Is it just me or did turret plating so absolutely nothing?
They still melt like butter despite having protective “plating”. I was under the impression the plating would be a shield you’d have to penetrate before moving on to the actual turret.

I had a game where my bot lane got the first tower, as well as I believe top getting first top tower, before 14 minutes when the plating is supposed to fall off.
Doesn't seem like they're very useful.
You can get it before 14 minutes. The point was never to make it impossible to get them before then.
The point was to make it take longer and not lose them because of being ganked once or by backing at a poor time.
They got it around 10 minutes. That's not really longer than what it used to take at all. Because they got it because our jungler ganked, and then stayed with them TO take the tower.
They completely missed the point of making it take longer.
So the jungler had to stick around for a while to take it, missing camps and other gank opportunities?
Sounds like a fitting tradeoff to me.
Not really when he had no camps up, and no one was in position to gank. He didn't lose anything off it.
So...Their jungler was in a lane for a while and none of your team did anything with it.
No 3v2, no drakes, no pressure in other lanes.
That sounds just like bad macro, which Riot can't help regardless.
They killed the enemy bot lane, got the tower, started taking second tower. Meanwhile top AND mid was working on their own towers and dragon was already gone.
How is it bad macro when there was literally nothing else for him to do? Apologies for not realizing I had to specify every little thing that happened in a game when this thread is about how turret plating is useless.
But that doesn't mean plating was useless. If their jungler gets drake, kills bot and then proceeds to take the tower by minute 10 then your bot and your own jungler are bad af. The turret could be made out of steel and it would fall with how bad your mates do. Losing this much by minute 10 is the fault of your team.

WIth the new changes, theres no way 3 people take a full hp tower at 10 minutes. If 3 people got your tower, that means it was HEAVILY chipped during lane (at least 2 platings down minimum). You played safe under tower, and your opposing laners got rewarded for their aggression.
Your jungler probably should have found a window to relive pressure bottom lane if they were hitting your tower, or you should have picked a stronger lane, or you should have played better and not lost the lane.
Towers feel pretty good to me honestly, and are definitely an improvement.
Considering the game was 15 minutes long, yeah, they did get it really damn early. And when did I say it was full health? I never did, all I said was that they got the first tower around 10 minutes.
Did you forget about the part where riot said they wanted lost games to close out faster?
Because judging from the rest of the comments your whole team was getting rekt. Turrent plating has helped against snowballing in this game. But if your getting massively stomped still then you probably deserved that lose.

Or just, buff turrets in the defence if they're so unimaginably weak?
But no, better make this contrived and roundabout thing that ever so slightly increases turret defence that gives enemies a buttload amount of free gold to guarantee that players have access to more early damage than ever before, and the thing also goes away and takes the tower's resistance with them and actually makes turret weaker than ever before. And better buff minion MS and give players Rune Shard with uneven tip to the adaptive damage option too in """compensation""" just in case towers aren't falling quicker than they already do.
Yeah okay. This is all the same nonsense as the last time they """buffed""" turrets, where they give 1 little thing and immediately take away 3-5 big things in """compensation""". Does Riot know what the fuck buff is even supposed to mean? Because they seem to confuse buffing with nerfing all the god damn time.
They haven't buffed turrets in the last 2 seasons AFAIK, but they have nerfed them every other patch :|
its not really suposed to change the basics of the game. Its supposed to change player behaviour, to encourage higher-elo behaviour of "plink the tower a bit. back off. repeat until you win tower"
well they need to buff the buff the turets get when they lose a plate because if im playing any ad champ i can get 2-3 of them in 1 push after forcing someone out of lane. I usually play ap assassin mids and roam allot but im going to seriously consider picking up an ad mid like yasuo because this plating gold is just nuts.
LOL I love when people who don't play in high elo talk about high elo behaviour. Yes, riot says plink the turret so they must plink the turret, totally has nothing to do with roaming, recall timing, trades, aggression and wave mechanics.
all those other things, you cant incentivize. nor is it even relevant. riot is doing what it can.
riot can, and have, multiple times. It just doesn't make a difference in low mmr games because the players don't value the subtle differences.
It's only useful if the lane is even, which happens maybe in 1/20 games. In all other games, it's just a sack of money for the winning team. You can easily take 3-4 plates in a single push, especially at bottom lane.
Most games first tower blood isn’t happening until almost 10 min unlike before the average was 3 min earlier. Heck, a good thought out tower dive could get fb turret bot at like 5 min. So yes the plates have helped extend laning a bit. I still hope they can make changes so they don’t melt after 14 min but it definitely has changed things.
"I was under the impression the plating would be a shield you’d have to penetrate before moving on to the actual turret." You're not the only one. If anything, most to all of us were in that impression too. I'm actually shocked from this...2 games and it doesn't feel like they are that resistant either even when you destroy one plate! And now it's more or less a disgusting buff to snowballing due to how much gold it can give.
It is a shield you have to penetrate before moving on to the actual turret, its just that the "Shield" is also apart of the turrets actual health and there is now an incentive for hitting the turret and winning recall timers. Think about it, if riot made turrets harder to kill before 14 minutes and gave players no incentive to hit the turret before the 14 minute mark then literally everyone would just play extremely passive and ignore turrets till 14. Turrets become very hard to kill after losing 2 plates if you haven't also died. Comparing that to the game before the changes its 260 gold, you don't die, and you get to farm safely till 14 minutes, where as before you'd likely die and hand over 300 gold and also lose the turret.

