[Champion Concept] Vaughan, The Renegade Insurgent

The Anagram King·5/7/2017, 8:00:59 PM·8 votes·2,008 views

Inadvertently freed by Jarvan II during an operation to liberate the Noxian gladiator, Xin Zhao, from the Noxian Fleshing Arena, Vaughan may very well be one of the darker stains on Demacian history. Charismatic, cunning and thoroughly martially adept, confirmed sightings of the former prisoner are far and few between; oft following reports of widespread insurrection or the agricultural destruction of entire provinces.

Considered a "low priority threat" due to his indiscriminate targeting method, Demacia had all but deigned the Renegade to be as much of a problem for other nations as their own and, thus, not worth pursuing. But in lieu of the recent attempt on the life of Jarvan II's son, Jarvan III, in broad daylight, the nobility have finally taken notice; mobilising in the hundreds to secure the head of the assassin who very nearly murdered their king.

But Demacia has long relied on its reputation as an infallible beacon of justice in order to suppress the voices of those crushed beneath their boot. If one man can oppose one broken system, then why not another? Why not a thousand? And if not even Vaughan has an end goal in mind, what could a successful string of insurgencies mean for the rest of Valoran?

⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦⁦ ⁦ ⁦ More importantly... who would be left standing after the dust settles?

Nestled 'neath the towering shade of a slurry of decaying ideals, these people go about ⁦their merry business; trying desperately to wedge themselves into the gap oh so generously provided by the society that nurses them. Man and woman, alike - they fuss from destination to destination, eager to fulfil what trivial obligations bind them; desperate to hold on to whatever tiny slice of self-worth they find comfort in. More drone, than person; self-deluded into believing their own worth, a prize to be earned from the nobility lording over them. The irony! All the while, their children scamper ignorantly about the streets with not a care in the world. Dumb little beasts, but happy. And oh so ignorant.

How vulnerable they all are. How naive! Structure. Security. They crave it. Yet loathe it! And it's always so easy to draw them in; to give them a taste of the freedom they yearn for. How quickly, motivation can give way to momentum: set on a course that not one man has the wherewithall to steer away from - for fear of reprimand! Of scorn! A commendable defense instinct, to blend in with the crowd. Hah! ... I wonder if they'll learn their lesson?

Both a master manipulator and a battle-seasoned fighter, Vaughan was groomed from his infancy to be a contestant in the Noxian Fleshing; a brutal event that pits fighters against a steadily increasing number of foes over a series of contests, until they inevitably die in glorious combat.

Aspiring to be more than a piece of meat thrown to the wolves, Vaughan engineered the death of his master, shockingly escaping his obligations to pursue a new life in the criminal underbelly of the city. As time passed, he gradually cultivated a reputation that extended even beyond Noxian borders as a ruthless and bloodthirsty gang boss, but ambition got the better of him; and a successful attack on a Noxian military caravan would inevitably result in his re-incarceration and, ultimately, reassignment to the Fleshing Arena as a member of an utterly absurd contest in which he and 299 other men would face the current champion - a man named Viscero.

As luck would have it, the sheer inane grandeur of this event would attract the Demacian King, Jarvan II, himself, to attempt to free the Pit Champion and secure his loyalty. This was quite the development and, in it, Vaughan saw an opportunity - a chance to seize not only his freedom, but his future:

⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦The chance to fell the King of Demacia.

From the corpse of a felled Noxian soldier, Vaughan liberated a crossbow loaded with a single poison-tipped dart; hastily taking aim on the King's exposed flank. The resulting shot was true; likely to have made contact with the King, had the newly recruited Viscero not taken the dart on Jarvan III's behalf.

Watching the former Arena champion slump over was almost as satisfying as hitting the King himself, however - and Vaughan would retreat into the throngs of the panicked citizenry fleeing the arena, a self-satisfied grin plastered on his face in spite of the opportunity that had narrowly slipped through his fingers. As Jarvan turned to witness the identity of his would-be assassin, Vaughan would raise his arm...

Vaughan is best described as a walking chaos monsoon. Decked Out with a low-cooldown, high-impact kit that focuses primarily on counter-engage tactics and breathtaking escape manoeuvres, Vaughan also doubles as a versatile saboteur; capable of playing cruel pranks on an uncoordinated enemy.

Vaughan's Passive, Trahison Des Clercs arms Vaughan with Glitterbombs - silencing, asphyxiating, powder capsules that detonate automatically when using certain abilities, or upon being caught off-guard by a hidden foe in close proximity. Used in collaboration with his Q to evade foes and crowd control, or his W to sew chaos, then follow up by rending his enemies to pieces, it becomes quickly apparent that Vaughan is not only slippery... but incredibly dangerous when left to his own devices.

His E, Clustering Decoy Toils focus on ingenuity; something Vaughan possesses in spades. Depending on the terrain on which he stands, Vaughan can set bushes ablaze, block rivers with foam, detonate bombs inside bases or litter the ground with nails. But it is through his ultimate, Revolution!, that Vaughan shines brightest; pulling down enemy turrets, stalling the respawn of enemy inhibitors, detonating explosives to steal jungle monsters - even turning minions against their masters!

Yes, sir - whether leapfrogging enemies, foaming up rivers, yanking down turrets, blowing up barons, or just going all-out renegade on some poor support in the back line, Vaughan has all the tools he needs to excel. All it takes is an opportunistic eye, a careful hand and a whole lotta' skin packs!

Speaking of...

⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦SKIN PACKS

As any insurgent worth their salt will tell you, it's important to look the part if you plan to achieve your revolutionary goals. And Vaughan? Well, when it comes to revolutions, he's a veteran.

Whenever Vaughan returns to the respawn platform, he will switch out his current costume for another, pulling his attire (including interchangeable weapons) straight from the player's own skin collection. Oh, and what a collection! Each skin pack purchased by a player will provide Vaughan with two new, unique, skins - each one fine tailored to either blend in with the population, or inspire fervour amongst revolutionaries on the battlefield.

Whether Soldier or Merchant; Noble or Peasant; Man or Woman; Vaughan embodies the Rebellion. To him... there is nothing else.

Whenever Vaughan uses his Q, W or is caught off guard by an opponent, he will detonate a Glitterbomb at his current location, expelling an asphyxiating powder cloud that silences foes and persists for 0.5 seconds. Vaughan also deals 25% of the damage he takes from minions or monsters as a flat value to nearby enemies and structures.

  • Vaughan will count as caught off guard if he gains vision of a foe while they are in his passive radius. In order to trigger on a foe, Vaughan must not have had personal vision of that particular foe for 10 seconds (enemies viewed by wards or teammates do not count).

For the next 2/2.25/2.5/2.75/3 seconds (+1 second per Glitterbomb detonated during this period), Vaughan pushes through crowd control, gaining 100% bonus tenacity that decreases to 0% over the duration, based on time remaining. During this time, Vaughan may reactivate Disassociation while in melee range of an enemy champion to leapfrog a considerable distance over his target in a straight line, tethering himself to the champion, with his grapple, for the remainder of the ability duration. Vaughan will detonate a glitterbomb when he lands.

  • Vaughan can leapfrog while displaced and gains brief untargetability when the jump begins, enabling him to evade damage from on-contact abilities (ie: Rammus' ram, Lee's Q dive) if he reacts quickly enough.
  • Tethered players who attempt to exit the tether radius pull their opponent slightly inwards (this can happen to both players at once). Reactivating Disassociation a third time while still a moderate distance from the target will cause Vaughan to use his grapple to Swing around and behind his tethered target. Swing arc and distance travelled increases, the further Vaughan is from his tethered target. Colliding with non-tethered champions while Swinging will deal 50/110/170/230/290 (+0.7 AD) damage and knock them aside.

For the next 3.5 seconds, Vaughan's attacks deal 25/20/15/10/5% less damage and apply stacks to their targets.

  • At the end of the duration, successive auto attacks made against a stack-bearing target will cause Vaughan to dash a short distance and consume up to 2/2/3/3/4 stacks per hit to deal 60/65/70/75/80% bonus damage, per stack consumed.
  • Stacks can be applied to multiple opponents. The first stack - and every 5th stack - applied to any single Champion will cause Vaughan to detonate a Glitterbomb and apply 1 bonus stack.
  • All stacks on a target will dissipate after 12 seconds if no new stacks are added or consumed.

Vaughan throws 1 of 4 toils into the air, directly above him, where they hang briefly before falling to the ground and activating. Ability used is determined by the terrain he is standing on.

  • Grass/Ground - Bed of Nails: 30/35/40/45/50% slow and 100/170/240/310/380 (+0.2 AD) damage over 7 seconds. Moderate area of effect.
  • Bushes - Incendiary Toil: 120/240/360/480/700 damage (+0.7 AP) over 5 seconds. Wide area of effect, but does not burn or do damage outside of bushes.
  • River - Sticky Foam: 70/75/80/85/90% slow. Fairly narrow column of foam that bridges from one river wall to the other. Spread can be impeded by terrain modifiers (such as J4's ult or Ivern's bush). Obscures vision.
  • Base - Nailbomb: Bounces in place for 2 seconds, then explodes. Deals 70/125/180/235/290 (+0.5 AP) damage and slightly knocks targets back from burst point.

Vaughan begins the game with 1 point in his ultimate ability, Revolution. Revolution has a variety of different functions, depending on the target.

  • Enemy Turret = After a brief set-up period, Vaughan hooks his grapple to the target turret and tries to topple it, periodically dealing his standard attack damage x(1.25/1.5/1.75/2) from a distance at a rate equal to his attack speed. Allies who stand adjacent to Vaughan during this time will add to the strength of the pull, channelling to add their own damage to each tic of the ability. Damage is increased by 15% for each ally channel. Upon successfully pulling down a turret, Vaughan will gain a stack of Battlefield Momentum and inspire nearby allies for 8 seconds. Inspired allies gain 15% bonus MS. If Vaughan is stunned, knocked back, suppressed or takes damage from the turret, he will automatically cease pulling; and the bar will empty.

  • Large Monster or Higher = Vaughan fits an explosive to the target Large or Epic monster, indicated by a 'dynamite' icon above their head. If the monster falls below 25/40/45/70% hp (halved for epic monsters), a 6-second countdown timer will begin. Monsters not defeated before the timer expires will be destroyed by the blast, awarding Vaughan all the relevant benefits and a stack of Battlefield Momentum.

