Logan, the Pacemaker

Visual Overview (Higher Quality): Here Visual Ability Guide: Here

Logan's partner, https://i.imgur.com/bUZlGJk.png Mikhail, has been posted on the boards!

Why did I make Logan?

I designed Logan to fulfill a specific purpose. I've always wanted to play Ezreal as a viable support, because I like his kit. But, Ezreal isn't a support, and he never will be. Logan does what I've always wanted out of a champion, and I like the idea of his character. Plus, League doesn't have a boyish support. I don't care much if it treads a bit on Ezreal's kit, they should play very differently anyway. Logan suits my playstyle, and I hope readers get my message.

Logan has a malleable playstyle. Foremost, he is the anti-Blitzcrank, with the ability to pull his allies to safety with his E. That part of his kit would be the most defining. Secondly, his W is a shield, but scales best when he is building support items. His W grants attack speed to the target, also, which is great for last stands and pushing lanes/turrets. Turret-pushing would likely be his second identity quirk. Then his Q is a skill shot that is great for poking, or rooting if you burst, because you can use it twice. Logan's passive just grants on-hit damage and a bit of bonus health regen to nearby allies, which can be combo'd with his W for pushing lanes.

Logan's abilities don't scale well on just AP alone. However, because of the way that his Q scales, a player wouldn't be punished for building Iceborn Gauntlet, considering Logan could benefit from it as a support. If you happen to build AP, a Lich's Bane, Nashor's Tooth, Guinsoo's Rageblade, or Wit's End should do you fine. The Lich's Bane lets him burst better, while the Nashor's Tooth helps with lane clear.

Logan has great escape tools, but once they are expended, he becomes vulnerable for attack. If you can skillfully counter his E, you could also take advantage of his ADC who would be in danger if Logan's E is interrupted.

Logan and his friends often practice hextag at the local club in their cliffside neighborhood in Piltover. A sports game developed by scientists and engineers that pits players in a combat room with harmless energy weapons, Logan and his team rose to the spectator league championship in downtown during one season, garnering acknowledgment of his skill to the game's followers. His experience as a hextag player has gained him combat expertise with his trusty hextech pacemaker gloves, which he uses to energize and protect his teammates during offensive plays, and pull them out of losing fights quickly into his portals. Now, Logan waits for each approaching championship season, in hopes of participating. If not, well, at least he still has his gloves for other uses, should he need them.

Appearance

Standard Appearance Logan is 17 years old, brown hair swept to the side, and lightweight build.

Track pants, modern-style sneakers, a hoodie in the style of hextech, gold-rimmed blue cyber visor goggles, his hextech pacemaker gloves (which should look more like haptic gloves), and maybe a hextag chest piece (like a laser tag chest piece). All-in-all, Logan should look like he belongs in laser tag.

I used this pinterest as character inspiration, at least for his face and hair. The pinterest also includes two pictures of what could be hextech pacemaker gloves: https://i.imgur.com/WnZ8Xcx.jpg (Based on Gloveone's haptic gloves irl) https://i.imgur.com/9SATUnn.png (Based on Nullspace VR https://i.imgur.com/BUk6ZJK.png )

Abilities Logan's abilities should look similar to the particles effects for Annie and Kog'Maw's hextech skins.

Imagined Skins

  • Virtual Boy Logan: wearing a VR headset and motion controllers (would be the skin you can buy as soon as a champion releases). This could be an arcade skin, but the cyber pop might take away from the flavor of a VR set.
  • Electrosurfer Logan: the one with the animated intro. Steampunk goggles, and rides lightning (in game when he has a movement speed boost). All of his abilities would be lightning-based with this one.

Must-have skins from existing rosters:

  • Academy Logan
  • Arclight Logan
  • Snow Day Logan

Abilities

Passive: Hextech Pacemaker Gloves

Logan's pacemaker gloves generate a field of energy, granting Jolt to himself and nearby allied champions.

Jolt: Gain bonus health regen, and basic attacks deal bonus magic damage on hit.

