This isn't a typical, oh this champion needs a skin, type thread. I'm just more curious as to how you decide which ones to push through to next Patch Cycle. I'm sure y'all have at least 10+ skins ready to ship out at any time, but how exactly do you decide which skins you release on to PBE and then inevitably onto the next Patch cycle?

While we don't have 10+ skins ready to ship, we are working on a good chunk of skins at any given time. :] For example, Legendary or Ultimate skins are in the development process for much longer than a 750 RP skin. So, some skins are in the works for quite some time before they see PBE!
Deciding on which champ to give a skin to next and when depends on several factors which include when the last time a champion received a skin, or if a champion fits into a particular thematic. For example, if we made a Harrowing-themed Anivia skin (I don't know, maybe she's a bat!) as opposed to the Prehistoric Anivia skin, you wouldn't see a skin for Anivia until October, despite it being a while since her last skin.

It depends. Sometimes, it's because it's tied to an event that we switch on at a particular date - Forsaken Jayce on May (the) 4th (be with you). ;D Other times, it's just so each skin or set of skins get their own chance in the spotlight.

As good as the 750 skins are now, it still makes me a bit sad to see the rarity of higher priced skins these days.

I wouldn't say it's a rarity - This patch (5.10) has a 975 RP, a 1350 RP and 2 750 RP skins in it. The prior patch also had a mix of 975s, 1350s and 750s. :]
When we look at a thematic, we look at it in terms of scope during the development process. For example, Forsaken Jayce. In order to fulfill the thematic, we felt that new particles, sounds and voice processing were needed. For the Prehistoric skins, we felt that this particular thematic didn't require those things.

I'm not saying that that's what I would want (even though it's a little weird seeing a Pterodactyl shoot ice from it's wings I will admit there), but just saying that technically an argument could be made that her skin should receive some new particles outside of her egg form since Cho'gath got some for his skin there himself. I'd be interested to here your thoughts on this personally.

For Cho'Gath, it was a quality of life change. His base spikes would clash with the skin - similar to how Warden Nautilus' base shields clashed, so we changed them.
In Anivia's case, we used colors that could work with the base particles. Personally, I don't think it's a problem because there's cohesion in regards to the color palette. In addition, she did receive a new passive model, which could have matched, but was instead made to look way cooler. ^-^
SaintCrazy1 votesI think having Anivia throw rocks instead of ice at her opponents would have made more sense with the Dino theme; Pterodactyls weren't around in the Ice Age after all. That's just me

Ah well. It's probably because said skins don't happen to be on champions i play. That aside, something i've been wondering. I'll take Order of the Lotus Irelia as an example, even though the skin is fine as-is, i think it would look awesome with added lotus and petal particles. Would it be possible at some point to 'upgrade' skins (new particles and stuff) by paying the difference between current and upgraded price (225RP for the 750 to 975 skin)? Obviously this wouldn't work with many skins, but quite a few really would look awesome-er with particles. PLS RITO?