  • Broken Enemy Inhibitor = Vaughan places an inhibitor inhibitor on the enemy inhibitor! When the 'ally/enemy inhibitor is about to respawn' message begins to play, it will instead be cut short by the crackle of static and surrounded by violent sparks, increasing the inhibitor respawn delay by 15/20/25/30 seconds and awarding Vaughan a stack of Battlefield Momentum. Enemy minions and champions who pass by the inhibitor during this time will take 3/4.5/6/7.5% Current HP damage every second, until the sparks clear (max 4 targets at any one time, prioritising enemies closest to inhibitor)

  • Ally Turret = Vaughan arms the current turret with a temporary arsenal. When the turret gains vision of an enemy unit, this arsenal will charge up for 5 seconds. If there are still enemies in range when the charge is finished, the turret will unleash a devastating cone of energy that kills all enemy minions in range and applies a 1/1.75/2.5/3.25 second stun to enemy champions. If the blast kills 10 or more minions, or a stunned champion is killed within 10 seconds, Vaughan will gain a stack of Battlefield Momentum. Turrets do not cease normal attacks while "charging up".

  • Ally under Crowd Control Effects = Vaughan tosses a glamour bomb at a nearby CCed ally (Range: 800) camouflaging them and inflicting darkness upon enemies within 325 units for 1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, Vaughan's team gains 5/10/20/40% movement speed while moving towards affected ally/enemy champions. Vaughan gains a stack of Battlefield Momentum for each affected enemy defeated within 10 seconds.

  • While within a crowd of 5 or more minions/monsters = Vaughan riles up nearby enemy minions or monsters, turning the chaos to his advantage and camouflaging for 1.5/3/4.5/6 seconds. Frenzied monsters/minions that remain within a 550 unit radius of Vaughan will deal 10/35/60/85% bonus damage, prioritise enemy champions and will not attack Vaughan or his teammates for 6 seconds.

RECALL ANIMATION

Vaughan surveys his surroundings for a means of 'escape' amidst loud mob chants. The method of escape differs depending on his immediate terrain.

  • Near Wall - Throws grapple at wall, then scales it.
  • Near Bush - Casually spins, then darts into bush.
  • Near River - Procures reed to breathe through, then sinks nonchalantly into river. Reed is visible for a period.
  • Anywhere Else - Detonates a glamour-bomb with extra glitterbomb sparkly particles (obviously visuals only)

TAUNT

Vaughan pirouettes on one leg whilst entwining himself in his grapple. For a brief moment, he pretends to be trapped, before allowing the rope to loose and shrugging, dismissively.

  • "Oh no! You caught me! What will I do now?!"
  • "Now's our chance! Quick - grab him! ...awwww, too bad."

The room was dimly lit; two silhouettes fading in and out of vision as a flickering candle burned its last upon a rattling tabletop. The first of the two stared up at the ceiling of the unkempt store room, dust and dirt falling from various cracks and crevices as the chanting outside increased in volume.

"...Do you see that? The very castle is shaking with their voices! They're banging on the doors! This could be... no, this is it, brother! The dawning of a brand new age!"

_Raving, riling... yes... he could hear them - the peasantry of the great and proud Demacian shield, their society slowly crumbling at its very seams; though none of them seemed able to understand why. Suggestive influences and unanswered questions - that's all it took. Wrought by distress and dissolution, they were so eager to speak out against the injustices perpetrated by their nobility, that they wouldn't even ask why. It was an ugly fact of existence - the world could only function under the blanket of its own delusional perceptions of truth and justice. The only difference between this broken nation and its ugly stepbrother in Noxus was the form that this justice took. Oh yes, take the veil down, and paranoia would always set in. Piece by tiny piece, it had been whittled away; and the proud ideals that the peasantry had lived by for so long, so loyally, had been soured with a toxic taint in their memory. They were hungry. They were angry. But this would not last for long. Hatred; despair; boredom; it was never self-sustaining. They always needed more - a symbol to rally behind; a key to the latch on the floodgates. What they needed... _

The soft footfall of leather upon the crimson carpet that lined the limestone floor echoed, audibly, throughout the family halls of House Kingreverence, as Fiora took her very first steps into the expansive palace. She was not impressed.

The walls and floors had been decorated as though with the intent to affront the eyes; dashing - if not clashing - colours and mis-placed furniture, cruelly accentuated with generous use of the Family Insignium in any location the space seemed to allow. Amidst this, the only saving grace - that there were no others in in the hall to bang their knees or collapse when treading carelessly upon a wayward curtain. Behind her, a member of the entourage that had accompanied her, groaned.

".. this is..."

Fiora "Who is it, precisely, that I am being announced to?"

The attendant's face was flush. Surveying the room, he could not help but break into a sweat under the scrutiny of the Master of House Laurent's gaze. But then, suddenly, relief dawned in his eyes; for, with all the urgency of a man waiting for paint to dry, a second attendant paced, dutifully, down the main hall stairs.

"Mistress Laurent?"

Fiora "Master."

"Of course. Aldrick Kingreverence is currently entertaining guests on the palace grounds. If you and your escort will kindly follow me..?"

I'll never forget the look on his eyes as the knife pierced his gullet. Shock, despair... regret. No doubt he would have asked why, had he not begun to suffocate in his own juices. Or, perhaps, he might have apologised. For failing me. For failing himself. He was, after all, a good man. So far as "good" can be measured. Sheltering the ill and invalid, lending beds to petty criminals who would otherwise lose limb and life to the state.

Yes, the proud Damacian state. Rigid. Paranoid. Prejudiced.

The man had despised it. He had defied it. For he was fool; but a perceptive one. He had become a man of law; intent to join the court and reverse the damage he'd seen done to his country, through his lifetime. But he did not succeed. He was despised; ostracised. A world as black and white as Demacia had no place for philosophers. He aged. He never married. And it was grief that compelled him to adopt and legitimise a son.