Level Scaling: 1 / 4 / 7 / 10 / 13 Bonus Health Regen: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50% Bonus Magic Damage: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 (+ 5% of your AP) Effective Range: 750 unit radius

Technical Notes
- Jolt doesn't count towards assists, for the purposes of ARAM and just being near someone who gets a takedown that you didn't participate in.

Q: Hex Bolt

Logan fires a pulse of energy in a line, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through, applying on-hit effects. The damage is reduced to 70% for enemies hit after the first. This ability has two charges.

Hitting an enemy champion twice with Hex Bolt within 3 seconds roots them.

Ability Type: Projectile AoE Magic Damage: 26 / 72 / 118 / 164 / 210 (+ 5% AP) Reduced Damage: 70% Mana Cost: 34 / 36 / 38 / 40 / 42 Charges: 2 Cooldown per Charge: 6 / 5.75 / 5.5 / 5.25 / 5 seconds Root Duration: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds Projectile Range: 1150 units Projectile Speed: 2000 units

W: Barrier Blitz

Logan shields the target allied champion or himself for 2.5 seconds, granting the target bonus attack speed for 5 seconds.

Ability Type: Single Target Buff Shield Duration: 2.5 seconds Attack Speed Duration: 5 seconds Bonus Attack Speed: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% Shield Amount: 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 / 165 (+ 1 per 1 Bonus Mana Regen) (+ 10% AP) Mana Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 Cooldown: 11 / 10.5 / 10 / 9.5 / 9 seconds Target Range: 750 units

Technical Notes
- The cooldown applies once the ability is cast.
- Logan will affect himself if he does not target anyone or misses the target. If he targets an ally out of range, he will move until he is within range in order to use the ability.

E: Ferry Shift

Logan pulls the target ally to his location in a portal, making them untargetable for up to 4 seconds, but taking reduced damage inflicted to Logan. Within that time, he can activate this ability again, blinking to a target location. At the end of the blink, the ally is removed from the portal.

Ability Type: Single Target Blink Duration: 4 seconds Reduced Damage Taken: 60 / 55 / 50 / 45 / 40% Mana Cost: 100 Cooldown: 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 seconds Target Range: 475 units Blink Range: 475 units

Technical Notes
- Logan is considered suppressed while pulling an ally until the moment the target reaches him, at which point they disappear inside the portal, indicated by an audiovisual effect.
- An ally is pulled at the same speed as Thresh's lantern pull.
- An orb above Logan's shoulder, along with an aura effect, should indicate that he is carrying and ally.
- An ally's movement and attack commands are cancelled once pulled. While being pulled or in the portal, any movement or basic attack commands made will execute once the ally is booted from the portal. The ally cannot activate anything else except consumable items while being pulled or in the portal.
- The ally can be damaged during the pull, and it can be interrupted. Logan can also be damaged during this time, and if he is interrupted while pulling, it is cancelled.
- Crowd control that prevents the casting of abilities can also prevent Logan from blinking on his second cast.
- When Logan pulls an ally, any crowd control effects currently affecting the target is interrupted and ignored. The ally will still suffer any crowd control effects, duration permitting, upon exiting the portal.
- If Logan dies while carrying an ally, the ally is immediately booted from the portal.
- If the ally dies before reaching Logan, the ability immediately goes on cooldown, even if he hasn't had the chance to blink yet.
- If the ally dies while inside the portal, Logan can still blink, because the 4 second flash window has begun. The ally's death won't stop that. This is especially possible while Logan is in the process of flashing.
- Logan can blink without having to pull an ally. Doing so puts the ability on cooldown.
- The cooldown applies after the flash or when the ally is booted from the portal.
- Logan's flash component of Ferry Shift has a 0.25 second casting time, and cannot be interrupted by anything other than Logan's own death. He will still suffer any crowd control effects, duration permitting, after it ends.
- If Logan recasts for a blink at the end of the 4 second duration, there is a 0.25 second window of time when he could end up dropping the ally before the blink, leaving the ally in a dangerous position. For this reason, the ally's exit from the portal is postponed until the blink is completed, and is then booted from it once Logan reaches his destination.
- If Tahm Kench is pulled into a portal while carrying an enemy champion, the enemy is booted from Tahm Kench upon going into Logan's portal when he reaches Logan's position. However, minions and allied champions can be carried through the portal inside Tahm Kench's mouth. Once Tahm spits them out, they are booted from the portal, too.

