Why aren't there more black champions?

Mister Modesty·7/22/2015, 8:01:27 PM·4 votes·10,979 views

Karma ,Lucian ,Nidalee (barely), and Thresh (but you wouldn't know it unless you read lore).

I think our champions need more variety. There are more undead champions than there are colored champs. Here's a champion concept I made- it will add some much needed variety to our Champions, and I think he will be fun to play. Check him out if you're interested. Either way- we need variety.

Don't get why people always cry for more racial diversity, if I wanted racial diversity, I'd go to my local Walmart.

In all seriousness, as long as a game is fun to play and I'm interested in the design and characters, why does it matter if their Norwegian, White or Black? O-o

You forgot Ekko

MrBuffington7/22/2015, 8:18:45 PM4 votes

...I don't think Karma and Nidalee are black. Also Ekko is black, and I think Taric is as well, and just has very light skin/gems made his skin lighter or something to that effect.

There is no Africa on Runeterra. As far as we can tell, there is no where, outside of the desert, who's inhabitants have all been either morphed into animals, moved or died, where there is enough heat and direct sunlight to warrant a dark completion. Sure, there will always be people with varying complexions from different areas, but Runeterra is not Earth, it doesn't share the same environmental extremes as our planet. There simply may no longer be any dark skinned people left on the planet.

what a funny way to lead people into your champion concept +1

either way, not clicking the link, not upvoting, and definitely not seeing how you think Karma is black. She's Ionian. Lucian is Demacian. And Nidalee's is unknown. I've never seen a single line about race in League's lore. Everyone in League is connected to Runeterra, a make believe world that is in no way connected to planet Earth, or the real world. So stop trying to put real life scenarios into a make believe world. League doesn't need our human nonsense.

I agree we do need more variety. But don't forget, some of the strongest champs in the game are "colored" and or female. But Riot's working on it, so chill.

You can't even tell a difference between "black" and "tanned" OP. Go outside once in a while.

I dunno how thresh is black, his lore never mentions his skin color.

Please, no racist remarks- I have zero tolerance for ignorance.

I believe with he's trying to say by "black" is referring to being of African descent not black as in of dark skin color. You can be "white" but there are millions of different sub categories but most white people identify as white without worried about the details. Where as you can be black but being of Saharan African descent is very characteristically different than say Aborigine, Aztec (which I believe Karma was based off) or Cuban. Nidalee seems to be very Brazilian or South American. Lucian I would say is of African descent maybe Ekko. Illoai seems to have some mixed culture but seems to be more Samoan or islander. Malzahar I would say is Middle Eastern in design ( think Prince of Persia.)

Spoilers. EVERY male yordle is black. You just can't tell because of the fur. Also... Nocturne .

warpenguin5557/22/2015, 10:59:14 PM2 votes

we dont need anymore of anything atm, besides storm dragons

Xaytsr7/23/2015, 12:41:19 AM2 votes

I'm more concerned about the lack of sea dwelling and fuzzy champs not to mention yordles ty

I wouldn't call Karma black, she seems South Asian, like Indian. But yes, I agree, there needs to be more dark-skinned champions. Every Nidalee skins changes her skin tone and it's super racist.

But, you know the exact reason why there aren't more dark-skinned characters...

frost shinigami7/22/2015, 8:37:58 PM1 votes

Nidalee is not exactly black, her complexion and overall design seems more like native american rather than black. Also ekko has been added and he is most definitely a black champion, riot has pretty much proven that they are not totally against black champions what COULD have been avoided were some black stereotypes shown in their black champion releases, stereotypes like:

  • Lucian's ultimate being, basically a drive-by, also one of his AA animations showing him holding his gun sideways.
  • Ekko being, besically a boy from the hood who hates cops.
  • Nidalee wielding a spear and being called ''the bestial huntress'' that is quite literally half an animal. (?)
  • thresh wielding chains and being lucian's (also black) most feared rival.

I am not claiming riot is racist or anything or that those slightly stereotypical images were intended (cus idk), i just pointed them out, i could be wrong though, it could be a coincidence (doubt it but idk).