As he slumped to his knees, then toppled to his chest, he stretched his hand out, towards me. I took it and smiled.

⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ ⁦ "Rest easy, father. What you've given me, tonight... will change this country."

Fiora's eyes adjusted to the midday sun as she and her escort were led out of the overgrowth of the Palace Garden, "Garden", being a term she used loosely. It was nothing more than a glorified maze; overgrown with trees, hedges and thorned bushes. Come to think of it, nobody actually knew, precisely, what had happened to Foley Kingreverence - the previous head of the household. Having, herself, experienced the garden he supposedly tended, however, a rather morbid guess had had crept, conspiratorially, into her mind.

"Introducing the head of House Laurent, Master Fiora Laurent!"

For the second time this day, Fiora's arrival was announced. And, for the second time, it went unnoticed; falling deaf upon the collective ears of a large gathering on the far side of what could only be described as a misplaced, second courtyard. Sounds of steel, clashing, were barely audible over the cheers of the assembled nobility.

Behind her, the attendant cleared his throat, once more. Fiora raised her hand and shook her head, moving, in stride, toward the source of the crowd's excitement.

"Cease your flourishing, you nitwit! Why, if this were a real fight, you'd be run through seven times over by now!" "I suppose your girth gives you an advantage in that regard. There's not a sword in all of Valoran thick enough to pierce your fat stomach!"

Laughter and applause erupted as Fiora pushed her way to the front of the crowd in time to see the chubbier contestant prodded, inexpertly, in the gut. Laughing between wheezing breaths, he gripped the fencing blade with his right palm, then the arm of his opponent with the second; drawing him into a friendly embrace.

"A marvellous thrust, Eigdar! Truly, you are the heir to your father's legacy!" "You're not so bad, yourself! Deceptively quick, for a ball of meat and gravy."

And, in that moment, another chorus of laughs erupted, amidst a rumbling applause. But whatever enthusiasm was washing over the crowd was lost on the Grand Duellist, for, behind her, Fiora was aware of a hand; drifting precariously close to her--

I really, really want to like this with how much effort you've sunk into this.

Let's start with the lore, since you're in the CCOS.

It's not that Demacia can't fail, it's that Demacia cannot be so stupid as to brazenly ignore a guy that runs around ruining entire provinces. Any self-respecting city worth a damn can't ignore a threat like that, and Demacia's advanced enough, complete with its own black ops unit of sorts, that it'd end Vaughan for that reason alone.

Never mind the problems inherent in trying to assassinate Jarvan III in broad daylight. This reveals several things:

A: Vaughan SUCKS at being an assassin since he does so in the most unsubtle way possible that would get him killed. B: Vaughan SUCKS at being an assassin even more since he FAILED to kill Jarvan III. C: Demacia is apparently so inept that they can't even catch this guy after he leaves himself open in the most obvious way.

The lore as a whole paints an unflattering picture of Demacia and inadvertently downplays Vaughan by making him out to be rather terrible at what he's supposed to be doing. I strongly recommend reading the recent Demacia lore before refining your lore, since a "revolutionary" could work without having to unnecessarily demonize/stupefy Demacia.

On that note, the kit.

That passive is bad and tells me that you're trying to cheat the requirements of a jungler by leeching exp from lane so you're not actually set behind when you gank and fail to secure a kill. It doesn't help you when you come in for a gank because you shouldn't be there long enough to benefit from more than one or two kills, and doesn't help you get a kill. It does help you jungle because you are a dirty cheater that has to reflect damage onto monsters to compensate for unoptimized kit design.

The glitterbomb obnoxiousness is just that - obnoxious. Spamming silences on basic ability use, even for a half-second, is incredibly powerful due to how it can lock up combo casters and deactivate channeled abilities.

More importantly, though, this doesn't really build upon your super-vague revolutionary theme. Partly, you're hamstrung by how "revolutionary" doesn't really mandate anything, but when the passive can't even make sense within that broad category, you've got a problem.

The Q is obnoxious for everyone involved. No one likes seeing their CC blocked - which is peculiar in how unnecessarily specific it is instead of just being an all-around spell shield. Meanwhile, you end up with a gap-closer...that requires you to touch your enemy? This is incredibly self-defeating and, while very flashy, suicidal, as your jump range is so long you'll end up jumping into a tower or the rest of the enemy team, whereupon you will be CCed and your failure will be complete. The tether effect is ultimately meaningless due to the absurdly long range of the tether, yet it's there as another thing to keep track of on an ability with so many different moving parts.

It also still doesn't play into the revolutionary theme. While a grapple might be a handy thing to have for a revolutionary, a grapple that requires you to RAM YOUR TARGET to apply is significantly less handy.

The W is...bad. Before you get any AD, you're going to be penalizing yourself for 3 seconds for the sake of...what, two hits? Maybe three if you luck out with CC? This gets you one powered up hit and a dash, which means nothing because you've lost out in DPS and now your W is on cooldown. By the time you get the attack speed and AD to make this actually useful, you inexplicably consume MORE stacks (limiting its use) to get that bonus damage.

Also worth noting: you'd only be able to accumulate a total of 8 stacks. This requires 2.5 attack speed - and if you have this, you are inexplicably fed and also building like an idiot since you're neglecting your AD and are one CC away from doom.