R: Mercury Lance

After gathering energy for 1 second, Logan fires a Mercury Lance Minimap energy projectile in the target direction, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through, slowing champions for 1 - 2 seconds. The total damage deals 15% less damage to each unit it passes through, to a minimum of 40% damage.

Ability Type: Projectile AoE Magic Damage: 260 / 370 / 480 (+ 35% AP) Slow: 40 / 45 / 50% Slow Duration: 1 / 1.5 / 2 seconds Damage Reduction: 15% per enemy hit Mana Cost: 100 Cooldown: 120 / 110 / 100 seconds Projectile Range: Global Projectile Speed: 2000 units

Technical Notes
- Mercury Lance is imagined to be either charging an attack with two hands, or prepared like a javelin.
- Mercury Lance's cast time cannot be interrupted by anything other than Logan's own death. He will still suffer any crowd control effects, duration permitting, after it ends.
- If Logan is displaced mid-cast the projectile will still fire from his original position at the time of casting.
- Mercury Lance's projectile grants sight in a small radius around its current location.

Tips and Tricks

  • The brunt of Hex Bolt's damage is applied to the first enemy it hits. Be careful of who is in its way. However, if the rooting is all you require, Hex Bolt will go through enemies.
  • W helps to push on a turret, especially with a marksman.
  • Ferry Shift doesn't always have to be used to escape fights. Coordinate with a teammate if there is an opportunity for a gank.
  • You can use Ferry Shift to save your teammate in the jungle by pulling them over a wall, provided they can be reached.
  • Mercury Lance can be used to provide some crowd control in another lane, if your aim is accurate.
  • Logan works well with Ardent Censer and Shurelya's Reverie. Your Ardent Censer helps to push lanes with an ally, while Shurelya's Reverie can be used on yourself to gain some extra distance, before blinking while carrying an ally in your Ferry Shift portal.

Playing Against Logan

  • Go in for the kill if Logan uses his Ferry Shift to engage into a battle. He most likely won't have an escape.
  • If Logan pulls an ally with Ferry Shift, you could possibly cancel the pull before the ally reaches him. If you do this, his ally cannot enter the portal, and Logan can't blink away. They are both stuck.
  • If you can manage to prevent Logan from blinking away while carrying an ally, his ally could be booted from his Ferry Shift portal after the 4 seconds are up, again, they would be stuck.
  • Keep in mind that Logan's ally in the portal can still take a portion of the damage that Logan takes, including sources of single target attacks and true damage. If Logan does pull an ally into his portal, try to execute a combo if you can before he blinks away. If he dies, his ally is booted from the portal, leaving that champion vulnerable.
  • Logan's damage spikes when he purchases a Sheen item. Be careful of this, or try to punish him in the early game.
  • If you attempt to outpoke Logan, keep in mind that his attack range is slightly farther than most ranged champions. If you use your basic attack on him, he would most likely hit you back. Likewise, he may try to take advantage of this attack range and try to auto attack you. When he does this, he is leaving himself vulnerable.
  • If Logan hits you with one Hex Bolt, prepare yourself for the second. The second Hex Bolt could root you.
  • If Logan uses both charges of his Hex Bolt in quick succession, you have a window of opportunity to execute a combo before he can do the same. This is especially helpful if you are playing an assassin. With his primary source of damage expended, he likely can't counter your combo, unless he uses his shield or blinks away.
  • In teamfights, Logan benefits those who use basic attacks often, thanks to his passive. Watch for who receives the attack speed buff from his W. That champion, likely a marksman, would be a threat.

Changelog

06/11/2018.

  • Gave Logan a new look! :D
  • The shield scaling for Barrier Blitz was reduced from +10 per 25% Bonus Mana Regen to +1 per 1 Bonus Mana Regen. This was to prevent early game item 1004 scaling. Now the amount of shield strength depends on the amount of mana regen you have at each level, so it is properly scaled to the level you are at.
