He was sent to Noxus as a final hope to keep to peace through spiritual traditional means, under Karma’s direction. He traveled to Noxus and seen the horrors of their culture. Yet, he understood why this way of life was not chaos, but a different look on natural order; there is order to power and there is order through peace.

He now holds both ideologies as equals, but struggles to act in accordance to one way of thinking, feeling, and being. This inability for a singular self direction tormented his mind, and outlook of the world. He now travels alone, still struggling.

He seeks both Swain and Karma to have a final consult with both of them at once. He will not rest, and cannot rest, until the he learns of the best path. Be it through means of talk or war, he will use any path to get himself to that final decision.

##Champion Design Inspirations

##Intentions

Audio and Visual

  • The broken, weary missionary look is ideally matched by the champion image above. Additionally, the rugged look adds to the non-stop journey he is on, not stopping for repairs and care. He must relieve himself of this torment for being in the middle of two paths.

  • He provides visual diversity in the state of appearance. Nearly every champion is clean and pristine. His worn and broken appearance will be a difference.

  • His voice will give the impression that of exhortation from his steadfast mission, yet inability to be impactful from the wear and tear.

Lore / Kit Cohesion

  • Quintus is a struggling missionary in terms of his beliefs. Although he is relentless in his path to see which is better, (passive) yet he understands both and could swap back and forth for a temporary path to abide by (Defend the Frail / Smite the Weak).

  • Even forcefully choosing a side will show the respective power of that path (Divine / Malicious Emanation).

  • As a Paladin, charging in battle and getting rough is familiar to Quintus (Clash with Evil), although he is a missionary. This also serves as a major initiation tool.

  • He still uses his spiritual connection to aid allies, (Safe Passage) while visually and thematically guiding allies on his current path. Enemies are guiding using a harsher, Noxian style path (Treacherous Passage) that only gets harsher the weaker you are. This also serves a major healing and escape tool for weak allies.

##Version 1.1 - 05/28/2015

Abilities

  • Q: Clash with Evil

If they are carried into a wall, Quintus will shield bash them and deal an additional 15 / 25 / 35 / 50 / 60 (+15% AD) (+25% AD) in physical damage and are stunned for 1.0 seconds. and apply on hit effects.

Maximum Damage with Wall Bash: 50 / 70 / 110 / 160 / 200 (+35% AD) (+45% AD) in physical damage.

The stun on wall carry would be nearly impossible to recover from or play against when laning with Vayne for opponents. Changing it to a additional strike removes the instant lane pairing in champ select, while upping the scaling damage to provides incentive to still knock them into a wall.

  • E: Defend the Frail / Smite the Weak

Constant Toggled Stance | Persistent Point Blank Allied Area of Effect / Persistent Point Blank Enemy Area of Effect On Spell Allied Buff / On Spell Debuff Radius: 500 Cooldowns: Static 5.0 6.0 seconds

##Defend the Frail Stance

Grants a aura Blessed buff to allied champions, increasing lifesteal by 3% / 6% / 9% / 12% / 15% and magic resist by 3% / 6% / 9% / 12% / 15% for 3.0 seconds.

##Smite the Weak Stance

Added interaction with the spell and updated description giving clarity to its use.

I like this idea, though I don't think his W would stand as it remains. Riot would say that it lacks interaction. I would want it to apply something after he hits a target but that's already in his passive. Reducing enemy stats flat in an aura around him is generally not fair, even if he lacks a poke against other supports.

I would at least make it something he has to pop to reduce the stats, aside from the MR Shred. (With the upcoming changes to abyssal scepter, he is going to be really strong with base % MR shred on top of that, but he will have to get close.)

Thirdly, I think that he would be exceptionally strong as a support with Vayne - almost overpowered causing a whopping 2.5 second stun if both slam the target into a wall, giving the target struck a difficult time to react. That said I do really like the wall slam, I think the charge should be combined with his E, so that when he dashes a path forms behind him.

Though I like how his E works currently as well, forming almost a flower bed of healing with a Rumble ult cast line, or creating a long walk for enemies that are about to be finished off. (Almost like Braums ult but only on Low HP Targets. Hello super strong Ekko and anybody with BotRK.)

I like this champion. He has a lot to chew on, and if anything you've peaked my interest with him and I would actually like to see this implemented in the game in some way. Keep on going!

I feel like I'm getting better with my champ design just a bit, then I learn something new. I did think about the level of counterplay possible, and came to the result of having a no poke and a short effective radius should provide balance. I did want to make this "simple" because of duality of his kit might make this more complex than I desired. But...

I would at least make it something he has to pop to reduce the stats, aside from the MR Shred. (With the upcoming changes to abyssal scepter, he is going to be really strong with base % MR shred on top of that, but he will have to get close.)

Yes. Interaction will provide both counterplay and maybe add overall fairness. Expect some changes soon.

Yup, Vayne would be too OP with him. Hmm. Another factor I need to put into design consideration more thoroughly. Expect changes soon to that too.