This one's particularly bad since this looks like your main damage ability, but since it penalizes your DPS so heavily, it's more or less worthless to you. You can't clear the jungle with this, or deal with people invading your jungle, or duel, or even gank since you make yourself ignorable for 3 seconds.

And again, doesn't play into the revolutionary theme. The constant dashing is more reminiscent of a duelist type than anything a revolutionary would do.

The E slams hard into the burden of knowledge. Being four abilities in one, it demands both player and enemy remember what each of these things do and when Vaughan is on specific terrain. Except that the river and base terrains are too specific to really come into play often, so in practice it's just the grass and bush ones.

They're both bad, too. I can see the theoretical use here - vault over an enemy with your Q, drop the trap in their escape path, then reactivate the Q, activate the W, and go to town. The problem arises in that neither the Q nor the W are very good at what they do, and you have no way to actually make the enemy stay in range because you have no hard CC on the kit. Since it drops on top of you, their utility is incredibly limited - any time you'd be in a position to exploit this, you're in danger.

It plays into the revolutionary theme as an underhanded and unconventional means of warfare, but it can't carry the kit by itself.

As a whole, your basics attempt to stick to a target, but do so in an incredibly clumsy way and do nothing else but stick to that target, with extremely low DPS and no hard CC. This is not the mark of a capable jungler. Without damage, CC, or durability, there's no reason to pick Vaughan over anyone else. I can take Graves, Kindred, or Kha'Zix for far more damage, and Sejuani, Nautilus, or Amumu for the CC and durability, or just pick Lee Sin because why the hell not. I'm incredibly hard-pressed to find a reason to pick Vaughan over anyone else, and that's something you really need to work on. What truly makes him unique? What defines his playstyle? What are his strengths and weaknesses, and why does no other jungler do that?

Because if you're looking to his ultimate to answer that question, boy, are you in trouble.

It has a whopping 6 different effects - creating a tooltip that blots out your screen and gets you killed by aforementioned Lee Sin jungler while you're trying to navigate that, while also adding EVEN MORE burden of knowledge since now you and the enemy have to remember these 6 distinct effects. It's available at level 1 - for all the good that'll do you with its long cooldown and effects that are generally impractical. Actually, let's talk about these effects a bit more:

Pulling an enemy tower down is pointless. Just hit it. Without any details on this Tug meter's rate of filling, you're better off just hitting it so everyone can help kill it faster. If you're trying to kill turrets faster, you'll never do it as fast as Ziggs or a decently-farmed ADC.

Having an UNDETECTABLE (and therefore no counterplay is available) bomb on a large monster is pretty unfair, except that the execute range and timer combined make it nearly impossible for any jungler worth a damn not to finish off the target before the bomb explodes, which means it's a wasted cooldown unless you put an active effort into making sure it works (which is self-defeating given the intent is to steal the monster without you investing work). Remember Lee Sin? He can jump-kick that thing for 8% of its missing health - at 10%, that would mean 8% of 90%, which ends up being 7.2%, which is more than half of what's left of the monster. Not even getting into Smite here, which will most assuredly kill anything you could bomb.

Blocking an enemy inhibitor from respawning is really niche and not at all worth the use of an ultimate. You'll inconvenience them up to one more minute. By contrast, Lee Sin has punted you through your team into his team with his ultimate, leaving you dead for up to a minute.

The ally turret use case is probably the strongest use - except even then you're never catching a champion in it because of its very obvious 5 second charge time, and letting a minion wave build up to the point where you'd get 10+ minion kills requires you to visit a pushed lane and let the tower eat 5 more seconds of two or more minion waves hitting it before frying it. Even then, a 4 second stun is pretty absurd given that the longest stun in the game - Ashe's ultimate - requires the arrow to fly so far away that Ashe most likely won't even be there to enjoy it, and most stuns hover around 2 seconds at the absolute max.

Being able to smoke bomb allies under CC is almost neat - except for the part where you don't actually help the ally directly. A CCed ally really doesn't need the move speed boost towards enemies in most cases, and nearsighting enemies around your ally doesn't actually do anything if they're not melee. There's something resembling a good idea here, but it's executed in all the wrong ways.

Camouflaging yourself for up to 6 seconds is not worth a 60 second cooldown in any way, shape, or form, especially when you need a specific condition fulfilled that makes it easy to figure out where you're going.

In all, the ultimate is a huge pile of random tools that doesn't actually help you do anything useful. It fits the kind of indiscriminate terror a revolutionary would cause, but that's it - and by shoving all of that in the ultimate, you've deprived that kind of thematic connection from the rest of the kit.

Vaughan right now is an utter mess. You need to take a long, hard look at him and figure out what, exactly, he should be doing, because his entire kit is more or less irredeemable in its current state.

You'll be best served by figuring out SOME thematic that fits within revolutionary that he can fit comfortably in, so you have some direction with your skills. If he's the kind of guy that goes after kings, he'd probably have some sort of high single-target burst or really debilitating poison that would leave his targets open. If he's a rabble rouser kind of revolutionary, he should be interacting with allies far more and leading them into any kind of fight possible with focused benefits that only really shine in combat.

