Darth Vader, The Imperial Conqueror


This is my entry for the Civil War Contest and for my crossover character I decided the one character that I'd be most excited to ever see make an appearance in League is Darth Vader. Darth Vader has made appearances in other universes and each time he was always one of the greatest aspects of said crossover. This is partially why Darth Vader is among the best villains of all fiction ever created, and why he'd only make great entry to League's champion pool if done the character justice.

_With my concept, I wanted to fully express what Vader's appearance should mean to mostly everyone in the game (both the champion and the player). One should feel absolutely distraught over the fact they are facing Darth Vader himself and the slightest sign of weakness will lead to their demise. I really tried to craft what Vader's theme should be and how it should be displayed in game: a ruthless Sith Lord with mastery over the Force, in order to make him among the most unique champions in the game. I hope you enjoy reading my concept and any and all constructive criticism is welcomed and appreciated. _

Darth Vader is an immensely powerful Sith Lord and apprentice to Emperor Palpatine, acting as the Galactic Empire's inexorable weapon. Sent by the Emperor himself on a highly secretive and dire mission to obtain the World Runes, objects of immense magical power, with the intent to completely eradicate all who dare to continue to resist The Empire's sovereignty, Darth Vader will not hesitate to fulfill his master's wishes on any and all who stand in his way. Wielding upmost control over the Force - a metaphysical energy field that encompasses the universe, and mastery of Djem So lightsaber combat, Darth Vader is among the most indomitable and cunning warlords to ever appear on Runeterra.


Design Philosophy


Darth Vader appearing in a battle should mean one thing for his adversaries, terror. Those that dare oppose him should be horrified of the fate that is coming to them, and Darth Vader should show efficiency and mastery whilst massacring his opponents. The idea to Darth Vader was to craft a relatively immobile duelist that can inflict devastating damage when in range of his opponents and also having the tools to keep them within range. Darth Vader doesn't run to his opponents, they run from him because they know once he eventually catches them their demise is all but guaranteed.

In order to bring Darth Vader to life i focused on aspects that would make him adept at dueling his opponents while also maintaining the tools to fend off their retaliation. When playing Darth Vader one should feel like they're invading a universe completely foreign from their own, unleashing swift death on any and all in the path.

Passive - The Force: Darth Vader uses the Force as a means to fuel his abilities. Darth Vader has a maximum of 200 Force, and each of his basic abilities require and consume 50 of his Force to be utilized. Darth Vader restores 50 of his Force every 5 seconds and whenever he kills an enemy champion or epic monster.

http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/clip_image00224.jpg Passive - Djem So Form: _For 3 seconds after damaging an enemy with an ability, Darth Vader gains bonus attack speed that decays over the duration and will parry 3 basic attacks from individual melee enemy champions or neutral monsters, returning with an instantaneous basic attack that deals modified physical damage but applies on-hit effects. Additionally, Darth Vader's first two basic attacks will also restore 15 Force and deal bonus physical damage. This effect can only trigger once every few seconds, but basic attacks against enemy champions and large/epic monsters reduce the cool down by 1 second. _

  • Bonus Attack Speed: 50%/57.5%/65%/72.5%/80% {Scales At Levels 1,4,7,10,13,16}
  • Modified Physical Damage: 25%/30%/35%/40%/45%/50% AD {Scales At Levels 1,4,7,10,13,16}

Notes


  • Parrying an attack completely nullifies any damage Darth Vader would take and causes him to strike the target with an instantaneous counter attack.
  • Darth Vader will parry a maximum of 3 basic attacks from every melee enemy that attacks him while Djem So is active.

Active - First Cast: After a 0.20 second delay, Darth Vader thrashes his lightsaber in a cone in front of him, dealing physical damage to all enemies struck and slowing them by 45% for 0.25 seconds. After striking at least one enemy, Darth Vader may recast this ability for the next 3 seconds.

Passive: Darth Vader gains bonus damage reduction that is doubled while Djem So is active.

**Active: **Darth Vader enters a defensive formation for 2.5 seconds, becoming immune to crowd controlling effects and reflecting ranged basic attacks back to his opponents as magic damage. The passive damage reduction is disabled while this ability is on cool down, but basic attacks from ranged enemy champions reduce the cool down of this ability by 0.5 seconds.

  • Magic Damage: 20/25/30/35/40 (+10%/12.5%/15%/17.5%/20% Of Basic Attack's Damage)

Notes


  • Darth Vader will completely reflect the damage from any ranged basic attack, returning it back to his opponents.
  • Thornmail will still affect any target Darth Vader has reflected.

Active: Darth Vader hurls his lightsaber to the target location, dealing physical damage to all enemies it passes through. Once the lightsaber reaches its chosen distance it will swiftly return back to Vader, dealing the same physical damage to all enemies it passes through, pulling them slightly towards Vader and placing a decaying slow on them for 1.25 seconds afterwards.

Active: Darth Vader raises a single enemy champion in the air and uses the Force to choke them for 1.5 seconds, suppressing them for the duration. Darth Vader will telekinetically assault the victim with his lighsaber whilst choking them, causing them to take physical damage per 0.5 seconds spent channeling. If Darth Vader completes the channel, he will crush his victim from the inside after a 0.25 second delay, dealing true damage that executes his victim if they are below a certain health threshold and fears nearby enemies within the vicinity of the execution for 1.5 seconds.

Playing As Darth Vader


As Darth Vader, you're a Force wielding cyborg that obliterates any who dare challenge you. Use Saber Savagery to begin the onslaught, utilizing Djem So in between casts to take advantage of your increased attack speed and to easily fend off attacks from your opponents. If faraway foes attempt to rally against you, Force Reprisal will fend off the worst of their assault as you slowly make your way to their location. After effortlessly blocking your opponents assault, use Telekinetic Hurl to draw them more into the blood bath.

Once you find the perfect victim to unleash your fury upon, cut their life strings with Ferocity Of The Force, causing nearby enemies to flee in fear at the sight of the massacre. Continue to unleash havoc upon those transfixed in horror with another Saber Savagery sequence.

I love most of the kit, but I feel like that passive should have something of a cooldown. It doesn't have to be long since there are plenty of champions that don't rely on basic attacks, let alone melee basic attacks, but he at least shouldn't be near-constantly immune to them simply by spamming his abilities. It's not terribly OP, it just seems like it's barely pushing this concept over the edge. Maybe a 6-8 second cooldown on the passive could work, just enough make him have to decide what ability would be wise to start with, since he knows he'll have to be ready to take full advantage of his protection once he uses one of his abilities, but not so long that he has to wait for what feels like half the game before it's up again.

I do like how the Passive protection's 2.5-second duration synergizes with the 2.5-second duration of the W, and in general it seems like you put together the champion really well. That passive's lack of a use limit is my one concern about the kit as a whole, and even then it's not THAT big of a concern, just a little piece that could probably use some polishing somehow.
