demon! In your destruction, His influence will grow."
  • "This one. A veritable feast all on its own." / With 750+ Incandescence: "Even now, I can feel Him salivating at your presence!"
  • With 1600+ Incandescence: "What is a journey... without a guide? Prepare yourself, wretch!"

Taunting an enemy Karthus Karthus

  • "Your attempts at trickery are fruitless! I am not so easily turned away."
  • "This one is not Incandescent... and yet..."
  • "What am I facing?"

UPON RECALLING VIATICUM begins to tear at the air, cleaving a rift that vividly displays a stone and mortar city saturated by pure light. As the recall animation nears completion, the blade will dissipate and the warrior will step one foot through the portal. Pausing to take one last look behind him, O'decimus will speak before continuing through the rift and disappearing:

  • With 600+ Incandescence: "A blade that may sever light..."
  • With 650+ Incandescence: "...Before the end... there is one more thing I need, know. ...Malthael."

#Closing Statement

O'decimus! Hero, monster, saviour! At least, that's what He thinks. Well, as far as anyone can guess.

Thanks to everyone who read this far! I swear I'll make a real closing statement (a more AESTHETICALLY PLEASING one, at that) as the concept nears total completion. I'm dying to do the quotes between he, Leona and Diana; and intend to do an 'apocalyptic' story based around the 3 as, like, some kind of additional lore sub-paragraph. So we'll see how that goes.

In the meantime, what did you think of O'decimus? Severed Hand of the Spire, capable of choosing his own destiny. Will you serve your master, or destroy his link to this reality in order to take his place?! Heck, do you even care? Or are you just in it for the stats?! I know the story's kind've vague in regards to your/His ambitions at this point, but that'll change.

Be sure to let me know what you think, below. Your input fuels my creativity! And be sure to check out Ikleyvey's art blogs! She's awesome. Did you know she's doing a Viktor/Jayce comic?

...Why am I treating this like a two way conversation?

I dont understand why people do all these stuff when its obvious that riot never adds fanmade champions

I really love the build of this concept. Its neat and you can see that you put a lot of work in it. Just one thing keeps me from reading it all....It's WAAAAAAAAAAY to complicated for league....no offence, really you did an awesome job with this and none of my own concepts can even compare to your work....but the huge amount of things and possibilities that this character brings with him is just...too much to even consider for this game....you should send it to a game developer and have them make a whole game for this one character cus it needs its own stage XD

I really like this champion concept. I don't even need to tell you how in depth this is, it's a new meaning of in depth. I'm not sure about how every game he changes his destiny, doesn't really fit league. I really like this idea tho. I think you'd be a pro if you made a story and art post. I'm not sure also he fits the assassin theme as he has no gapcloser and not a lot of burst. The ult is pretty cool btw. Nice concept, this has inspired me just now of a concept. Overall this concept is pretty cool, could work very well, and deserves more attention.

Idk if you mind looking at my concepts: Gundari, Avatar of the Fire King Katyani, Arbiter of the Great Barrier Mardok, the Grim Reeler (Champion revival)

Awesome champion, looks pretty bad ass. curious, what program did you use to create his character?

Very Epic Guy1/22/2016, 1:16:46 PM1 votes

Malthael? Do I hear a bit of Diablo reference happening here?

ModEchoing1/26/2016, 8:53:09 PM1 votes

That is honestly way more effort and detail put into a champion than I'd ever do.

Length isn't actually a good thing. You want things as short as possible so everyone can easily read all the important stuff. Your abilities should not be so overly complex or wordy in description that you need an entire paragraph for each ability.

You've just got way too much stuff going on right now. You're resourceless (Incandescence is not gating your normal kit in any way), you're healing part of your HP on every hit, you've got all sorts of added effects on your abilities, multiple passives that overcomplicate gameplay...This is not a healthy champion, regardless of any numbers on him (and I can't parse the numbers as a whole because there is just too much stuff to go through). No one's going to be able to figure this guy out at first glance.

Recommendation: Start cutting. You don't need all this stuff. Get down to the core elements of O'Decimus (which is a very weird name) and focus on those exclusively. I don't mean to brag, but take a look at how I describe my abilities on my own concept - it's barely a couple of lines, with all the technical data in its own section, making it easy to read and parse in the context of everything else. Cut down on the excess words - if you can say the same thing in 8 words instead of 20, it's better. Trim off excess effects that aren't core to what the champion does - the flaming patches on hit with the E if the tendril thing goes off is a perfect example. You've got the effort and willpower there, you just need to buckle down and focus on what's worth keeping.