I hit the word limit. I'll keep watching.

wow this is a giant concept so i'll just give my 2 cents. The idea of him being an annoying spastic pos to the enemy team is well done but there's some things that just don't click for me.(also ignoring lore since not my cup of tea. seems kinda overloaded but really new. P:The silence in itself isn't too powerful but is it 450 radius or diameter(don't want to assume) Q:seems to be intended as his ganking tool. does he avoid the spell if a secondary effect is cc(rylais/iceborn)? why does it place him so far away if he's supposed to assist in getting kills? W: my opinions is it would be better if 25% was dealt as a dot instead of just vanishing and the pops just consume the dot. definitely a unique ability though. E:when you say one river wall to another does it include the pits? does the incendiary one affect ivern bushes? also when you say traps it means an enemy champ needs to proc it(some seem to rely on enemy champs while the foam and nail bomb i can see starting up as soon as he drops them)? R:is he within tower range for turret ripping? Monster one i could see as a trap but not an undetedctable one.

Howdy! I'm here to be a good neighbor and review your champ, Vaughan. if you wouldn't mind taking a look at Cara, since you seem to have an intense eye for detail, I'd appreciate it. She's found here: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/qdvPW4TP-ccos-entry

Now, I'm not going to get into lore. I am bad at lores. So I'm just operating under the kit and the title "regenade insurgent". That sounds pretty cool actually. Like, a rebel or somesuch in the league. There's a lot to go on with a title like that!

The passive here sounds a little much. Free splash damage (that usually requires Tiamat), a pbaoe silence, and all this triggers if he sees an enemy within the passive radius or uses his Q or W? Well, his passive radius (I assume) is 450, so well beyond melee range. That means any melee-ranged bruiser cannot duel him and expect to win since he has abilities and they do not. It also makes escaping a near-guarantee for the same reason. If Quinn hunts you down, say, then you just pop that while you're running away and suddenly she can't gap close nearly as well. Same with, say, Nautilus, Warwick, or Lee-Sin. Just the silence would be a lot and powerful on a passive, but you gain damage reflection on neutrals too - and not just to nearby minions, but towers and enemies! So even if you don't push the lane, you'll be getting free damage. A reward for doing badly seems really against league philosophy, but imagine this while contesting Dragon or Baron! That would seriously wreck somebody's day and, again, this is just a passive effect. It's too much. I also don't understand how the reflection can be seen as an insurgent or renegade thing - is it a tool of his? I don't know - but I guess the glitterbomb can be. It's a handy tool so that gets a pass. Still way too strong of a passive though. If this was an active it'd be a little better, but still overloaded.

Now, his Q. It reads like a combo of a 'get out of hell free' card and a mechanically odd initiate. After all, what kind of initiate requires explicit contact with an enemy champion? A counter-engage, maybe? But then, again, this rewards bad play - getting hit, willingly letting enemies engage first - to function. I'm not sure why. Anyway, the CC evasion would be fantastic all on its own, maybe as like a shield that protects and then explodes. The initiate is deeply unorthodox and does not read as very effective unless you have a passionate hatred for Blitzcrank, Nautilus, Singed, or other bulky melee champions who can affect your positioning. You rely on enemies to do your own engage, which rarely works well. You become separated if you dash to their back line and get overwhelmed if said back line focuses you. This happens to Karma a lot and she has a tether, much the same as Camille's ult. The glitterbomb portion can be annoying but you better have more coming or you're just dead after .5 seconds. Maybe just dashing the distance or until you slam into someone for damage would be good, with the tether if you really want, as an initiate, but as this is it both rewards playing badly and cannot be executed reliably enough to matter.

Vaughan's W just strikes me as weird and counterintuitive. You gain a damage reduction, to the tune of 25%, just so you can, later, get bonus damage and chash them? Why not just have a dash that does increasing bonus damage the more champions it hits? This would also help give him an escape and plant glitterbombs strategically rather than pray he can survive all these autoattacks for 3.5 seconds. Also, every first stack detonates a glitterbomb? Sweet mother of mercy, that's way too much. Look at vayne for an example, or Darius, on stacking mechanics if you want to keep this. Personally, I like the dash/charge idea more. It's also worth noting that the absolute max stacks you can get is 8, at 2.5 attack speed no less. That... isn't a lot and even if you spread them around at best you're not gonna do very well for yourself.

His E is already way too much to keep track of. Take note of Taliyah and how her terrain effects are both very simple and intuitive to both understand and avoid. Vaughan has neither of these things. I can get behind the idea of traps, as a fan of Nidalee, Caitlyn, Jinx, Singed, and so on, but there's not much counterplay here beyond 'don't go in lol'. This doesn't even really synergize with the Q or W, as the Q displaces you and the W reduces your damage right when you'd need it most to kill someone. Even if you did, say, a direct QWE combo then you better pray you land on something that can hurt others as otherwise you're kinda doomed. Not to mention, why does he need to lay it down directly at his feet? Why not a range like every other trap in League? This just doesn't fit as it stands. Make the skill do one thing well rather than four things badly; and I do mean badly, as the places you want to contest, like the river or base, either don't do any damage or apply anything beyond a slow, or do way too little damage to be meaningful given the wind up.The brush variant ramps up way too hard and is entirely too niche to function, as well.