That's it necessary going to make players play super passive and the reward they get for getting a plate is not bad.
The new turret plating is not what we had in mind and promoted snowballing even way further and that's toxic. Even when destroying a plate it doesn't feel they are more resistant to damage.
The turret plate is supposed to be like a secondary hp bar for the turret that disappears in 14 min mark, revealing the actual turret health. It was supposed to extend laning phase and nerf snowballing.
This is just garbage and the exact opposite of what we wanted and even demanded.
It punishes bad players, don't know what to say other than git gud. Players are crying because their mistakes are being punished harder, and they should. And you can't even use the excuse "well now ill just play passive so i don't make mistakes", because they can just harass the tower and snowball before stomping you at 14.
I truly do apologise that you now need to learn lane mechanics.

Turrets are literally weak. No matter how good your lane phase is a small mess up can cost you the turret and the match goes haywire.
And that's your big counter? "Git gud! Learn laning phase!"
We want LONGER laning phase. Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Or is new turret plating playing in your favour since you can snowball more easily and get those free LP?
Idk what you're on about dude, you can literally turtle until 14 minutes and have your turret still up. Any scenario you can think up where a turret would go down early in this current patch I bet you my life savings that it would go down quicker before this patch. I play every role at a gold level at least, my support and jungle being near plat (I have another support account that plat 3 which I only play when I duo with my ADC friend). Yes I like to snowball my lane (who doesn't?) But the option to play safe and wait for mid game is there. I've been playing a lot of nautilus top recently and when I stomp my lane i still cant get the enemy turret before 14 minutes without jungler help, and when I lose my lane and get stomped I find it so much easier to sit and farm, and I know if I get dived my turret wont be useless because of my cc and turret damage buffs.

Just because you're not having a bad experience with the turret, doesn't mean that a problem doesn't exist. I don't know how you play Nautilus, but he's not a damaging champion anyway unless you use demolish.
What i'm on about is how we got fooled into thinking that turret plating is a secondary hp bar for turrets, but turns out it's just one hp, not resistant, not strong, still cardboard and promotes snowballing even more, which are the very things we are sick of having.
Its 2k more hp and extra resistance every 1k its missing, not to mention you can barely touch it before 5 minutes. Its still a lot better than before. Everyone is just throwing a fit because it doesn't look like a second hp bar, tell me what would be the point of that if it literally functions the same way? It's still the turrets fucking hp lmao. You have your extra hp bars, you have your resistances, they do more damage so they're STRONG AND YOU CANT GET DIVED IF YOU ACTUALLY DECIDE TO SIT UNDER IT INSTEAD OF TRyING TO FIGHT.

