##Frostguard

  • Cost: 2900 Gold
  • Recipe: Glacial Shroud + Blasting Wand + 1050 Gold
  • 100 Ability Power
  • 25 Armor
  • 250 Mana
  • 10% Cooldown Reduction
  • UNIQUE Passive - Iceborn: Grants 3 shards of True Ice. Shards of True Ice grant +10 Armor and require -20 Ability Power for upkeeping. Upon being hit by an enemy champion's basic attack, consumes a shard to block __ physical damage. Refreshes one shard after no damage is taken from enemy champions for 15 seconds.

I tried to come up with an alternative to Zhonia's Hourglass for close-ranged Mages, like Lissandra (hence Frostguard). It is a lot cheaper than Zhonia's and offers more consistent defense against physical Assassins or physical poke (or both in Zed's case). However, it relinquishes that defense over time in combat and gives you more and more offensive capabilities instead, so it's great for sustained Mages or against enemies that have a strong engage.

I didn't offer a number for the block amount as I have no idea what would be balanced. The other numbers are also only guesses.

The 100 Ability Power as stat on the bought item would adjust to your number of shards at the moment. So it should be [40/60/80/100] Ability Power.

It isn't supposed to completely shut down Assassin's, though, so the Armor might have to be adjusted to maybe 5 per shard or the block amount would have to be kept low.

certainly interesting, not sure how well received weakening yourself as a mage in favor of defense will be, however, it sounds maybe potentially to strong in jungle.

Wow. That is a really cool idea. It's very unique, and provides an interesting combination of defense and offense.

if it's focused against assassins, shouldn't it block damage from abilities instead of basic attacks? it would be really interesting to have an item that's good vs damage from abilities, but worthless vs basic attacks. (item 3156 sortof qualifies, but its ad)