His ultimate. Oh god. Everything I said about doing one thing well instead of four things badly applies here. The enemy turret component is a waste; why not just attack it and do the same thing? First turret blood isn't that important, man. As for the monster bomb, it, uh, its fuse is too long to work. Seriously. Jungle monsters are not hard to kill and, even if they were, smite exists for a reason. This is not worth the effort and is a terrible execution of an interesting counter-jungling idea. The broken enemy inhibitor variant... why even bother? Functionally speaking, an extra minute will make no difference on the battlefield. Do you really need super minions that much? One and a half minutes is three waves, so you'd get, at best, two more waves of minions. Just... why even bother? That's insignificant and inconsequential to everything except the thematic, which it fits perfectly. Kudos for that. The arsenal variant is interesting in that league already did this with a game mode. It was pretty fun! This is a suped up version though and isn't likely to hit a champion. Might be good for stopping a push, but that's kinda... underwhelming... for an ultimate. Orianna, for comparison, can wave clear, set up foes for kills, and do terrible, terrible damage with just one ultimate skill. The crowd variant I can almost see as useful because of Camoflague, but you have no wya to follow up on it, do any damage, or anything really that would make this scary. Why not just have a camoflague ult and redesign your kit around following that up if you like it? Minion damage is utterly forgettable unless you have super minions and unless you made Baron Nashor rip-roaring angry then there's not much point or circumstance to this.

Overall, this is a cool idea. Really, it is. Unfortunately, your execution of the idea just doesn't stick well with either the thematic or mechanical effectiveness. The kit fights itself a lot, the skills are overloaded, overdesigned, and counterintuitive, and, overall, the only thing it can do well is try to reward bad gameplay. It certainly can't function like every other champion; he has no follow up damage to be an assassin or bruiser, he has no peel ability to be a tank, he can't really support, his jungling could be a lot better, and has no range for mid lane. Where does he go? Nowhere I guess. He certainly isn't overpowered, that's for sure, but nobody would want to play him.

I'd earnestly suggest taking this and other feedback you received to heart in the future, as a lot of these people in the CCOS community tend to be very clever about these things - if a bit abrasive. Good luck and have fun!

Dang dude! The effort put into this is so obvious and it payed off. I love the shit out of the ability descriptions and the fancy-shmancy symbols you put! I love the descriptions for the animations and the quotes.

Well I'll start with the kit and than talk about the rest as it formulates.

Vaughan will count as caught off guard if he gains vision of a foe while they are in his passive radius. In order to trigger on a foe, Vaughan must not have had personal vision of that particular foe for 10 seconds (enemies viewed by wards or teammates do not count).

There's alot in this passive. I'll try to break it up.

So Vaughan's .5 second silences sound pretty bad to use and to fight. They make it hard to cast quickly and smoothly, which feels bad for the enemy, but other wise isn't long enough duration wise to feel useful for Vaughan. I would increase the effective and power of each Glitterbomb, while reducing how often you can use them. I highly discourage you from scrapping Glitterbombs. These can be super cool, just currently they don't have much of an impact besides giving the enemy a shot of salt.

I'm not quite sure why you included the ability to mimic damage he takes from the jungle onto enemy turrets and champions. This seems odd and out of place. I'm sure it has some reasoning, but I don't get it.

His "Caught of Guard" mechanic also seems pretty strange sense you have no control over it. I've wanted an ability or passive like this for a long time, but it seems like this ability is only good when fighting Kha'Zix, Rengar, Shaco, or face checking bushes. This ability is really thematic but seems to translate poorly into gameplay, atleast from my understanding.

This is a really interesting ability, I probably would reduce the CC immunity so that this ability is more reliant on timing. I love the idea, and in a vaccum this ability works, but without ANY other gap closers or movement speed buffs, Vaughan would have a REALLY rough time getting to the enemy. Once he gets to the enemy, its really hard to get him off, but thats thats IF he gets to the enemy.

I would reduce this abilities effective and give him another way to reach the enemy. Because while this ability is actually really strong, its counter intuitive because Vaughan is already in range, and doesn't need this much utility to stick to an enemy.

Overall I can picture this abilities' animation quite a bit and it sounds badass asf.

For the next 3.5 seconds, Vaughan's attacks deal 25/20/15/10/5% less damage and apply stacks to their targets.

At the end of the duration, successive auto attacks made against a stack-bearing target will cause Vaughan to dash a short distance and consume up to 2/2/3/3/4 stacks per hit to deal 60/65/70/75/80% bonus damage, per stack consumed. Stacks can be applied to multiple opponents. The first stack - and every 5th stack - applied to any single Champion will cause Vaughan to detonate a Glitterbomb and apply 1 bonus stack. All stacks on a target will dissipate after 12 seconds if no new stacks are added or consumed.

I really like this ability. In general, I like delayed high damage abilities that require planning or build up. Kalista's Rend, Syndra's ult, to an extent :P, Twitch E, Xayah E, etc.

This is yet ANOTHER ability that prevents the enemy from escaping Vaughan. So its clear that Vaughan is supposed to be sticky asf, but he has no way still of getting to the enemy. He literally has to walk up to them.

Vaughan throws 1 of 4 toils into the air, directly above him, where they hang briefly before falling to the ground and activating. Ability used is determined by the terrain he is standing on.

Grass/Ground - Bed of Nails: 30/35/40/45/50% slow and 100/170/240/310/380 (+0.2 AD) damage over 7 seconds. Moderate area of effect. Bushes - Incendiary Toil: 120/240/360/480/700 damage (+0.7 AP) over 5 seconds. Wide area of effect, but does not burn or do damage outside of bushes. River - Sticky Foam: 70/75/80/85/90% slow. Fairly narrow column of foam that bridges from one river wall to the other. Spread can be impeded by terrain modifiers (such as J4's ult or Ivern's bush). Obscures vision. Base - Nailbomb: Bounces in place for 2 seconds, then explodes. Deals 70/125/180/235/290 (+0.5 AP) damage and slightly knocks targets back from burst point.

This ability has so much potential, and i LOVE what it could do. But it unfortunately doesn't deliver.