Yeah cool. I managed to melt through the turret from 3 remaining plates and get 1st blood turret as Vel'Koz. It didn't feel any tankier, it didn't feel any more useful as before. And i play a champion who is bad at splitpushing with barely an item complete.
Turrets are changed in very wrong way and look what we are getting. Snowballing is even stronger and lane phase doesn't feel any longer.
Because people are now actually focusing on taking the turrets which creates the illusion that they're weaker when they're not. Turrets are by FACT substantially stronger than they were before.

Do you have any idea what you just now said? So we focus on turret, which give us the illusion that they are weaker? This is even a buff to insane snowballing which is even a problem and is worse right now. You say that turrets are stronger. But for what i see, turrets are just gold bags that you don't even need to kill your lane opponent, and even destroying 2 plates, you can still deal decent damage, and get the gold enough to snowball.
This is not the buff that was wanted. What was expected is a barrier on turret that when it expires it shows the real HP of the turret. That one is way better, and makes laning phase better that even if you die once or twice, you won't be half worried since turret won't fall.
Did you just read what i said? Even as Vel'Koz i am able to destroy it before minute 14 and gain like 1k gold.
Vel'Koz.
A champion that is good at melting enemies but not good at melting turrets.
I feel like you have a personal bias on this. "NO! NO! NO! THIS IS BENEFICIAL FOR ME SO I CAN GET FREE GOLD! PLS RITO DON'T FIX MY FREE LP ADVANTAGE!"
The only thing plating the turrets accomplished was making the laners even more aggressive because they can get a bunch of gold and not even take the tower down.
Think of it as Gold-Plating. It's there to incentivize hitting the towers earlier.
Turrets are now just gold banks...
Turrets are now just gold banks...
If anything, this incentivised me to try to get damage on towers early more often as a jungler. I push for a few secs after killing the enemy laner and I get as much gold as I would clearing a camp in the same time. These turrets are legit like having an extra camp if you so much as force a back or threaten a dive.
point of plating was to make towers last longer (with more armor n stuff) and to not make a tower fall after one gank. tho riot messed up. the tower falls after 2 ganks now and gives WAY MORE GOLD in the process. snowballing even harder
Summon Herald on a full hp turret and you will see the changes.

It's actually worst than that - cause now you can farm some easy gold early game from braking those paper shields. 🤑
Oh, and after 14 minutes all turrets turn to paper. Kinda like taking down a Siege Minion.
turret Plates should give no gold at all. There's already too much gold in the game, especially considering how cheap some of the really busted items are. Looking at you,
!
You should either have to kill the turret and get some turret gold, or chip some health off and leave, with no extra gold because, hey, guess what, you didn't take the turret you dummy!
Okay but why would anyone bother doing that until the plates fell off instead of putting pressure on another part of the map or taking a better back?
Only a dummy would bother on turrets before the plates fell. Meaning more roaming or super passive afk farming because there would be no reason to actively focus towers above anything else until then.
and for the record, once turret plating falls, your outer towers can be pretty much 1v1'ed because they lose all armor and mr
they may take longer but they also grant more gold in the meantime so snowballing is still retarded
Kill enemy laner, take wave, take a single plate of his tower, gg no re for that guy as you're now 750 gold up on him
Turret plating does make the towers more durable.
The problem is that they also spread out the gold reward for taking the tower into segments, which makes things a lot worse for whoever is losing lane.
Now, you can get 80% of the tower's gold value without taking it, which means that it will still cause minions to bounce back closer to your tower, and your lane opponent (if they're behind) will lose even the possibility of freezing under their T2 for relatively safe farm, instead having to walk right back into your clutches.
It also doesn't help that towers literally become butter the moment plating falls.
I think they need to make it so the plating never falls off then it be ok
Turret plating does something: gives even more gold than before.
Yeah pretty much did nothing except free gold, helps me get my items even faster as inting sion instead of cock blocking me lol
And yet still towers seem to deal 0 damage when it comes to people diving.....Incredible.
Turrent plating is supposed to be useful for stopping a 5 man bot rush or something but that is something that rarely happens what it did more of is give people more gold to snowball early while incentivising adcs and mages to hit the tower where before they would likely ignore the tower early because they didnt want to get hit buy skill shots(that get blocked my minions mind you)