Yup. In fact I wanted him to have multiple combos and fits with him in a various team comps with this one spell. I believe it goes with aoe, and stun/lockdown comps. Ekko really would pair particularly well with Quintus. As for BotRK, I could either make it's width narrower, or lower the hp tick percentage. Although i thought about a lower percentage, I felt it might lose any impact with a lowered percentage. I would actually like to hear your suggestion on this, if you wish.

I like this champion. He has a lot to chew on, and if anything you've peaked my interest with him and I would actually like to see this implemented in the game in some way. Keep on going!

Glad I did. I feel like champion design for me is starting to click, but I do need feedback like yours to keep getting better. I'm always trying to balance playability with a overload and overcool kit. Lol. Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.

My absolute dream would to get a concept of mine onto The Rift. I'll keep working at it.

What I would do about his offensive E

  • Make it slow without them being below a certain percentage of HP.
  • Remove the HP% Tick damage, and make it so that on daage you get a % of the opponents life on an internal timer as long as they stand in the field.
  • This rewards you for capitalizing on a good wall slam, and also gives you some utility in bot lane when your ADC wants to poke you can make their damage do a LIIITTLE more if they're in the field.
  • He would certainly be good with BoTRK but I don't think with the internal cooldown timer of the HP% Proc on E that he would be overpowered. Besdies, WHAT SUPPORT IS RECOMMENDED TO BUILD BOTRK!? THat's great!
CircusT4ffy1 votes

Also, you could make him into a transformation champion A La Elise Jayce or even Gnar

showcase252 votes

I was thinking about that. But since this concept is about a mental, and not physical struggle, a transformation kit would not fit him thematically.

But a few tweaks to his lore could make it fit. I just like the little niche he does fit in now; somewhere between a stand alone stance like Aatrox and full transformation like Elise based on a internal mental battle.

I feel like superseding your original lore would be a bad idea. However I do feel the shifts from protective to offensive would've been better explained as I didn't catch how they were used at all! My reading sucks, but I love the toggleable abilities! Scrap the transformation idea!

It would be really cool if based on the path he chooses with his ultimate, his armor changes! I would love that. Good luck!

I'll get a little more descriptive in the ability section, as well as formatting, to reinforce the toggleable-stance to aviailble-ability concept I'm looking for.

It would be really cool if based on the path he chooses with his ultimate, his armor changes! I would love that. Good luck!

I have the Armor / Cross Sword glowing for each stance change, but It is the same color. I'm thinking now different colors: redish and grey on the Cross Sword for smite the weak and grey and white for Defend the Frail

When he cast his ultimate, these colors will be expanded to the radius of the spell. It should be smoke like in its particle effect from what I see in my head.

Eat upvotes, you conceptual artist, you.

Let me preface by saying I love the character's theme. Simple, but elegant; and the picture brings the whole thing together. I appreciate a good theme. :P

The critique:

Smite the Weak has the potential to be far too easy for Quintus to use and far too easy for the enemy to overlook. Switching from defense to offense on the fly is cool; but being able to toggle every 5 seconds? Potentially overbearing.

Maybe you could treat it like Taric's armour shatter? Quintus could switch from defense to offense, maintain a "Smite the Weak!" aura for, say, 6-8 seconds, then revert to a neutral state. After another 6 or so seconds, he would regain the "Defend the Frail" aura. The conceptual excuse would be those moments of ideological indecisiveness you mention in his lore. Y'know, a moment of:

"Is this the right path?"

I was patching this skill while you posted this comment, and it was passed along to me that it was unfair as it stood. It now contants some interactivity, as well as enforcing cooldown management by having it On Spell and slightly raising the static cooldown time.

I have to cough borrow cough that quote. It is too good for this concept.

As for the 'neutral state', I wanted Quintus to quickly switch from one side to the other. He understands both sides and will live by one at the moment, but has not choose which philosophy to live his whole life by. That is the cause of his great mental anguish.

Borrow it, feel absolutely free. I do not own various strings of words formed structured sentences, no matter how much I'd like to.

It wouldn't be me, however, if I didn't also respectfully request a glance at my own Champion Concept in exchange. I am, after all, an extortionist at heart (elderly widows beware!)

I like the changes; and can imagine the warm feeling I'd get whilst defending my very-nearly-dead ADC from an encroaching jungler by dropping Safe Passage, shifting stance, then hurling into the jungler via Clash With Evil and giving the opportunity for the carry to lifesteal their way through the subsequent skirmish that followed.

Blisssss.

This is a very, VERY good concept. While i will admit his looks are a bit to similar to leona, its a very cool concept, and i like the fact he can be both defensive and agressive, and you will need to time your Defend the frail and Smite the weak perfectly in teamfights etc and its a very skill requiring champ that is a interesting hybrid, that if released, would bea massive LCS champion due to his insane utility. One question tho, is the Q inspired from poppys charge which does the same thing?

This was the point I was trying to create. Between his kit and lore, I think it worked out well.

One question tho, is the Q inspired from poppys charge which does the same thing?

You got me. Yes, it was. In fact, the charge-q combo was the inspiration. I wanted to show some great aggression.