Vaughan can't tactically decide which trap to use in a fight. Its not like Twisted Fate's gold, red, and blue cards. He can't choose. Summoner's Rift is so massive that you won't be able to get to a base to lay a Nailbomb in time if you needed to.

In addition, it doesn't make sense why in a base you need an AoE nuke displacement. While the River's Sticky Foam makes sense for dragon and baron, and maybe other buffs, most of the traps don't. The Bed of Nails is a good zone tool, but the utility and DoT it offers don't make sense on a fighter imo.

His Bush Trap does bat shit insane base damage. Your very likely going to die if you follow Vaughan into a bush unless this ability is on cooldown.

I would give him more options. If you want the traps to be base off WHERE Vaughan is, than I would have them be based off if he is near a wall, just the ground, or a brush because those are ALL over every map. The river isn't on every map and is very specific. However a smart Vaughan player can have more decisions over what trap he places if all he has to do is walk over to that wall or brush rather than across the map to a base or river.

This ability is also a burden of knowledge for what everything does. Its too overloaded, I would reduce it to three traps, although 4 isn't absurd enough where I can't see it in game.

Vaughan begins the game with 1 point in his ultimate ability, Revolution. Revolution has a variety of different functions, depending on the target.

Enemy Turret = After a brief set-up period, Vaughan hooks his grapple to the target turret and tries to topple it, periodically dealing his standard attack damage x(1.25/1.5/1.75/2) from a distance at a rate equal to his attack speed.

Large Monster or Higher = Vaughan fits an explosive to the target Large or Epic monster, indicated by a 'dynamite' icon above their head. If the monster falls below 25/40/45/70% hp (halved for epic monsters), a 6-second countdown timer will begin. Monsters not defeated before the timer expires will be destroyed by the blast, awarding Vaughan all the relevant benefits and a stack of Battlefield Momentum.

Broken Enemy Inhibitor = Vaughan places an inhibitor inhibitor on the enemy inhibitor!

Ally Turret = Vaughan arms the current turret with a temporary arsenal.

Ally under Crowd Control Effects = Vaughan tosses a glamour bomb at a nearby CCed ally (Range: 800) camouflaging them and inflicting darkness upon enemies within 325 units for 1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, Vaughan's team gains 5/10/20/40% movement speed while moving towards affected ally/enemy champions. Vaughan gains a stack of Battlefield Momentum for each affected enemy defeated within 10 seconds.

While within a crowd of 5 or more minions/monsters = Vaughan riles up nearby enemy minions or monsters, turning the chaos to his advantage and camouflaging for 1.5/3/4.5/6 seconds. Frenzied monsters/minions that remain within a 550 unit radius of Vaughan will deal 10/35/60/85% bonus damage, prioritise enemy champions and will not attack Vaughan or his teammates for 6 seconds.

I'l reply to this comment for the rest because apparently I can't right anymore due to some cap or something.

I don't have an opinion on all of his skills, but his passive doesn't need the first part. The glitterbomb part alone is pretty cool.

I personally love revolutionary characters, so I am biased towards loving this concept over any other champion in league.

Quick question - how did you get text to be able to be in the middle or in a hanging indent format? I've never seen that anywhere but here.

Also, where'd you get all the nifty little text icons and such, like these, they're super fun:

⁦۩ ┯┷❂┷┯ ┯┷☩┷┯ ۞ ☼

Is there like an archive, or are you using a special keyboard, or what....? Not necessarily trying to cop your style I was just wondering if there was a way I too could learn this power.

Adding a change log, as I will soon need to refer to it:

[Changes I can remember during vague blackness before calendars were invented]

  • Trahison Des Clercs AoE type clarification. EXP soak removed.
  • Mana costs added; cooldowns were lowered.
  • Clustering Decoy Toils clarified as toils; and NOT traps. Sticky Foam can now be impeded by terrain modifiers.
  • Pulling down enemy turrets no longer uses new bar; instead deals increased (ranged) damage after a delay. Allies can channel to help pull turrets down.
  • Revolution's Monster Explosives no longer undetectable before the timer starts. Starts countdown much earlier.
  • Revolution's Glamour Bomb also camouflages the ally it hits. Range of explosion increased a little.
  • Camouflaging in a group of enemy minions made to last longer.

**[15/05:] **

Disassociation:

  • CC spell-shield effect replaced with decaying tenacity, over time. Tenacity duration can now be extended with glitterbomb detonations. Brief untargetability while leapfrogging. Additionally, tether only lasts until end of ability duration.

Fervid Onslaught:

  • Damage reduction% effect lowers as ability is levelled. Stack damage reduced to compensate. Bonus stacks and Glitterbombs now apply on every 5th stack a target has, as well as the first hit, to allow tunnelling and encourage target-picking when reactivating Fervid Onslaught while stacks are still in play from the previous use.

Clustering Decoy Toils

  • Now thrown into the air, instead of 'at the ground' - allows players to see that Vaughan is using his toils.

Revolution!:

  • Inspire lasted 20 seconds after smashing a turret. WHAT?! Lowered to 8 seconds.
  • Inhibitor Inhibitor duration lowered by half. Now damages up to 4 enemies (players or minions) that walk by it, over time.
  • Allied Turret Arsenal no longer shoots if all enemies are defeated or leave before it finishes charging. Stun duration reduced at max level.
  • Frenzy radius reduced when camouflaged in enemy minions. Minions now deal bonus damage based on ult level.
