Wanted to write a Fan-Fic. Need help with details on champions, lore, etc.
I wanted to write a Fan-Fic involving Jhin and the search for him after he killed Vi. I'm aware this was just a teaser, but it's a very dark storyline that can follow some Piltover champions (Cai and Jayce likely being the two biggest) and a few others (maybe a few Zaunites, could introduce Shen or Zed [prior to his death in the teaser], etc). I really enjoy writing darker types of fantasy as I find them much more emotionally charged and impactful. If I find success with this (or at least a decent interest), I may turn to writing about the other 3 deaths and further searches. Even if people tell me it blows I'll probably still write it and post it anyway. I can have confidence in my work and be proud of it if no one else is.
If any Rioter comments, I'd imagine I don't have to say don't spoil something for my sake, but....don't spoil something for my sake. Just say "make it up as you go" and I'll just say ":)" and move on.
To my questions: the purpose in these is that these can alter the direction of a story like this entirely if something is one way or another. Ex. Jayce may be unwilling to aid Cait in hunting Jhin if he had a tension-filled friendship with Vi as opposed to a very relaxed and fun-loving friendship.
One: What are the motivations for characters like Vi, Cait, Jayce, Jhin (I feel like I get him enough to write it, but just to be safe), Heimerdinger, Blitzcrank, (basically most Piltover characters. Any others that i can think of I'll ask about after) to do what they do?
Obviously Cait wants to uphold the law and Vi loves beating people up, but is there more to it than that? Does Vi feel a need to redeem herself from her thug life or is it just as simple as wanting to beat up crooks? Does Cait sheriff an entire city just because she knows it's the right thing to do or is it based on an idea of "Someone has to do it?" Why does Jayce work as a scientist? Is he attempting to drive technology forward to benefit Piltover, outcompete Viktor, etc? Does he pursue it out of passion or necessity? Jhin pursues extravagant displays to show his genius to everyone. He craves the spotlight but does so within the boundaries of his clients. Would it be weird to speculate that you can't keep Jhin on a leash forever? Art can't be suppressed forever?
Two: What are the opinions of each character of the other?
The biggest ones: Vi of Cait Vi of Jayce Cait of Vi Cait of Jayce Jayce of Cait Jayce of Vi
I'll probably ask others as the story draft progresses, but this framework is at least nice for the major players.
Jhin's opinion of them is one that I can manipulate rather freely due to the recency of the champion and the foreign aspect he brings to the 3 main characters; they've never met him before, so they can't have any prior opinions of him.
What is Cait's opinion of Vi as a partner? We see Vi's remarks to Cait as typically mocking when they are opposed but joking, supportive, and somewhat flirtatious at times when they are working together, but how does Cait respond to these things? How does Jayce respond to her? Clearly she jokes at him in possible flirtatious manners as well, so what does he think of her. What does Jayce think of Cait's leadership as sheriff? Does he think he could do better or does he support her fully? Does Cait see Jayce as a trusted friend or a friend who can be a problem if he gets out of hand with the science stuff?
Three: Basic lore and technology of Piltover/Zaun
I can sort of manipulate these semi-freely, but I want to ensure they can at least feel true to the fantasy of LoL. Is a steampunk type of city for Piltover the generally accurate vibe? Is Zaun basically a mad scientist'a paradise type of metropolis?
Four: Usage of Vulgarity
This may seem kind of silly to ask, but it can be a problem if I have 13 year olds reading my Fan-Fic and I have every character dropping F-bombs every 5 sentences or sex jokes and what naut. Plus, something like that may feel like breaking a character's personality to some since none of them curse in game (AFAIK). Obviously the fuzzy cuff thing is something that gives me a hint on some things, but that may just be avoided due to the serious nature of the fiction.
Five: Whatever else you can think of
Any general tips on Fan-Fic-ing? I've taken a few fiction writing courses in college, so I've tried to be thorough in this thought process, but in case I missed something, let me know. First true Fan-Fic for me so I'm excited to see how it works. I'm no artist, but I may ask a few friends to help with designs of scenes and such to capture some of the fantasy that words may fall short on. Depends on the reception I get.
Thanks for the time guys/girls/sentient golems of the steam variety.
Should've probably ended it at four questions as a Jhin reference... >.> Oh well, better luck next time.
